  1. One of my cousins runs a garage in Cape Town in South Africa, Cape fuel injection services it's called, he had a 3.0 GTV6, thats where I got the idea to convert a 2.5 with the 75 engine, or possible the 2.0 Turbo V6 from a 164! Sadly he sold the 3.0 and got a Fiat Uno Turbo before I ever went over and saw the GTV, mind, the Uno was stupid fast as he tuned it, alot. A V6 Junior would be spot on!
  2. I buy new because I know the history of my car, I know it's been serviced, and I know if it breaks it'll be fixed for free. I also get added protection by buying on finance, and the option of giving it back after 50% of the payments. I wouldn't buy second hand as I wouldn't want to buy a car that has been thrashed like mine has and then get the bills! ( and no, you wouldn't know mine had been thrashed until something broke on it, full history, immaculate condition etc). Having said that, I'd definately consider a nearly new car, few months old, low mileage.
  3. Unfortunately you can gaurantee they will go silly with the prices, it's a reasonably nice looking car, unfortunately my previous experience of Skoda means i'll never touch another one. Looks like a Renault Phaeton from the back!
  4. Nissan cherry or Alfa Arna? Who'd have thought it, Italian reliability meets japanese style. :shakehead: I always wondered if the Nissan Cherry Turbo engine would fit in any Alfas being as the Arna/Cherry were basicaly the same car.
  5. they should be yes, and if they give trouble - stop the benefits. I dont particularly think Camerons proposal will work either though, but something needs to be done.
  6. Cant say I'd noticed anyone commenting in a 'foul mouthed' or 'profane' manner? The fact is, that rather than have 2 guys sitting in a council depot somewhere drinking tea, then coming out when they are called upon in there transit pick up to close the road and sweep up glass, you've got 2 people already on the scene clearing things up. If you discount the whole 'replacing police officers' argument, I dont see how there can be any argument against having regular highway safety patrols to make sure the roads are clear? surely thats what we expect our road tax to be paying for? safe roads? Is it the polices job to remove debris from the motorway, or should they be left to target dangerous drivers/criminals whilst the HATO's maintain the roads? I do a lot of motorway driving, and I've never had any cause for complaint other than occasionaly mistaking them for police and dropping my speed by 20 mph, then realising they aren't police and buggering of again, but then thats hardly there fault is it!
  7. Well unfortunately it is possible to do just that, It's an art form these scumbags have created, failing job interviews isn't difficult, and if you make enough of a nuiscance and are mildly threatening your employment officer will understandably just want to get rid of you, and not be particularly interested in seeing your proof of finding work. The amount of effort some of these to**ers put into staying out of work, you'd think they'd be better of working, alas it just isn't so, and what with un-secured loans being so easy to get, and the penalties for not paying them so pathetic they get to live a very comfy lifestyle.
  8. Well done that man! your prize of, err, A full days gloating awaits you! Love the juniors personally, otherwise for me it'd have to be a GTV6 with 3.0 engine chucked in! Incidentally, Jags used to have inboard rear discs to, even the local jag garage couldn't get there tools into the calipers so they used to send them to us, we never told them there was a hatch in the floor to access them from inside the car!!
  9. According to Mr Clarkson if you believe everything he says. I'm sure they provide a valuable service, they shouldn't be replacing police officers though, rather releasing police from the mundane duties to fight crime. I'd rather they stopped to assist my wife than a rapist stopping and 'helping' her, and I wouldn't particulary fancy picking up a puncture from debris left in the road when I'm travelling at 90mph. Dont understand why everyone jumps on the Clarkson bandwagon? never heard any complaints about them before he mouthed off, it's not like they are traffic wardens or anything, they cant fine anyone!
  10. My first car was a Sud Ti Cloverleaf! it was brill (apart from the brakes, but they got sorted with a 33 outboard disc conversion! Mine had a 1500 Sprint engine in it to, it was out of a Sprint Trofeo (limited edition and rare as rocking horse poo) that had unfortunately rusted itself to death. Mine also had the large valve heads that had been ported and polished etc, pocketed pistons for the big valves, Autodelta cams and a large weber carb I cant remember the size of, Koni shocks & spings too, went like stink and embarrased a lot more expensive machinery! Outboard* 33 disc conversion transformed the car more than anything, a 1.7 16V 33 engine was planned but I ended up getting a company car and sold it before that happened! Also sold My Alfa 75 3.0 V6 a couple months ago, the guy who bought it is half way through a twin turbo conversion!!! I've also owned a Lancia Delta Integrale Evo, and 2 Themas, a Turbo and an 8.32 I love Italian cars, it's in my blood, my dad had an old 'T' reg GTV6 (still know the reg - BAP 47T) when I was a kid, and my best mates dad was an Italian Alfa/Ferrari specialist so I got to play with lots of exotic machinery and drove a few Ferraris to once I was old enough! *pop quiz - anyone know what the theory behind the inboard front disc brakes was??? (without googling).
  11. Thats what ****es me off more than anything, as a cab driver, I'd say that the people with the most disposable income to spend on nights out/alcohol/Sky TV/Plasma TV's etc etc (i.e. those I pick up/take home most from socialising rather than travelling to/from work etc) are those living in council houses claiming benefits. Benefits should at the very most put a very small roof over your head in a tiny house with no luxuries, and give you enough cash to only spend on beans on toast, and even then it should be value beans and toast (not heinz/kingsmill). Quite obviously I'm not suggesting that everyone who lives in a council house or claims benefits is a workshy layabout, but I'd bet 90% of them are physicaly capable of fending for themselves rather than being kept by the rest of us.
  12. Why should you be entitled to get money for doing nothing? Thats the problem with this country, too bloody soft, ditch the welfare society, ditch council housing and make people fend for themselves. lazy f*$*ers. Obviously not including people who are physicaly incapable of fending for themselves, having said that however, I ferry plenty of downsyndrome/disabled people around who are more than happy to work for a living, they just have to find a job that suits them.
  13. On the Superb it's normaly the rear brakes, try releasing the handbrake (on a flat road of course) and trying to recreate the creak.
  14. As I understand it, towing with a rope is illegal on any road, you must have a rigid bar.
  15. Your paying too much then if they have to discount it!
  16. Wasn't it revealed on TV the other week? It's Ben Collins and I definately saw it on tv, thought i'd seen it on the last Top gear but maybe it was another programme?
  17. Conversely, I hope he didn't spend too much on her at christmas!
  18. Indeed, you dont get any no-claims bonus with house insurance, and theres no prizes for loyalty so personally I'd hammer them. Yeah yeah, I've know it might 'push up prices' for everyone else etc etc but frankly I wouldn't care, there is a register of claims but so long as you dont claim too often you'll be fine!
  19. Re tape loaders - "dont jog it - DONT JOG IT" - "Stop vibrating the table, keep still"
  20. I've had 2 sets of Hankook Ventus on the ST and I rate them very well, I wouldn't call them budget at £120 a tyre though (225/18"), the Vredestines are cheaper and IMO much better though. Apparently Ford now fit Hankook as standard (according to my tyre fitter).
  21. Hmm, our monitors run a taxi booking system which involves most of the screen displaying the same image all the time it's turned on, 2 of the screens are on 24/7 and the other 6 are on for a min of 12 hours a day, we have the monitors set on energy saving mode where they switch off after 30 mins of inactivity and dont have any problems with image retention/burn. We currently use LG LCD's but are having a new system installed in Feb.
  22. If you've got a UPVC door look up Bump key on you tube....... ...Scary! anyone know how to secure against this?
  23. As above, had a PS1, still got an original day of release PS2, a PS3 60gb, and 2 PSP's (normal + slim & lite on cracked FW) Got a 42" Sony LCD, and still got an old 32" Flat trinitron CRT relegated to the bedroom still absolutely perfect and amazing picture, Sony VCR still perfect after well over 10 years service. Never had a problem with anything Sony, I think they do deserve there reputation. My PS3 60gb was apparently made in China.
  24. Trouble with that is, most modern tv's will switch to a blue/black screen or even turn off if they aren't receiving a proper signal. I'd go with the turn it off theory personally, leave it unplugged for a couple of days as technically, you cant get phosphor burn (posh name for screen burn) on a TV with no phosphor in the screen as is such with LCD, I dont think I've ever heard of anyone actually succesfully fixing a dead/stuck pixel with those pixel vids either?
  25. That sounds about right! Granny's garden!, oh yes, remember that one! I had a C16, jumped from that to an Amiga completely missing out the C64, think my fave game on the 16 was a motocross one I cant remember the name of! I was the test year that were taught solely how to do arithmetic on a calculator, after us they returned to the old fashioned method but included calculators, as a result, to this day, I still dont know my times tables!
