  1. The system on my B-Xenon Golf always seems to work perfectly, dipping the lights before any approaching driver flashes me, and also when coming up behind other drivers. I understand your point about lorry drivers being higher up and being bothered by my lights, but in practice have never noticed a problem. If there IS a problem it's very easy to take control. Time will tell how well my new Karoq's lights will match them!
  2. it's VAG-wide, not just Skoda 😞

@Expatman It might be worth your while having a look at a VW Golf SV. It's got the higher seat position, and is just a bit smaller than a Karoq. As its just stopped production, you can only get stock cars, but they should come with a good discount. (I've been very happy with mine, but am not buying another as I can't buy a factory spec car with the options I want.)

Sorry, typo in my previous post. As you say the heated steering wheel has been added as standard for MY21, whereas I had it as an option for my MY20 order. However the savings are partially swallowed by a big increase in the option price for the heated windscreen (makes me wonder if it'll be a film type rather than wire type??)

I'm buying not leasing, and got an equivalent discount on the price of my new car and a reasonable P/X on my Golf. He also promised to give me more for my Golf if it's P/X valuation has risen when my new car arrives. (I'll believe that when I see it, but at least with lockdown, my mileage has been a lot lower than I'd anticipated this year So my cost to change should be locked in, apart from perhaps a haggle over the changed options, and heated steering wheel now being standard for a MY21 car while I had added it as an option.

My dealer wrote the handover date of the 18th of September on my order form, way back in June, and I've been promised regular updates but had nothing from him. However the Skoda UK email confirming my order says they will keep me up to date with the progress of my car and they'll send me further emails. My present status is 'Order Confirmed' with future mileposts being 'In Production', 'On its way', and 'At Retailers'.
  7. Probably indirectly, as it sends more power to the front wheels in Sport mode (if you're accelerating harder and using the lower gears more) then as soon as they lose traction it will pass torque to the rear wheels. But I don't think it will actually change the split. (There is a UBSeleven mod that will encourage the use of the rear wheels, but this is also reported to increase fuel consumption!)

Sure, he's after his sales bonus and not worried about providing the car you want. My sales manager half-halfheartedly offered to see if the car I'd configured on the website was already available, but we both knew that the options I wanted were unlikely to be on a pre-configured car. Heck, none of the cars in the showroom even had the Virtual Cockpit never mind my other 'wants'!

That's presumably for the changeover to MY21 cars, although as far as I know there are no panel changes so they shouldn't have to update the presses. And the software and other changes shouldn't take much re-engineering on the line I wouldn't have thought. Now OK, normally there would be maintenance work to do as well while the production line is idle... but wouldn't they have got that done when they closed down for Covid-19 back in the spring??
  10. But your Roomster won't have keyless entry will it?? It's that new 'aid' that seems to cut battery life dramatically as they are constantly signalling to see if your car is nearby, while the old style (like my Golf keys) only transmit when you push the button.
  11. You can buy a pair of keyfob batteries at Boots cheaper and it's easy to change them yourself. I'd buy some Bosch wipers at a motor factors, Amazon, or even Halfords.

I ordered my Sportline 2.0TSI with a customised build on 2nd June, and was told handover would be mid-September. When the MY21 spec was released, I updated my order on the 21st July with changed options. The order was confirmed by Skoda UK on the 30th July, but no build date announced yet. Given that it takes about three weeks to get a car from the factory to the dealers, I'm now expecting handover at the end of September at the earliest 😞
  13. Yes that's why I'm surprised, and the choice of Driving Modes is also very useful, so if it doesn't have that I'd definitely look to buy a higher trim level. I think there have been some other recent threads about the wisdom of buying an SE trim car (but I've just realised that was your thread
  14. Or perhaps it's NOT standard on the SE! The latest price & spec list shows Drive Mode Select as an option for the SE and SE Drive, and only becomes standard from SE L upwards. Older cars may be different I suppose, but forum owners would have to advise you on that. 😞
  15. Perhaps it's only available via the Drive Mode menu then? But it does have to be 4x4 not 2x4 so are the SE pics 4x4s??
  16. I believe all 4x4s have the Off-Road mode, and this Skoda webpage gives more information about its use: https://www.skoda-storyboard.com/en/models/skoda-4x4-your-best-bet-in-the-snow/ Chris
  17. OK... sorry I misunderstood the point you were making.

I was wondering that, but would the light stay on after the wheel had stopped slipping? But the light stays on if ASR is deactivated... has the button been pressed by mistake perhaps???
  19. Do you really need snow chains? From memory they are a pain unless you have to drive on packed snow as they wear rapidly if used on cleared tarmac. (At least the old metal ones did.) If you're thinking of driving mainly on gritted and cleared roads then I've found winter tyres (on a set of winter wheels for ease of changing) quite sufficient for recent winters. And I'm now more inclined to fit all-season tyres and just stay at home in blizzard conditions
  20. I've seen the Area View camera offered by specialists... but at an eye-watering price!
  21. Unless you want to invite arguments should you ever need to make a claim, I'd say yet. But check the small print in the warranty to be sure. I'm pretty sure it was a condition in my VW extended warranty for my Golf.
  22. If you were happy with the standard suspension in your Karoq, and are looking at a Karoq with the same size wheels, you know what you'll be getting. I'm ordering DCC with my new Karoq because it comes with 19 inch wheels and ride comfort is important to me. As well as letting you choose your preferred setting as road conditions change, I've read that it actively reacts to different surfaces to constantly improve the ride. Is it essential? No. But I fancied splashing out on the basis of other's comments. Electric cars suit certain users - those who do mainly short journeys, or don't mind breaking long journeys up into short hops with stops in between. (assuming that they have planned their route to find suitable charging points on the way!) While my weekly trips are well within an electric car's range (especially at the moment!) we also make long trips across Europe each summer which would be very tedious in an electric car. If I had to go that way it would need to be a hybrid, but then the extra costs and reduced boot space would also be a killer for me.
  23. I've since realised that Merlinman's Edition won't have the Soundaktor, so I guess there's still a chance that when I connect a Carista to a Karoq with the Soundaktor it will give me that app. And I noted in the OBDeleven thread that the Carista seems to work well with the Scandinavian DRLs. So perhaps it#s still worth a punt to see if it does work for me?
  24. That's interesting! Whatever coding Carista are using must be available via OBDeleven as well, so I wonder if their app does the same or not? Or do we need someone to work out the Carista coding for us??

There's a useful article in the Skoda Storyboard at https://www.skoda-storyboard.com/en/innovation/dashboard-cameras-where-its-advisable-to-put-them-away/ that explains which countries take a vey dim view of dashcams. Could be useful to you if you plan to drive in Europe?
