  1. Seems an interesting charging system on these stop start cars. With the monitor i can tell when the car is in energy recouperation mode. Apparently keeps the battery charged at 80% most of the time. With vcds i was able to find where it shows how many start/stop the starter has gone through in it’s 163,000 miles. A whopping 42,000 ish. AGM’s are tough batteries.
  2. The car gets long drives and rarely has any short journeys so i doubt my battery would need periodic separate charging. My father recently replaced the original battery on his car 14.5 years. That had a life of mostly short runs and never had a charger connected to it. Yeah i use a battery monitor. I can tell by the Open circuit voltage comparisons when the car is in sleep mode with very minimal load on the battery.
  3. i can’t say for sure if it’s reliable. Lower temps does seem to rise it a bit in vcds. But it’s been rising gradually over the last few years. My battery is in the boot. To get the most accurate reading with a tester i leave the boot open and i then lock the car and wait 20 ish minutes for everything to shut down.( boot light turns off)
  4. Did a conductance test on my original 5 years and 10 month old 680A Varta AGM battery. The result is it’s now down to 350A. SOH is 26%. “Replace” The car gets well driven and has clocked 160,000 miles in that time. Amazingly it still starts the diesel engine after a -5 degree night, abeit sounding a little sluggish but it has sounded like that for the last couple of years. However a few symptoms. The start stop works less in the lower temps. The car will cut out at the lights but the engine will re start after about 15 secs with “ power consumption too high” message. Anything above 5 degrees it works flawlessly. If i go into VCDS toolbox i can get the reason why the car restarted after 15 secs “ SOC low” despite driving 40 miles of charging. Other things, errors flash on the dash briefly on a cold morning start. I also get data bus and insufficient voltage codes in VCDS. Once temps are over 6 or 7 degrees start stop works flawlessly and no error codes. According to vcds my battery resistance reads between 7-8 m ohms depending on temperature. I believe a good AGM battery should be 3-4 m ohms. Sorry for the boring post lol
  5. I just replaced the flywheel on my Passat 240bhp ( running 290bhp remapped since new) it lasted 160,000 miles. 80k seems a bit low.
  6. Clutch pack and flywheel.
  7. It’s funny how you get used to a car over the miles. Just got the car back and the difference is quite noticeable. Gear changes way smoother etc even the starter is quieter.
  8. Do you do a lot of motorway driving? That’s 90k more than i have done. Hmmm thinking it’s a bit low now considering i have the same unit ( apart from different diesel vs petrol ratios) as the RS3 and TTRS. Maybe the car being 4wd could be harder on the clutches.
  9. All 2.0 BiTDi 240 passats are fitted with the DQ500 gearbox. The VW dealer claimed they needed replacing through diagnostic .
  10. I would have thought the 280’s came with it? Ok in general what mileage are the clutches lasting on average over the DSG range of models?
  11. Mostly town and country road driving. Rarely any city driving. No real abuse. Car is remapped to 290bhp since new. I was having no symptoms only a slightly rattling flywheel. I think the diagnostics revealed they were near the end of the adjustment travel. You think 160k is about right?
  12. I have the Superb’s sister the Passat. It has 160,000 miles on the clock. The DSG ( DQ500) clutches are worn. What mileage are people getting out of theirs on here? Is 160k a reasonable mileage?
  13. I have a 2017 2.0 BiTDI 240 Passat. I have done 150k. My filler cap dances too just like in the video but my car doesn’t use a drop of oil between services. I suspect it’s normal for some of these engines.
  14. Wow. My 2017 2.0 TDI 240bhp Passat is on 144,000 miles and no issues yet, maybe a weakening battery, Have you replaced anything over them miles?
  15. My 2017 Passat 240bhp bitdi does this. Usually after 15k- 20k it goes below the min mark. It has done it since new. I now have 135k and it has never gotten worse. I was talking to a guy who owns a motor factors and he claims it’s common with modern cars. I wonder if the regens are causing it. The engines run quite hot during them.
  16. I have a similar issue on my 2017 Passat but might not be related to your fault though. Low cranking voltage due to an aging battery is causing my issue. Some mornings i notice the heated steering is on after i start the car. Maybe your battery low from short runs or possibly faulty battery? It actually started to happen when my car was 2 years old. But i still have the original battery because it starts ok but i sometimes get a low cranking voltage. The problem is the batteries are too small for these cars and not to mention they are only kept at 80% charge .
  17. This morning ( car hasn’t been touched since 11pm last night) is reading 12.66v ( outside temp 13 degrees). Doors locked in sleep mode. My Bluetooth monitor often records low cranking voltage. . Sometimes drops below 9v first start of the morning. The lowest i have seen is 7.20v. It made the starter actually pause before starting and putting up a start stop error on the dash. It was approx -1 degrees at the time. I had just driven the car 10 miles and stopped briefly at a shop. However my fans were running due to a regen but it was no longer than a few mins. My battery was charging fully for the 10 miles. My Bluetooth monitor records graphs. My battery just hates the cold. You could try lifting the bonnet and then lock the car. Wait 20 mins and take a reading from the battery. It will give a fairly accurate open circuit reading. Sometimes my starter will sound like it hesitates for a split second when first activated in the morningbut then can ramp up normally.
  18. Just for comparison, i have a passat with a Varta AGM battery 680A EN rating. 4 years and 4 months. i have a bluetooth battery monitor fitted and i can check battery voltage via my phone. When the car goes to sleep i usually get a resting voltage between 12.5 - 12.6v. Mostly around the 12.55-12.6. i have a Topdon conductance tester. The results vary with temperature. With the warmer days i get a reading of 520 A ( rated 680A) and 60% SOH and a message “ good battery”. During last winter with cooler temps i’d get a reading of 430 ish A with a SOH 40-45% and a message “ replace battery” i find the battery is an unusual beast. When temps are low say 0 degrees it can sound sluggish starting the car with a few errors like “ start stop error” on the dash with a fault code “ insufficient voltage” type code. Also the start stop might not work intermittently ( but mostly works)with the message “ power consumption high”. However when temps are above 3 degrees battery works flawlessly. Start stop works all the time and i could leave lights on for ages it will still start, weird battery!
  19. The battery in my 4 year old Passat sometimes complains when temps are below 5 degrees, funnily enough over 5 degrees it works quite well and the start stop works flawlessly. However when it's freezing sometimes the starter sounds like it struggles and when that happens it puts the error message " start stop : error". It clears if i restart the car though. When the start stop error appears ( when temps are low) i did a vcds scan. One of the errors is the "databus "one but i also get a " function restricted due to insufficient voltage". In my case it's a weakening battery.
  20. I have a battery monitor on my car. When the voltage dips to 8.5v or lower on initial crank the heated steering wheel comes on automatically during the crank. Anything above 8.5v it doesn’t. So definitely a battery/voltage issue in my case anyway. Varta AGM battery 4 years and 114k miles. A bit disappointing. My fathers 14 year old car still on original battery! Still starts even if left sitting for a week!
  21. It could be a low cranking voltage glitch, possible weakening battery. I have a similiar issue where my heated steering wheel comes on and it’s due to my weakening battery.
  22. Not necessarily but i’m sure for most part that is the case. My battery is now at 430-450 EN Amps 39%-44% SOH depending on temperature. The battery is rated at 680 EN. Sometimes i see “Replace” and other times i see “ Good Battery” I have a battery monitor and i get a lot of low cranking voltage warnings even if the engine is hot. First start of the day i see it drop to 8.5v, below 0 degrees i have seen it drop to 7.5 v. One cold morning about -1degrees i drove a quarter mile to a fuel station. When i started the car the starter sounded painfully slow and activated a start stop error message. I had another incident where the starter bogged down ( voltage dropped to 7.28v)after i was in a shop for 5 mins. The fans were running due to an interruption of the regen process. However the start stop system works very well. The caveat is if the outside temp is below 3 degrees i sometimes get an episode of “ power consumption is high” but the start stop system works flawlessly despite weak battery. One thing i have noticed ( maybe it’s normal) when the outside temp drops to 5 degrees and lower the energy recouperation stops working. The alternator charges the battery constantly until the temperature goes back up to 6/7 degrees. I gather that’s normal?
  23. I would say you probably have a faulty battery. How old is it? My partners brother thar owns a 10 year old Passat and only does shortish runs and has just replaced the original start stop AGM battery. The smart charging isn’t as problematic as some people think.
  24. My 4 year old start/stop AGM battery is down to 40-44% health already.
