The reviews of the vRS TDI are a mixed bag. Of particular concern is the torque spike which is even more pronounced than that with the 140bhp version of the engine. It badly affects the driveability of the car by all accounts. The DSG would help iron that out for the driver so you never know. Trouble is that then everyone will ask why the petrol version isnt getting DSG. I doubt VW will allow that as Golf GTI sales would really suffer. As for paddle shift, no way Skoda will ever get that and if they do it will only be because technology has moved on and paddle shift is old hat. Skoda are just too good for VW's liking I think. Long live the underdog.
  2. i doubt it. I read in Autotrader that a although it turned out to be a simple problem, when one guy's Octy DSG packed in on him he was originally given the news that a replacement gearbox was required at a staggering fully fitted charge of
  3. I'm going for Sky BB myself. The wifi side of the router they give you is really **** by all accounts but you can always add a wireless adapter of your own to it. The reason why you have to use their router is because your username and password are pre-programmed into it and you can't find these out from the setup screen like with all other routers. However, i understand there's a hack which gets round it thus allowing you to use your own modem/router. Use of the hack as always is at your own risk of course.
  4. That looks like a lot of hastle to me. Most items of equipment use more than 1 battery and USB ports are generaly too close together to charge 2 of those batteries simultaneously. Waste of time me thinks.
  5. Mine has always said 'no entry' any time i've checked it unless there is a fuel/oil/water warning on the dash in which case it reports that. Maybe 'Status ok' is displayed for a while after a warning is cleared.
  6. 5K as in 5000 rpm! I thought a Furby vRS was a diesel car.
  7. What did you think it would do? Talk dirty to you?
  8. Fair point. Should have done my homework but I doubt Saxo boy can afford to ensure a VTS. More like Saxo man. Isn't the VTS the 120bhp biscuit tin with wheels though? The 2.0TFSI reaches 60 only 0.2 secs faster than that. Ok ok the vRS is officially 0-62 in 7.3 secs but you get what i mean. It's very close.
  9. I agree with most of this except the Saxo boy comment. My 140 TDI when driven correctly is quicker than the official 9.6sec 0-60 suggests. I've timed it in numerous ways and 8.5sec 0-60 is definately closer to the mark. Even at that I was getting more wheelspin at take off than I would have liked. ESP is quick to kick in but not quick enough sometimes. A bit more practice required I think. IMO the acceleration is so good because the 16v engine is very free reving so it gets up into the maximum torque range a lot quicker than the older 8v lumps. I think i'll be booking a test drive of the new TDI vRS all the same just to see what all the fuss is about.
  10. Auto express ran a test between a 170 diesel and a 200bhp TFSI. The petrol car had the edge on acceleration throughout the test (particularly between 50-70mph) which was surprising. The petrol car was more progressive and averaged a reasonable 30mpg. In the test the diesel only managed 35mpg IIRC. Add the fact that the petrol car is cheaper and it's a no brainer imo. I couldn't have held out for the lauch of the 170vRS and went for the 140 but to be honest i'm glad as all the reports say that 'in gear' there's very little between the 140 & 170. From a driveability point of view the 140 does better too because although it's peaky, the 170 is apparently a lot worse. That means you need to concentrate more to get the best out of it and it's harder to keep fuel economy up. That being said the 170 uses quieter injectors and if i'm honest I wouldn't say no to one.
  11. I'd hazard a guess and say no to all of that although i'm sure it probably displays the time ok.
  12. Yes to your first question and No to the 2nd.
  13. Lots of paperwork and stamping drawings i'd imagine.
  14. Effectively yes but if there is a bad connection and the connection to the head unit is allowed to 'float' ie left unconnected , it may be affected by sporatic interference causing it mute anyway.
  15. A decent inverter is the way to go but laptops are still pretty power hungry so i'd say 150w is minimum. Cheap inverters don't provide a clean sine wave output and your psu wouldn't like it one bit. Most laptop adapters have a regulated, stablised 18v or 19v output. Theres no easy way of getting that in your car so best keep use the adapter and inverter.
  16. I've heard both now and am still really disspointed although things are a lot better when using my mp3 player. If i could find an adapter for my multifunction steering wheel i'd bin the Stream and replace it with an aftermarket unit. Question: I thought the Audience amp was identical to the Stream unit and built into the head unit (if not part of the 12 speaker upgrade which uses a separate amp under the drivers seat). Did they put an amp under your seat as part of the installation? If not then its probably more likely that the new stream/audience head units generally sound better than the old ones as opposed to Audience hu's sounding better than Stream h/u's.
  17. no probs here mate. the parrot cant actively pair to more than 1 phone at a time. It picks up the first phone it can find from the paired phone list in the menu so theres no chance its another phone causing it to mute. I'd say its a faulty kit. Sorry. Why not try with another identical phone.
  18. I was 29 & swmbo was 33. Then had our 2nd 5 months ago at 31.
  19. Can't just find the part No. for the green connector atm but the flyleads come pre-crimped. You insert then into the plug housing and slide on the restraining block supplied to stop them fly coming out.
  20. My Panasonic DECT Phone has a SMS feature that i haven't bothered with up until now but mobile was dead the other day so gave it a go. Worked a treat with my home no. displaying as the source of the message. I took 2 or 3 mins to be received but replies come through in a matter of seconds accompanied by a short beep. My question is, how do they do that? The phone doesn't seem to dial any number to a sort of dialup service before sending or receiving txt messages.
  21. I have XP Pro with all service packs etc and I can't write to a DVD through windows directly. I can write to a CD-ROM no probs though.
  22. I think having a license will be irrelevant for software now unsupported my microsoft but if u dont get sorted i should have a licensed copy floating about that u can have FOC of course. Let me know
