  1. Except it doesn’t in my car...
  2. I'm tempted by this too - esp. as it showed up in the Shop on my Infotainment system. It's the £150 that's holding me back - seems like a lot of money to not have to flick a column stalk
  3. Is that only for those seats with a Massage function? Don’t recall seeing it as an option in mine - must go and check!
  4. Only experience I have of BMWs dates back to the 1990s so not relevant hence I can’t comment on any comparison. As for the Skoda... I would be fair to say that the majority of people posting on this forum would be those experiencing problems or like yourself researching. The trend seems to be that earlier built Mk4s are the ones with the majority of problems. I got mine at 6 months old, registered in September ‘20 but the build date is before July - a fairly early one, with all the updates applied - those that were available at the time I picked it up (early March ‘21). A few niggles remain however. No ‘show stoppers’, and most are down to my lack of familiarity with modern car technology which is a quantum leap from my previous car (and I’m not ‘computer shy’, been working with and implementing the things since the late 1980s). Yes, there is a few bugs in the Infotainment System, all of which are pretty minor, and is probably more difficult to set up that it ought to be. The most significant is the units (see the KPH/MPH thread), which in day to day driving is of little consequence - until I go [hopefully] abroad sometime, but is apparently a compliance issue. Skoda are working on it (many and varied are the opinions as to how committed Skoda are!). The Front Assist, ACC and Lane Assist are really quite good in my opinion. Yes, some ‘interesting’ experiences with warnings and brakes auto applied but in reality its a good reminder of how complacent one can be when driving! On the motorway, I’m now pulling out to overtake earlier than before, creating more space around me on the road - that can only be a good thing. Lane Assist is not intrusive (unlike a Kia hire car I had 18 months ago) and works well with the ACC and is pretty good at recognising vehicles in the lane you’re in and not those in the one to the left. Doesn’t like undertaking though, which again is arguably a good thing. Ride & Handling? I’ve come from an entry spec Mk2 Superb FL, I reckon the ride in that was a bit better - longer wheelbase and smaller wheels, not so low profile tyres and lower pressures will all contribute to that. The Octy4 is absolutely fine for me and my driving style. Headlights are way better than those on my Superb (not Xenons though). Space and value are big plus points for the Octy4 Estate, as is fuel economy (early days, but I’m getting about 55mpg from a manual 1.5Tsi). I suggest you try to find as dealer who’ll let you do an extended test drive, chat through user profiles and demonstrate it working with the different keys etc.
  5. Very nice - and socially distanced I see
  6. I’ll add a few answers from what I’ve found and my experience... The car has an eSIM built in and you can buy a data contract once the 1st year bundled service expires. It’s through a company called Cubic, includes European roaming. Alternatively, I believe you can connect the car to a phone hotspot. Not sure about frequency of map updates, I guess quarterly. Live traffic - doesn’t seem as quick as Waze (Google maps) Text messages - I’ve only done it through CarPlay The iPhone should auto-reconnect to CarPlay. Mine does sometimes, seemingly only when I have been listening to Spotify instead of the radio. I haven’t had it long enough to prove that scenario or work out if its a bug! A couple of taps on the SmartLink function and it’s done. iPhone battery drain is OK. Not dissimilar to Bluetooth link to my previous car. As an indication, about 4 hours driving listening to Spotify (streamed) used about 40-50% of my iPhone XR battery.
  7. 1. Same here; I have to hold the button to move the seat to the memory position - or use key association.... 2. As I understand it - Need to unlock the car with one of the keys, make the changes/settings, then lock it with the SAME key to associate with that key. Do for both keys. Considered a Volvo because of the seats - last one I drove was my Dads’ some 40 years ago. Seats were great back then!
  8. Now that is a very good idea - especially as Wade integrates with Spotify... Thank you!
  9. The most useful feature is the trip planner - or it would be if you could send the route to that car, which you can’t Other than that, being able see the range left in the tank could be useful - but I’ve been driving since 1976 and haven’t needed it yet
  10. @janis I’m excited for you. First new car is something special Hopefully you’ll get it tomorrow and can enjoy it over the weekend...
  11. Great to read your positive review, thanks for sharing. I’m experiencing a few too many niggles (incl. the kph/mph issue well documented in this forum) which is a real shame as it takes the shine off an otherwise very good car. I must drive like my grandad ‘cos today’s motorway run I got 50+mpg from my 1.5Tsi estate.
  12. As I understand it, Yes; though so far I have only set up one key with the seat memory etc. It needs a second user to log in to the car and that is associated with the second key (the guest user can’t save personalisations).
  13. Yes, I noticed that too - but was heavier rain and thought it quite nice that I didn’t have to think about the rear wiper. As you say, nice that it wipes when selecting reverse; also that the headlights [can be set to] come in when raining.
  14. The mirror and seat positions settings saved are fantastic. I am about 30cm taller than my wife so having the seat move is ideal. I'm frustrated that the Drive Mode isn't saved in the driver profile, would be so nice to just get in a drive with it set how I want it. Lane Assist isn't so bad - worth driving with it on for a while. I disabled the steering wheel vibrate, just get a little resistance on the wheel if I drift to the edge of the lane (and if I let it, it will correct). It also works with the ACC in detecting vehicles in the lane you are in and not those you are overtaking. Interestingly I have had mine about 1 month and have already adapted my motorway driving to use the various Assists - rather than letting them drive me I am using them in my driving.
  15. A very good question! I have mine set up and have some interesting stuff in the app, such as confirming the car is locked; but would I pay for it? Jury is still out on that one... Some functionality isn’t there yet, or isn’t working for me anyway. The remote lock/unlock is supposedly setup but doesn’t appear in my app. Similarly, I can plan a route in the app, but can’t send it to the car - which seems a bit pointless! Logging into the web portal is says the send route to car isn’t available yet. What I don’t know yet is what the significance of lost functionality if I don’t not pay for the services. Over the air updates for example. It’ll be interesting to know what others are thinking...
  16. Lane Assist has been OK for me but I have had a few odd events such as a light fault (DRLs) warning which cleared itself on stopping and restarting the engine.
  17. I feel your pain with the ‘richness’ of the infotainment system. I moved for a Mk2 Superb which had the then basic Swing radio and a CD player, no SatNav, and basic AirCon The Mk4 Octavia is a world apart, but after a few weeks am getting to grips with it and I’m sure you will too. There's lots of helpful people on here too - for example, the other day I 'lost' the odometer, and somebody pointed me in the right direction.
  18. Works for me, thanks @ShEfA @TheUltraRunner - Deactivating ACC by pushing the third (ACC) column stork away, beyond the spring to cancel it turns off the ACC symbol in the virtual cockpit - and shows the total mileage
  19. Yeah, see where you’re coming from. Though to be honest it doesn’t bother me as I’d just use the Long-Term memory and reset it before a weekend trip away (when we can do those!) or the Since Start. I think it’s a function of Skoda moving to the touch-screen world! Lots of things have lost their dedicated button which is a bit of a shame and widely commented in this forum.
  20. I have the Columbus Infotainment system in my SE L FE and there are three trip counters - Since Start, Since Refuel, Long Term. On the main screen can swipe from one to the other. To reset...
  21. Nice! Hope you enjoy it...
  22. Brilliant, thank you. I’ll have a look next time out.
  23. Hope your dealer can get the Auto Hold sorted. iPhone auto reconnection is a thing in my car too. I suspect (though haven’t validated it yet) that if I listen to the radio then turn off the ignition, my iPhone doesn’t auto reconnect next time; whereas if using CarPlay when turning off, it does. I’ll try to remember to check what I do each time... With the voice activation, I have turned off the listen for activation phrase and just press the steering wheel button to activate it. Works surprisingly well for navigation etc in the car and for Siri (a long press)
  24. Hmm... Just found it in the My Skoda App - Vehicle Status (the bit that shows the time/mileage to a service). Be nice to see it in the car though!
  25. OK, feeling a bit of a numpty... How the ...... do I display the total mileage my car has covered? It’s displayed briefly when turning off the ignition then poof its gone! The three standard displays (Since Start, Long Term, Since Refuel) don’t show the absolute total mileage, and I can’t find it anywhere else and not found it in the User Manual (except with the analogue dash). Am I missing something obvious? For context, I have an early SE L First Edition with the Columbus Infotainment System and the infamous ‘KPH/MPH issue’ Thanks
