  1. Welcome. It is a well known issue and a member with experience of it should help, a mod will move your post to the Superb section as i flagged itup. Sorry but no idea who you can complain to as Skoda / VW in the UK could not care less. Car out of warranty and they are off Scot free. Even when cars were in warranty the 'driver' was to blame according to them.
  2. the wipers can be sanded down and given as many treatments as you like, rust inhibitor, etch primers the best of paints, they go back to crap.
  3. @Berisford^^^ That is the Extended Warranty, (as below) & not the 'All in package'. This Extended Warranty https://insurewithskoda.co.uk/extended-warranty
  4. Welcome. I do not know Octavia Mk2's, but It may be as simple as the battery going flat in the Alarm / Siren. They are a consumable eventually. Some fit another battery, most get a new alarm / battery unit.
  5. It does require Full Synthetic oil but not Full Synthetic Long Life oil. I hope they are not charging that much more than if it was an engine that just uses Semi Synthetic.
  6. BMW. They were not crumby base models. Just 2 years back.
  7. Yes it is but sealed for life, so OK if OK. But sealed for life is a term that after 10 years some start to consider is it worth maybe having the oil (transmission fluid) changed. ? How many miles has the car done? ? Does the F1 Autocentre invoice show what engine oil (Spec of oil) they used at Services?
  8. The flaw is that the engine / engine oil is getting condensation in it. & on short journeys not being burned off. Not really burned as it is water, turned to steam and leaving the engine. But maybe you are someplace with not too much cold days and nights over a winter. They will have used the correct oil hopefully, not sure if they used 'Long Life oil' for variable servicing since your engine was never one that was showing as suitable for variable only fixed but they might have done as most dealerships only use long life oil. (Some that do 'Special offers ' might not. But still even with Long Life oil that does not mean that leaving that oil 2 years and doing a low mileage is simply clever. http://volkswagen.co.uk/owners-and-drivers/servicing/service-plans/service-schedules It will not kill your engine. I take it your Tiptronic Gearbox has never had an oil change, but then VW never gave them a Service Schedule / Recommendation.
  9. Odd how he says 'supercharged' in the early video when it is turbo. 'Turbo or Supercharged' in this. 121 Octane fuel.
  10. Not everyone can drive a manual, but then the ASG is an 'Automated Manual.' One of the worst ever fitted to cars in the past decade. Vorsprung Durch Technik somehow got forgotten by VW Group. Obviously the Kia Picanto was a sister car to the Hyundai i10. A had one of those. 1,100 cc 16valve 4 speed (O/D button) Then there was the Suzuki Jimny Automatic with a traditional Auto and a 1,328 cc 16 v Engine, 4 speed auto O/D button. Had those also. Had a Smart, and had a Toyota 1.0 iQ Multidrive. (CVT.) A wonderful 4 cylinder engine and autobox in the Picanto and as long as you you did not belly out great in winter with the right tyres. The iQ was awesome as well, brilliant fun on good roads and winter roads.
  11. Fixed or Variable Service Intervals is VW 504 00 (VW 504 / 507) (Dealership use that.) so 5w 30 FS III. Fixed Service / Oil & Filter change VW 502 00, so 5w 40 FS. I would be using that. No particular brand, ASDA / TESCO etc, COMMA / Fuchs / Quantum etc etc. VW recommend Castrol, i would not bother about that.
  12. Honda do staggered wheels / tyres on the more powerful Honda-e (150ps) & BMW do it with the i3. 'Very Sporty' rear wheel drives. Not just RWD's. Some think it looks better & grips better, but wrong wider tyres in the wrong weather conditions might not be. From testing by Bjorn Nyland.
  13. @gregoir Is it going to a main dealership for the work. I hope not unless you are very flush. Has the Air Filter not been changed at the last service, and can you not look at it, see how clean it is or not, and change it instead of being charged £45? £35 for a Main Dealer changing a Pollen Filter, eeek The Pollen filter is easy, vacuum the area after the filter is removed, clean the area / wash it. Fit a new filter. If it was my car and i had driven it from new i would not be changing the cam belt. (Well thinking of it i would because i had been driving.) ? Has it had the brake fluid changed, or at least tested for H20 content?
  14. VW Up! are available with 1.0 TSI engines. Now only TSI's or as a EV. Jeremy Clarkson says many things. Citigo never got the 1.0TSI in Europe, they did in South America and run on Ethanol. *They have a bigger fuel tank.** Lots of Suzuki N/A vehicles in the UK, many thousands even millions not that old, that is Suzuki who have a good reputation for small capacity turbo engines, so much so that VW bought into Suzuki to learn more from them because of their work with Fiat, Mazda & Mitsubishi on Turbo's, Twinchargers & Electric Superchargers. I have a 2010 N/A Suzuki 1.6 Automatic. Suzuki Swift Sport had a cracking N/A engine, & 1.2 N/A engines if various models were & still are good. There are DualJet Suzuki's available in the UK like with an Ignis which comes with or without Mild Hybrid.
  15. 'Warranty' ? It is a car over 11 years old. It did not come with a code for variable serving (Oil & Filter Changes) in 2009. They were Fixed Service Interval. @springdove So if you want the oil to last 2 years with such a low mileage and maybe short trips and never burning off condensation then that is a choice, but not a good one really as the car is a keeper and had money spent on it. If you can not change the oil and filter then a local garage might at a reasonable cost, and also check other things you might not be checking but best be checked on a ramp / pre MOT's. ?? What oil was used the last time that it was changed?
  16. It is a 'Could be called Elroq', then again maybe not. and looks rather big so heavy to have the small batteries suggested as in 'The batteries will have a capacity ranging between 28 and 45 kWh with autonomy ranging between 250 and 400 km. (155 miles to 248.5 miles) That would really require 'Improving technology in batteries' that VW Group talk about. Because 28 kWH batteries now can not take a car that size 155 miles or 45 kWh 248.5 miles. In the real world, not WLTP. Kerb Weight ? Length. Between 4,000-4,100 mm Width ? Height ? ........................................................... VW ID.3 217 miles WLTP, with the entry level Pure Performance 45 kWH battery pack http://autoexpress.co.uk/volkswagen/id3/97043/new-volkswagen-id3-entry-level-pure-performance-joins-line Length 4,261 Width 1,809 Height 1,568 .................................................................................................................................................................. A Citigo IV / Mii Electric / e-Up! has a 36.8 kWh battery and a WLTP range of 140-170 miles The kerb weight of 1,235 kg Length 3,600 mm Width 1,645 mm Height 1,492 mm As a comparison, a Mazda MX -30 now, with a 35 kWh battery, 30.5 kWH usable capacity. https://insideevs.com/reviews/491928/mazd-mx-30-highway-range-test-winter Kerb Weight. 1,720 kg Length 4,395 Width 2,035 height 1,570
  17. Hyundai will be a bit peeved that Guy Martin showed what real world driving can be like for range when he took a Ioniq 5 to John O'Groat and back. Also a bit of a red face for Ionity with their 350kWh charger at Gretna Green. Maybe the Scottish Government & Charge Place Scotland might pay attention to the situation for travellers heading up and down Scotland in Ev's since they promise so much and deliver a pretty poor setup. This was on 'Guy Martin, 'The Worlds Fastest Car' on Channel 4.
  18. Once Skoda gets production underway there will be Mk 4 Fabia with the option of a N/A engine.

Sadly it is the case that they car ruin a cars reputation. As can Motoring Journalist / Vloggers / Bloggers and road testers that @croquemonsieurand the rest of us read. I have yet to meet one at a new car launch for the media that has a tyre pressure gauge with them and that check tyres before driving off. Never seen one go to a filling station or weigh bridge either. (With petrol cars they do not even know if the Media Team have them filled with Super Unleaded or even better than 100 ron Super.) They take the hospitality, collect the keys, they might read the Media pack and they write reviews. I never collect or borrow any car without checking the tyre pressures, never have for many years now. It is amazing what garages and hire companies hand over to people. Never a comment from a Motoring Journalist though.
  21. I believe it is not right and less than the capacity by a fair bit. You would know that if the oil was drained and measured. Dip it cold, see where that is. Then when you have driven at least 10 miles do a check and compare. Too many mechanics and techs say it makes no difference, well do it and see because it does with a 1.4 TSI / TFSI and it has been an issue for years now. Best run with a correct quantity of oil and not as much as 1/4 low before you get a Low Oil warning.
  22. Welcome. Nothing to worry about yet since you do not know if the put the correct quantity of oil in at the service. Less oil was running hotter, and using oil and degrading it quicker. the correct quantity heats up slower, but cools down quicker as it should be doing, oil is a coolant. ? Why 4 litres in 6,000 miles, have you put that much in since the service? *** Opening the bonnet and putting in 0.5 litres puts the light or message out, but so does opening the bonnet and doing nothing does as well for about 60 miles.*** Once you topped up have you checked again when the engine / oil has been up to the normal operating temp, parked on the flat and checked after a few minutes. It should be above the crosshatch area, so on the flat bit. Area A as shown in the Owners Manual. At the next oil change you might want to stop using VW 504 00 long life oil, 5w 30 FS III and do fixed service intervals for Oil & Filter changes and use VW 502 00, so 5w 40 FS.

Good stuff. Remember tyres should be set when cold, and when ambient temps are different still check when cold. I guess that the weather is quite good around your way so check the tyres regularly. The TPMS will fail to note if the tyres lose pressure quite evenly, what it flags in a change of dimension on a tyre from what they were set at. (You need a system that checks pressure and heat of each tyre to get a more accurate indication.)

@croquemonsieur What Car & Autocar are owned by Haymarket Media Group (Lord Michael Heseltine who brokered the sale of Bentley to VW Group.) HMG do work for VW Group such as vehicle Launches. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haymarket_Media_Group Honest John now owned by Heycar, part owned by VW Group & Daimler. Just saying, there is a bit of 3 monkeys going on.
