Replacing our Karoq
EV's are heavier than an ICE vehicle if they are ones that also come with a Petrol / Hybrid or Diesel version. Platforms built to be EV only are built with the steering, suspension & braking engineered to suit that vehicle with the vehicle rolling along at full revenue weight. There is a major issue with Motoring Journalists, reviewers, bloggers and floggers and that is they collect a vehicle and drive them, some for a short while and some long term. Many will never go adjust the tyre pressures or even check them, and many will drive them on their own. So a city car, medium size or large family size car driven with one seat occupied and they comment on the ride and handling without knowing what the tyre pressures are. Those that test cars with the seats occupied and with stuff in the boot, maybe even a bike or 3 or the rear rear rack fitted to the tow ball might be getting more of an idea how a EV will ride as a 'family' might use it rather than a 'Commuter' or 'traveller' will.

Replacing our Karoq
@domhnallGood stuff from East Lothian Council. There are Regional Councils in Scotland that need to get their act together like ones north of the Central Belt or of Perth. The very different costs to charge around Scotland at Charge Place Scotland chargers has become ridiculous. Highland Region being far from funny.

New or improved hubs announced, Government EV Loans in Scotland and free & no longer free public charging places..
Highland Council is taking the pith really. The neighbouring Authority to the east take £3.90 per session. So much renewable electricity is being generated offshore in the Moray Firth in the Beatrice Field. It is going to come down to the Commercial Suppliers making the investment in charging stations.

Replacing our Karoq
The 4 nations of the UK's need to get on with having charging points and 100's of thousands of lamp posts around the UK, they have less than a decade to be getting on with it.

What a PITA some parts of Scotland are like Moray Firth / Nairn and the Highland Council area. Getting a Rapid charger that is working is a case of luck and some can be down for weeks. Then with the likes of Nairn you are maybe coming from the A939 so you might get on a charger at Tomintoul or Grantown on Spey for 45 minutes and have enough range to get to Nairn and then get back to one of those chargers or along the coast. 30 pence a kWh on a 43/50 kw charger and then charged at £1 a minute if you go over 45 minutes. No idea if charging for 45 minutes and then unplugging and then plugging in again is a loophole if there is nobody else waiting to charge. If the chargers go unrepaired it hardly matters.

dsg 7 maintenance
If you still have the car in 2027 maybe think about having the oils changed but that is up to you. There is no service interval or regime or any recommendations for doing any servicing on a DQ200 DSG. It is a case of doing nothing unless you have a fault. They can need Clutch Packs, they can need new or refurbished Mechatronic Control Units, they can go wrong, but not according to the VW Group. So there is no Servicing Schedule or Recommendations from the VW Group. Some do preventative servicing but that is their and your own choice.

dsg 7 maintenance
It is a DQ200 DSG if a 1.6TDI. It is if FWD and with an engine producing no more than a 250Nm of torque. That is how it has been since 2009. (As for a Sealed Box, well there was the World Wide Recall in 2012 & the European Service Campaign from 2014 when the Oil was changed from Synthetic to Mineral in boxes 2009-2012. Then there are members here that do oil changes as nothing is sealed for life if it has a drain plug and a refill place.)

dsg 7 maintenance
True if a DQ200 7 speed twin dry clutch DSG. (but not if a 7 speed wet clutch one. ) So is it fitted to a 1.0, 1.4 or 1.5TSI or a 1.6TDI? Maybe after 8 years or around 100,000 you might want to be changing the 2 oils that a DQ200 DSG have, but many will not bother.

A good few will be getting a NIP from going too quickly here. There is a clearly marked 40 mph area before you come into the 30 mph but many ignore these signs. I was doing a very safe speed and allowing for my stopping distance on the pavement.- E-bike
Carrying a 2nd battery on the front rack i have fitted, and carrying more extra weight with a charger in my back pack i am getting 30 miles full assistance from each battery. That is in this pretty warm weather and the furthest i have ridden and still had some charge is 70 miles. I am planning in doing some 80-100 mile days in the next few weeks where it will be possible to get the battery charge during the day. That takes 3 hours to get a battery from near empty to full. Average speed on road or is about 13mph.- Thule Easyfold XT towbar bike rack
A Thule VeloSpace XT so not the folding version but i have used this on a Yeti and the rear hatch open just fine.- New or improved hubs announced, Government EV Loans in Scotland and free & no longer free public charging places..
- Older 1.4/1/2 TSI high-ish mile Petrol examples? If they've survived this long.....
@RakerObviously it can not affect every vehicle. But you want to find one that has had a 'fix / upgrade', or be prepared to pay to have the upgrade done for peace of mind. That means looking at invoices and maintenance record if there is one, or if you are looking at a noisy car then maybe expecting to have to have work carried out.- Deposit on Dip stick
Welcome to the forum. Whoever told you that at the dealership is a liar. Was it a Technician or someone else. I would call Skoda Assist and have that car collected and a courtesy car delivered, or just get it back to the Dealership and get a refund.- help finding a new bike
@mac11irl Is there anyplace in your area or anyplace you go that has Demonstrators or Hire bikes so that you can be sure of exactly what you do want or need in frame size, bottom bracket height etc. If you are crossing the water anytime this is a good place to spend some time at. https://www.thebreakpad.com/index.php/kirroughtree- Octavia 2021 1.5 etech engine
All that was needed to assist those that complained of wheelspin when taking off with 1.5 TSI,s and even 1.0tsi,s . Now smoother take offs are there if you want and if you need a shift on floor the accelerator. Or so the theory seems to have been with the VW Group. Drivers will be those that have to live with it as there are not trying to replicate the WLTP or RDE2 that matters so much to how VW engineers vehicles now. http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/skoda/octavia/estate/prices-specs/96308/1.5-tsi-e-tec-se-l-5dr-dsg- Oil change
If you want to pay a lower purchase price for VW 504 00 / 507 00, so 5w 30 FS III best look in Asda as well as Tesco because they seem to be pricing against each other. More often Asda has reduced prices on the oil. Made by proper oil producers and to the correct spec.- Classic Cars
- Octavia 2021 1.5 etech engine
i have driven a Octavia 1.0 e-tech (Mild hybrids) and it felt very good with good take off from a standing start. I would hope a 1.5 e-tech would be much stronger. Engines really do not need run in to get better fuel consumption, but tyres do and need the pressures checked and reset and 'Brakes need driving in' as they are at their thickest when new, discs and pads. The 1.5tsi e-tech is a mild hybrid so is pulling away on electric drive is it not? Very different from a 1.4 TSI pulling away in 1st and 2nd.- FIXED - Problems with Michelin Crossclimate + tyres on Octavia VRS TDI184 4x4
Best get those tyres replaced because that is handling pathetically 100 miles are just scrubbing in though. ? Have you tried just a few PSI difference front and rear, and are the pressures set with an accurate gauge?- AMD's 2 litre 304bhp 162mph Fabia Monte Carlo TDi *6 speed conversion*
Have you never done the engine change with your V5 to the DVLA or have they just not changed it on the database?- Oil change
@beezera10 Professionals and non professionals can be doing more than just a few oil changes in a day and H&S has them doing hot oil changes and still changing the sump plug as their manual states they should. As for checking the bottom of a drain tray or the filter on the catcher for bits, you can strain the oil you are pouring out the pump container and check. Each to their own how they do stuff. When i was an apprentice there was only one way of doing it and it was your way. Only it was never hot oil we drained. Drain off or suction off engine oil.doc - Allen Millyard bikes video.
