New KESSY key with motion sensor
Hi Great Yeti, Yes I'd seen those pages, but hadn't noticed the change to the Scala KESSY key. I wonder if that will be carried over to the other models too? There's no mention of it doing so. I've already flagged to my sales guy that I want 360 Vision added (and had asked about it at the time of my order, complaining that it was on the Kodiaq and Ateca but not the Karoq) - now we're just waiting for Skoda UK to publish the price for it. I've seen the updated Skoda France pricelist with it in, so am expecting it to add around £500 to my order. Chris

New KESSY key with motion sensor
That's an interesting change, and sounds worthwhile. If they carry on shortening the 'on' period we'll have to jump up and down as we approach our car soon Chris PS: I do wish Skoda would publish all the MY21 changes soon, this constant trickle of news is really annoying! I've had no details about the build date for my Karoq yet, so am very hopeful I'll be getting a MY21 car too, and can add the 360 Vision Area View to it

New KESSY key with motion sensor
Oh I quite agree Phil, Thatcham now require it to give a car a decent security rating, but I was just wondering if a longer battery life would be an added bonus Chris

New KESSY key with motion sensor
As I understand it, the pre-MY20 Kessy keys were transmitting a weak radio signal at all times - and hence the frequent complaints about the batteries only lasting a year even in a spare unused key. Now presumably the motion detector Kessy keys turn off the radio signal after not being moved for 15 minutes - say when the key is hung up overnight, or left in a handbag at work - but not when it is in your pocket as you walk around. So are people seeing a longer battery life in the new keys??

New Karoq - question on some issues
Well it's your call whether you're happy to have the car like this, but I'd say it's definitely poor quality, and if the dealer claims 'they're all like that' make him show other new cars in the showroom that are just as bad. Ask him to realign the boot and correct the paint problems and rubber seal around the light fitting. After that, your rights are governed by your consumer rights in Cyprus. I think I'm right in saying you are part of the EU, so do you have protection in that goods have to be of merchantable quality? Do you have the right to reject it for being unsatisfactory? Do you have any kind of free legal advice available to you equivalent to the British Citizens Advice Bureau, or our Trading Standards advisers? I'd be worried about water leaks shorting out wires or getting into the boot at the very least if it were my car! Chris

New Karoq - question on some issues
So if loukitsas is Bulgarian (?) quoting UK consumer rights to him isn't going to be much help!

New Karoq - question on some issues
I think we ned to know where loukitsas lives and bought his car before rushing to give legal or consumer advice. Could you add this information to your profile please loukitsas to make any advice we give you more relevant to your situation?

Fuel tank capacity 2.0 TDI 4x4 DSG
This has been debated and isn't explicitly stated, but most posters seem to believe the 'reserve' is within the stated fuel tank size, and presumably says when the red low fuel warning light comes on. Chris

Fuel tank capacity 2.0 TDI 4x4 DSG
According to the November 2019 owner's manual, the fuel capacity for vehicles with front wheel drive is about 50 litres, and for vehicles with four-wheel drive about 55 litres, with about 6 litres as reserve. Chris

Campaign 60E3
I'm with pat997 on this, I've had opening sunroofs in all my cars since the 1980s and can only recall one having any problems leaking - from memory probably a Golf Mk 4 which I owned from new for around 7 years. None of the others, (from Citroen Visa, several Citroen BXs, Citroen Xantia, Skoda Octavia, Golf Plus and now Golf SV) have leaked despite always parking on my drive. The nearest trees are on the other side of the road, so although I can find leaves and seeds on the car, it doesn't seem that much muck gets in to block up the drain pipes. Despite air-con now making sunroofs redundant now from the point of view of cooling the car down in summer, I still like the extra light coming into the car (especially as my new Karoq will be having a very black interior!) And the ability to help out the air-con by tilting the roof up when you first get into a hot car is also very useful! Chris

Annoying beep every 30 seconds
Sorry Lana, that beep doesn't sound like anything I've heard before in a VW or Skoda! I suppose it's not very easy to track down where it's coming from??

Annoying beep every 30 seconds
Sorry, I've run out of ideas... I'll leave it for other Kodiaq owners to have a think 😞 Chris

Annoying beep every 30 seconds
1) Is a door or the hatch not fully closed? 2) Is there something heavy on a seat and it thinks someone's sitting there without having fastened a seatbelt? 3) Any other warning lights??

pano roof seals
There's always going to be a leak round the edge of the moving sunroof pane, but there's a drain pipe in each corner to take the water away. As long as they're not blocked by muck you should be OK.

Model Year 21 Changes
Also just announced on the Skoda UK Media Twitter feed, and CarScoops: Skoda’s latest infotainment tech is making its way into the Superb, Karoq and Kodiaq for the start of the 2021 model year. The systems are based on the VW Group’s third-generation infotainment matrix and allow for more custom vehicle settings than ever before. Novelties include the Laura digital voice assistant, Internet radio and wireless SmartLink tech, online personalization and more. You also get modern USB-C sockets instead of older USB-A ports, while a USB-C slot above the rear-view mirror can be had as an optional extra. Thanks to a built-in SIM card, all Skoda infotainment systems (aside from the entry-level 6.5-inch touchscreen one) are to feature a permanent Internet connection. The Laura digital assistant meanwhile can understand as many as 15 languages and can process “fluently spoken sentences in Czech, English, German, French, Italian and Spanish.” Apps include news and weather reports, while customers that opt for the top of the range Columbus navigation will get a 9.2-inch screen instead of an 8-inch one. Furthermore, your destination can now be transferred directly from the Skoda Connect app to the sat-nav system. With the online personalization option, you can transfer your Skoda Connect account settings to different Skoda models, so buying a new car doesn’t have to mean starting back over with setting everything up. A maximum of 14 owner profiles and one guest profile can be had per each car – so you can have your Virtual Cockpit layout, assistance systems, climate control and light settings just the way you want. As for the Scala and the Kamiq, they’ll be getting expanded infotainment features too, plus the optional USB-C port built into the roof above the rear-view mirror.

skoda connect - worth it?
I rejected the option of paying £400 for Skoda Connect for my new Karoq Sportline, both because I wasn't sure that it was worth it, but also because the Amendsen infotainment system didn't have a Sim card slot so it would have to be sticking out dangerously from the USB socket on the Stick thingy. But I've now just read at https://www.carscoops.com/2020/06/skoda-superb-karoq-and-kodiaq-getting-new-infotainment-tech/ (and also on Skoda UK's Media Tweet feed) that : "Skoda’s latest infotainment tech is making its way into the Superb, Karoq and Kodiaq for the start of the 2021 model year. The systems are based on the VW Group’s third-generation infotainment matrix and allow for more custom vehicle settings than ever before. So this seems to be another update for the MY21 cars, and may be adding in what used to be a £400 option?

KAROQ SPEED CAMERA WARNING
Good point to make. I always back up my old files first too. But as my Golf is about to get replaced, and long trips are still unwise I'm not bothering updating my map files this year Vhris
-
KAROQ SPEED CAMERA WARNING
I stand corrected then I've previously tried to replace my VW-supplied SD card with a larger card to cope with increasing size of the maps over the years (but just a standard SD card not supplied by VW) and found the map files on the new larger card weren't recognised because the card didn't have the hidden secure data on it. I'd not tried to get other VW-supplied cards.
-
KAROQ SPEED CAMERA WARNING
Are the SD cards not keyed with a hidden data file to their own hardware? I've never been able to copy map data to a new SD card and have it recognised by my satnav system. I'd think you'd need to copy the data from the old card to the new card before it will work??

2020 DSG L & K 190PS Drive Mode Default
Bummer 😞 Chris

2020 DSG L & K 190PS Drive Mode Default
Although some have suggested that if you have personalised keys, it remembers the mode chosen by each one?? I'd be grateful for any comments on this thought, as I've added the option to my Karoq (for all of £35, and you get a third key as well) in the hope that it over-rides the 'default to normal' setting. Chris

Dipped beam instead of LEDs strip
Which is what I'd expect from the auto-headlight settings on my Golf. It's a safety feature (that you can turn off if you really wish by moving the light switch from the Auto setting.) Chris

Area View 360º Camera
Well what can I say?? Skoda have listened and are introducing Area View as an option for model year 21!! (See https://www.skoda-storyboard.com/en/press-releases/countless-new-features-introduced-to-skoda-portfolio-for-2021-model-year/ ) I just hope that Skoda UK don't block it, and that I can add it to the new Karoq I've ordered! I've not had confirmation yet that the factory have accepted my order or allocated a build date, so I'm expecting it to be a MY21 car, but still need my dealer to change my order and change the agreed price. Watch this space!!
