  1. At least on mine, the 195/55 seems to be more expensive. though i don't know what the Octavia uses as standard or if it's even more expensive. Over at camskill a 185/60 is £15-20 cheaper per tyre than the equivalent 195/55. I've been running those as winter tyres since they're slightly narrower, but come to think of it I'm lucky not to have had an accident as I suppose the insurer would count it as a modification. Oh well back to the regular tyres in a week and hopefully the snow this year is finished.
  2. not sure what the cost is for the spec and factory fitting, however there is someone selling on ebay - item 140926538591 - and according to that it's a diy simple replacement procedure with no wiring changes needed?
  3. Ah.. I read it wrong then. In that case I do have only the battery light and one other - possibly the brake/abs light? - that remain on till engine started after the initial lightup and warming. I don't actually know if that still is the case? I do remember my earlier diesels weren't supposed to be immediately switched on, and I don't know if it's changed with these later ones, but I still wait just to be on the safe side.
  4. All my lights go off once the engine is started.
  5. Is that the new one with clips? All I see on it is "fastened using velcro fasterners.." EDIT: never mind, OP link is to the new one with clips
  6. I haven't needed to do the passenger seat as mine already has the box, have been thinking of getting the bin under the drivers seat but was hesitant as i heard it may involve disconnecting airbags and whatnot.... Myth or fact?
  7. I don't know about the seat pockets or glove compartment area, but the cup holders on the middle back seat should be able to be rectified by getting a middle seat from a breaking Roomster. There are a couple nearly complete Roomies on ebay at the moment with some nasty shunts but the inside parts look like new. Under passenger seat, and for that matter, under drivers seats, i think it's theskodashop.co.uk which sells originals for under £15 each and they're not too much trouble to fit. stupidly low price though - I'd pay 2 grand happily to buy a car like that.
  8. Will that be the SE or the mythical SE+?
  9. Ugly as it is, have to say it does capture the style of the Chinese market models so far, especially locally designed ones. It would probably sell alright there. Try to flog it here and the only positive aspect of it is utility. But a skip is utilitarian too.
  10. The windshield swap went ok, aside from them not showing up on time it was fine. Verified that mine has no aerial, the fitter did the whole thing in about a half hour, with no broken parts. (Had some idiot swerve into me today and whack off the driver mirror, knocked off all parts including the mount, then as i went to go collect the parts a truck drove over them and wiped any salvage fantasies - but that's another issue - run of bad luck seems to be the order of the day) National DID ring me up today and try to sell me insurance as my renewal is due, but with 650 from Admiral and their offer of 2300, I think I'll just use them for what they do best.
  11. I wonder why they would say 185/55 is ok and not 195/55 - as they are both 15 inch and would not affect the brakes differently. My summers are 195/55/15 and winters 185/60/15 with a circumference variation of +0.9 inch, and I haven't noticed any adverse effects. the circumference variation from the 205/45/16 to the recommended 185/55/15 is -1.2 inch, while a 195/55/15 would only be +0.6 inch http://www.miata.net...e/tirecalc.html
  12. Great engine, the 1.9 is. 60 mpg and reliable as hell. I've put 20k on mine this year and hasn't skipped a beat mechanically. They do chew through front tires though if you drive the B roads.
  13. Thanks for all the advice - rang Admiral first to ensure it wouldn't count against no claims and after a very unhelpful chat with someone in India(?) finally got confirmation. So National Windscreens booked for Friday, fingers crossed it doesn't rain and they don't break any parts. I don't think mine has embedded aerial, it has a large aerial on the front end of the roof - which incidentally has been acting up, perfect reception until i turn the key and then it goes all static. £75 excess and no option of paying more and getting it done at dealer. How good are these pattern part windscreens? Is there any sense in planning on ordering an original from Skoda and eventually replacing it?
  14. Suppose I'll be ringing Admiral on monday to find out. I'm fully comp but with voluntary excess of £500. Not sure if it applies to windshields as well. Also will have to see if it will affect my no claims, otherwise I may just pay out myself. cheaper than paying the increase in insurance
  15. So was going along the motorway today when a rock flung by a truck hit the windshield on the drivers side right next to the edge, I now have a 4 inch crack on the outer layer of glass. Don;t think it has gone all the way through as I can't feel anything on the inside of the window, but having rung autoglass to get an estimate of repair cost was told it's too big to repair and replacement would be anywhere from £250 and way higher. Has anyone got an idea of price and whether long cracks are worth trying to repair?
  16. you're right... it didn't click for me that it was a 1.6...
  17. All 4 pages from my service booklet regarding the roomster
  18. this may be a starting point for an idea of items and prices - according to them you're looking at the major service http://www.pulmanser...ce-schedule.pdf also http://www.skoda.co.uk/gbr/owners/national-pricing/pages/servicing.aspx
  19. I had a stubborn light to remove previously, it had either some corrosion or melting on one side of the contacts inside, a little prying loose with a screwdriver and it came out easily after that
  20. My new (old - last year of life left in them) winter tyres provided incredible traction on the drive home. Only on a 20% hill did i start sliding and had to turn back as other cars had slid across and blocked the road, and I did not care to join them. still, very impressed. But I did wish I had socks or chains. When googling I came across a site that said chains are not good for the roomster, something with the sensors in the wheel area - is this true? the correct answer would influence which one I buy.
  21. Yes, I do hope these are just unfounded concepts. Unfortunately I don't speak German and Google translate doesn't seem to be doing its thing properly. http://www.autozeitu...-2014/n397185/8 http://www.auto-moto...to-4293477.html http://www.focus.de/auto/neuheiten/van/neue-modelle-von-skoda-der-roomster-rueckt-dem-vw-touran-auf-die-pelle_aid_729582.html
  22. I quite like the new look on the Fabia, but I'm not so fond of the new roomster look... it's no longer the unique vehicle it is now.
  23. Somewhat of an explanation on DE here http://www.hella.co....eadlamp systems http://www.hella.co.nz/67/ Don't understand though how Triaxial Ellipsoidal translates to DE. Edit: dreiachsiger ellipsoid - must be deutschesprechen for it.
  24. Definitely noticed that once I switched. Low revs that previously were manageable now are annoying. I find myself changing gears at minimum 1250 rpm now. On the bright side, I hope less vibration means a longer life for the flywheel, and the handling has majorly improved.
