  1. I just had a close look at the housings on my Polo's headlights ( one original AFAIK, one aftermarket) and can't see anything specifying what bulb type they are for, or any other regulatory info TBH?
  2. How would a tester know what housing type is or isn't compatible with an LED light source though? Edit, now that I've read your second sentence, I see, I think.
  3. Actually, I think I'm wrong. Section 4.1.4 of the test manual from Oct 2019 only specifically mentions HIDs as being an instant fail in halogen housings. "Existing halogen headlamp units should not be converted to be used with HID bulbs. If such a conversion has been done, you must fail the headlamp." I think there was a previous revision where that mentioned LEDs too, or something like "any other type of light source than original" or words to that effect. Fail criterion 4.1.4.c might still be an issue, but not sure how that would be judged?
  4. @Magoochie, how does it sound at idle, smooth and even, or far from it? Just wondering if one cylinder is misfiring regularly or all the time at idle? That might account for the way-out emissions numbers? Check ignition-related stuff for this.
  5. These two sentences are nothing like 'purely assisting'. Pointless and rude would be better descriptions.
  6. Still an MOT fail though, no?
  7. The sticker on the belt cover contains the engine number too, just after the code, doesn't it? That might be on V5c? Could enable a cross-check.
  8. I've heard of snake oil, but never bear oil?
  9. Wrong again. BNV and BNM are listed in the wiring diagrams as 'from November 2005'. Definitely mk1. Lots of mk1 engines have codes starting with the letter B.
  10. Yeah, seems like the simplest explanation.
  11. See above your post.
  12. The listings I have show no usage in Skoda, Seat or Audi for CAYD. In VW Caddy, CAYD and CAYE are both found (first 2 columns are kW and bhp):
  13. Could both be broken wiring, but check fuse for reverse lights before revisiting that one. No rattliness from engine?
  14. Part number seems right. Yeah, give it a try.
  15. No separate washer shown for pulley bolt item 5 here https://skoda.7zap.com/en/cz/fabia/fab/2003-225/1/105-105002/
  16. If the breather system is working well there should be no pressure there. It will only ever see splashed oil, not pressurised oil. Not sure why it was so loose during fitting though. Bought from where, under what part number? Will look up washer situation shortly, what year is the car?
  17. I guess you won't be replacing both? 😆
  18. This is possibly useful to you: CFD explanations.pdf
  19. Let us know how you get on, and good luck.
  20. At least 3 different engine codes for 1.4 TDIs in mk1 Fabia according to this document:
  21. @mrgf; I think you'll struggle to find anyone who can tell you this info. Using a piece of stiff fence wire may be a way to find out for yourself? Round/smooth the end off first so it doesn't catch on, or scratch anything. You'll hear and feel it arrive at the bottom of the sump, I think.
  22. I'd be tempted to wait and see if we get any more hot days this year! Maybe have a look and see if there are any members near you that could scan the car (and look at HVAC measuring blocks) for some beer tokens, rather than invest in VCDS yourself? Being a tad more precise about your location may help with that. I only have VCDS Lite which won't talk to your car properly, I believe.
  23. All that leaves is wiring between Climatronic unit and fan control module, and/or the Climatronic not actually requesting fan action for some reason. Since it would take both wires to be broken for the fan to not work on either speed if it were being requested by the Climatronic, I'd have to conclude that the Climatronic module is not asking for fan action. Why not? Dunno. VCDS might be able to help.
  24. I forgot the health and safety briefing - mind fingers/hands when doing the linking; make sure they're not amongst the fan blades!
  25. Scroll up to the post I wrote 8 hours ago.
