  1. Removing the engine oil in now at the operating temp (hot) is as good a flush as is needed. That is the oil being removed that you know how long has been in there since you had the last service done. (Getting an oil change on a new to you used car means you have no idea what crap is in there.) So hot oil pumped out and then the sump plug changed or just pumped out and no sump plug change, or the hot oil drained via the sump plug is all that needs doing. EDIT. https://www.oilspecifications.org/articles/vw_motor_oil_specifications_explained.php
  2. There is no Sidelight Bulb to swap out. The Blue Bulb in the headlight is a dummy. The DRL units you are showing are the DRL's if the Switch beside the fuse is on, (Later cars did not get the switch) and they are the Side Lights / Position lights when you turn on the Sidelights or Sidelights & Headlights. Less bright when they are on as sidelights compared to when on as DRL's. So do the DRL units not come on currently as the Sidelights? Former owners might have modified the lights and actually have the bulbs in the headlights working as sidelights because some have done this over the years. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/476690-mk2-fabia-vrs-sidelights-are-my-fof-lights http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/458023-side-lights
  3. I am charging at Castle View Park and Ride Stirling for the first time since it was completed and chargers all operating and the sun is splitting the pavement and providing lots of electricity via the solar canopies. 132 parking places under those. Only 4 50kW charger units but 29 others and 70 connectors in total. The lack of toilet facilities is an issue, you need to walk quite a bit to get to a place with them, or get on a bus maybe. . 4 Rapid chargers really is not enough. People were waiting to get on them when i left. If there were 100-125 kW chargers with the option of paying to use then people would do. Maybe one day there will be people parking up at the slow chargers for part or full days.
  4. True I have paid £40 on cards so far and £17 at InstaVolt but then I have tapped in dozens of other EV drivers that had not received cards in time, or could not get phone reception or an answer from CPS. So that will be my wee contribution to the Electric A9 which is still a joke. SWARCO now have a few more maintenance people employed and hopefully from the end of the month there will be an improvement. Not that mobile reception at chargers will be guaranteed. The charger I am at now is being cooked by the sun, there are cars on the other chargers and the speed had slowed right down. I am happy to pay to rapid charge if it was rapid but there are none like that anyplace near. Not worth going to Gretna Green for unless going that way. I already charged in Perth free while shopping.
  5. Charge place Scotland card gives free charging at chargers councils have not yet impossed charges to plug in or per kWH. Highland region is very expensive. Angus and Perthshire and South Ayrshire still free but Angus will start to charge in October and South Ayrshire in September. SWARKO take over from CPS/ BP on the 26th and no longer a £20 charge for a card but sadly the apps will still be rubbish. 26th July to early 27th chargers might not be available as the change over happens. The new Call centre staff will be at the old Michelin factory in Dundee technology complex.
  6. No it is spend £1,000 which on a lease might be £1 a day. That is to charge less often because you have more range and take advantage of free chargers as often as poss. That will be more difficult in this next year in Scotland as more places are charging. I am on my second charge today after 400 miles and starting off full after charging last night. Temps were around 20*oC but now 25-27*oC and quick charging on a 43kWh charger but the car was using lots of energy just keeping the battery cool and the car interior cool. Usually just about high teens ambient temp is most economic IME.
  7. Having driven 11,000 miles in an EV in Scotland over the past 11 months and paid so far £17 for charging £1,000 spent on a Heat Pump would be a priority to me for where I am travelling. But then you learn what is important for where you drive once you are driving EV,s
  8. A vehicle with a good range is a blessing, one with an even better range is well worth having.
  9. In that scenario it can be real world and public chargers not readily available if you divert so you are in a better situation if you can eek out the range. There are lots of the UK with chargers out of commission for weeks on end and the chance of rapid charging is very few and far between or actually non existent. Especially in serious weather conditions including flooding or as it was during lockdown car parks closed or hotels etc with chargers closed down.
  10. The UK has parts with very differing weathers from October to June and a Heat Pump can be rather important if you happen to be using your vehicle in areas where it can be pretty cold and roads can get closed because of snow and diversions can add over 100 miles to getting to journeys end or even anyplace on your journey. PS, also it is a rather different with 1 or 2 in an EV and using heated seats / heated steering wheel and keeping cozy enough than a full vehicle with people wanting warmth and fresh air and not steaming up the vehicle. The range does change in lots of EV,s if you add an extra 300 kg or so and need heating or even cooling. It is a shame that WLTP / RDE2 is not properly based on fully loaded vehicles.

@skoda1982 Exactly, which is why i posted after @peterhr's post. I was guessing he had not checked his own vehicle.
  12. This might be useful for those looking at this thread in the future.
  13. Built by George Longstaff. I had a 2nd hand Longstaff bike about 30 years ago and it was very expensive then and it was stolen from me. http://longstaffcycles.com Dundee is so busy with Cyclists these days. http://greenhealth.scot/morecycling https://www.anguscyclehub.org/dundee-cycle-hub http://sustran.org.uk/find-other-routes/salmon-run http://komoot.com/guide/20994/cycling-around-dundee
  14. Spotted in Dundee today. It looked to me like George Berwick was one of the riders but if it was he must be in his 90's now & i never got a chance to talk to him. He held records in Scotland for decades to miles ridden in 12 hours, 24 hours & the likes of the Snow Road 300. He was a founder of the Rough Stuff Fellowship back in the 1950's.
  15. Was the most basic of checks done after the fault codes were read. Ie the spark plugs removed and inspected and replaced if required. That would be before replacing any ignition coils which might prematurely reach end of life because of overheating spark plugs.? EDIT. Sorry missed point 2 reading on phone . You really need to inspect the plugs very closely. They are overdue the VW group recommendation on replacement.
  16. Usually it is best to go for the correct oil for your vehicle and in your case it is VW 504 00 and that is usually 5w 30 FS III be it fixed or variable service intervals. You can do oil / filter changed at up to 18,000 - 20,000 miles. VW 508 00 so 0w 20 FS IV is not the correct oil for your car.
  17. Welcome to the forum. It would be good if you gave info on what engine / gearbox your Octavia has.

^^^ They did, and that was 'Simply Clever' and so handy, then they stopped doing that and it is now a PITA. @peterhrdoes your new car have a build sticker in the spare tyre well?
  19. You can go to your own profile and find your previous posts / activities. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/485090-servicing-14tsi-for-first-time-since-i-bought-the-car http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/491489-high-fuel-consumption-after-servicing or just on the general subject a Google or Briskoda search of briskoda VW 508 / 509 and there are lots of threads. The VW group recommended oil for your car is 5w 30 FS III (Long Life) which is to VW 504 00 / 507 00. The 0w 20 FS IV is what VW started using from the factory for the WLTP / RDE and when the GPF's were fitted to TSI's, and that is VW 508 00 / 509 00 It is not a recommended oil for your age of TSI and it is another chance for a co-ck up with Dealership employees. These are the people that say you must use the Recommended Spec of oil. That is the Manufacturers Recommended, not some muppets with no idea of their arse from their elbow. *They need to read the 'Not backword compatible.' bit in the VW Group Information.* PS Maybe go 0w 30 FS III and stick with VW 504 00 / 507 00. And a TSI on Fixed Servicing can even use VW 502 00 which is 5w 40 FS. There you get a long lived TSI engine and no long life oil or long service / oil change intervals. This came in with Euro 6d temp engines and is nothing to do with the engines before then, Euro 5 / Euro 6.
  20. I am saying that some Dealership Groups or Dealerships use 'Automatic Gearbox Specialists to contract work out to, even large ones likes Park's (Skoda) Hamilton. Not all have Master Tech's with the Qualifications or abilities. Do not let VW Group Employees tell you Clutch Slip is not an issue as it is very much a known issue as there are TPI's covering it and plenty that have needed Software Updates and even Clutch Upgrades, http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/439395-the-story-of-the-famous-dq200-clutch-slip/page/14 http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/444617-7sp-dq200-dsg-failure Obvious there are very good Dealerships with great staff like the one near to me who have top Techs & yet in the group there are other Dealerships with total muppets. @logicleehas had enough experience of DQ200 DSG's with failures and might have had the same as you are experiencing.
  21. ? Are there not Automatic Gearbox Specialists in your area? Often that is who Skoda / VE Group main dealerships use when it comes to doing more than plugging in. Long established ones with a good reputation. It would be surprising if they did not have the equipment and experience of DSGs.
  22. It just confuses things if people start taking about 1.5 TSI,s ACT,s and DQ200 DSG,s that there was the need of software updates for engines and some of their DSG,s with 1.4 TSI,s and DQ200 DSG,s. Totally different kettles of fish. The last of the 1.4 and DSG,s were as good as VW got then there was a bit of a ****-up getting the 1.5,s ready for the WLTP. The OP needs their vehicles issue diagnosed by someone with all the gear and more than just ideas.
