  1. thanks. got any photos?....I'm interesetd in what that combo looks like, I was thiking the alcantra and black finish would be generally too dark.....
  2. I Think if I was going for the sport look and drive I'd go with the VRS....which I don;t think I am!
  3. Well, it says it all in the title really... I am in the fortunate position to have just qualified for our company car scheme which means I get a car on a fully maintained 3 year lease and I have to pay a contribution calculated based on my marginal tax rate, emmissions and various other bits and bobs Anyway I could go for an 2.0L TDI L&K Octy at 160 quid a month or an elegance with the same engine which would cost me a measly 94 a month When I thought about it I figured that I would add some extras to the elegance, leather, light assistance, black magic finish so this bumps up the cost to £146 a month Then a spotted the columbus satnav so that's another £40 a month... So L&K for £200 or elegance with extras for £186? I would be interested to hear opinions from those who have gone for either of these options and then with hindsight thought they should have gone th eother way Also - full leather versus alcantra, and what paint finish combo? would be interested in seeing various pictures if any of you have them as L&K or leather in an octy is not something I've been able to find at local dealers so far thanks in advance!
  4. No I don't....they seem to be in business to make money purely based on volume of sales and work rather than thinking about quality and customer satisfaction.....they don;t really care about an individual customer becasue another new "mug" will walk through the door a few minutes later ....as soon as my warranty expired, I decided to go to a local mechanic and not use the dealer any more. his labour charges are much better for starters and becasue he is a much smaller business he can afford to spend a bit more time on customer care and satisfaction. having said that I'm about to get a company car and then I won;t have a choice....it will be back to main dealers.... :(
  5. just had a brand new ambiente estate with 90 miles on the clock as a hire car and it also had this noise - to me its sounded like it came from the dash area. As it was not my car I wasn't overly concerned!....but I wondered also if it was the fuel pump......you sometimes here it on my mk1 octavia but it is much much quieter
  6. ok, so I am a driver and know little about engines or how my car works in any way!...just the basic stuff to keep it maintained.... ....my light warning buzzer stopped working on my 2002 Ambiente. garage thought it was a simple job to do under warranty. they got it working only to then find various other electrical components go on the fritz including airbags.....basically the problem was relating to some electrical control unit behind the dash. I'm sure others may be able to tell me exaclty what this part was....but it was about £400 to replace! the garage and skoda had a big argument about who should pay for it as it was just out of skoda warranty but still in the garage's warranty, but at least I didn't have to pay for it! anyway, I hope this isn't your problem!
  7. I'm sure loads of people ask this qusiotn, so sorry for being one of the multitude! I am hoping to privately sell my 2002/52 plate octavia 1.9TDI Ambiente (Silver). It is in top notch condition (if you forget the inner door release is knackered which I'll get fixed before selling!)...I've done just under 57k miles, 2 owners, full service history, no mods at all. I checked on parkers and in good condition, 40k miles it reckons £4300... but what difference would metallic paint and extra miles make? I'm not really sure? This will be the first time I've sold privately and its to someone I know and I want to offer it to them for a fair price! so any sensible suggestions would be apprecaited thanks in advance m
  8. thanks for the tip - need to get the car first then I'll probably give local dealer a call first, otherwise a trip to preston it shall be! welshbigman, do you mind giving me an indication of what they charged you...PM please if againt forum rules to post! thanks
  9. hmm...well that's more DIY wiring and stuff than I've ever done on my cars, not sure how comfortable I'd feel about doing all that! I assuem a skoda dealer wouldn't fit it if you got hold of the bt kit? does anyone know any garages that would? I know it all integrates nicely, but it almost seems simpler to get a parrot!
  10. hi all not exaclty new around here....I'm a bit of a "lurker"! sorry if I'm resurrecting an old thread, but this seemed the right place for the question currently have an "old" 52 plate octavia and hopefully will be getting a new one as a company car soon (hopefully L&K!) I can see the new columbus offered as an option on both the uk skoda site and my company car website BUT I can't see any options anywhere about a bluetooth phone kit to go with it. For me this is majorly important, as we have very strict company rules about using the mobile phone with approved bt devices in the car (parrot being the main one). ...so can someone advise if a bt phone device as an expansion to the oem columbus is available. if so where would I get one? how much for? who would fit it? (or is it easy DIY?) thanks in advance mf
  11. hmmm....seems a lot of hassle to me, I don't particularly want to start drilling holes in anything, I'd rather leave everything as original if at all possible. I suppose you could run the leads round the centre section of the dash but I'm not sure what you'd do wih the LEDs and switch?....
  12. for the harness what goes where? look son the pic that there is an earth cable - why's that necessary adn where did you attach it?

  14. my 52 plate Octavia has a symphony HU, cassette deck with 6 CD changer in the boot I've seen various things that may or may not enable me to add an additional auxiliary input. Does anyone have any experience of doing this? Please note I'm a car stereo novice when it comes to fitting them! I did do a search but I don't think what I read really helped me (yes I really am a novice!) What I've gathered so far is that any aux input would have to share the cd changer input connections I've seen two possible solutions 1)Auxiliary input converter ..looks like you can by audi and vw versions, but I cannot see any skoda specific ones and additionally they do not seem to indicate that the cd changer and auxillary input can be connected at the same time 2) http://www.k9spud.com/vwcdpic/ - but I can't see anywhere to buy this any more! there seem to be different Symphony HUs around, but the manual I have is rubbish. No tech stuff in it at all and nothing about connections on the rear of he unit NB: I did try a cassette adapter for a while which was OK until the cassette player decided to twist round the cable going into the cassette interface! For a mo thought I totally knackered the cassette deck, but having had to snap the cable to get it out, it seems to be OK. Any help greatly appreciated!
  15. I probably posted my question to the wrong place....will move it there...
