  1. Plenty around Keswick; I personally know 5 owners ! The higher seating position and compact design makes them ideal for the mature 2 person household in the Lakes.
  2. I have the Gobi Sand leather and find it makes for a nice light and spacious feeling inside. Maybe my age and need for good light levels is a factor , but I wouldnt go back to a dark interior.
  3. Agree, couldnt remove my alloys and neither could the local tyre fitter, its the socket which gets damaged too easily ( used 3 times), - had a 100mile round trip to my local Skoda dealer who removed the locking wheel nuts and replaced them with non-locking versions apparently a common job ! Glad I found out the problem when I did the risk of having a non-repairable puncture and the wheel not being removeable is too high for me.
  4. I keep a windup torch in the boot - never have to worry about batteries and recharging.
  5. I converted my trailer - agree less adaptors the better - of course with a trailer there aren't as many connections as with a caravan.
  6. Looks a bit like Fort William ?
  7. I hate going anywhere without a map and like to have an idea of the route even when using SatNav. But SatNav is indispensible when navigating side streets to and from your destination in a town/city and for warning you of a turning coming up on unlit roads at night.
  8. I moved from a 6speed 115bhp PD engined Golf IV to the Greenline. The engine does feel a lot less gutsy but seems happy below 1500rpm which the Golf wasnt. The main characteristic I miss is the very poor engine braking on the 105hp Yeti especially on hills, but maybe this is a feature of all the more modern diesel engines ? Anyway I am used to the engine now and happy with it for my style of driving. Only option I couldnt have and wanted was the heated windscreen.
  9. Supplementary question on this issue: Is the route finding software or algorithms part of the Maps of part of the Firmware ? If firmware anyone noticed any improvement since 3984 ? I find the routes chosen often perverse and seemed influenced by the very slow average speed it assigns to non-motorways sections, the estimated journey times on cross country routes are usually 30% too high and drops drastically during the journey.
  10. So £25 as against £190 ! Is there a catch ? What's the chance of the update bricking the Columbus ? Very tempted - wonder whether the postcode file gets updated/corrected with updates ? Have others found postcodes missing from the database ?

Better still is a proper dry bag - see outdoor shops . I like the exped ones the xxs 1litre size will do you . There is also an ultra light version but not as robust. They are however much more expensive than freezer bags !
  12. I get about 51mpg generally around the Lake District rising to 60 mpg on long journeys especially if limited to 60mph. Very dependant on journey, wind direction and average speed.
  13. Obviously a really well designed site for navigation and visibility
  14. +1 Been putting off changing them until I could do it in good daylight and when dry, but in the end took under 5mins for all 3 bosch blades. Didnt think the front ones mated up as neatly to the bezel on the socket as the originals though.
  15. Skoda stopped providing disks in 2011 . I raised the issue when I took delivery of my January 2012 build Yeti.
  16. They are not easy to see or feel, took me ages to identify even with a torch and a cloth in the comfort of my carport. Wouldnt rate my chances at the side of a road. Varifocals upside down dont help either.

    Heated screen

I believe a larger alternator is required which , like a spare wheel, would push the CO2 over the magic 119 figure and up a tax band

    Heated screen

I've had heated windscreens before- fantastic - and a good safety option. Pity it wasnt available on the Greenline model I now have.
  19. I have the Columbus and it is neat and does provide other functions besides satnav . But I am finding the SatNav routing decisions weird and there is no way of choosing alternative routes. Its okay for the urban/town bits but x-country I really miss my TomTom.
  20. 2 years ago the Greenline was way ahead of the pack in the CO2 figures. Now its been well overtaken, the usual leapfrog scenario . The UK's tax bands do restrict what equipment is offered on each model so as to just fit the car into a lower band.
  21. Anyway local tyre place who normally swap my winter tyres over couldnt get the locking nuts off. So off on a 90mile round trip tomorrow to the Skoda dealer to get them replaced with plain bolts - apparently a common job for them. Rather annoying but far better to find out now than at that the side of a road miles from nowhere. Strongly urge anyone with these locking nuts to think seriously of replacing them.
  22. Thanks never thought of looking there ! Are the wheel bolts the same on all Skodas ? Same length etc.
  23. Anyone know where I can quickly get, mail order ,genuine replacement non-locking wheel bolts and covers so I can dump the locking ones. Just tried to change to my winter tyres myself and the wheel bolts are very tight cannot get enough pressure inwards to keep the locking wheel nut adaptor in place. So will have to do as usual and get the tyre specialist to swap the, Having gone to the trouble of getting a spare wheel would have been really annoyed if I couldnt have removed the wheel bolts myself..
  24. A couple of years ago when choosing a car I found that the Yeti was one of the few offering Xenons as an option on most of the range. Most manufacturers , inc Audi and VW, only offered it on the high powered versions. Very happy with the Xenons which came with the Elegance model.
