  1. @Gax - I was aware you’d had problems with your Mk4 but missed that it had the Swing and you’ve clearly had a very poor experience. And yes, my conclusion appears way too simplistic! Sorry about that. It does remain though, that whilst the loan car is not the variant/spec I bought, it is working faultlessly so far.
  2. Whilst there are several folk here who have issues with their Mk4 Octavia, and I am one of those, it is worth noting that not ALL the Mk4s have issues. Whilst my SEL First Edition is being investigated by Skoda UK for a variety of issues (mainly KPH/MPH) my loan car (1.0 eTEC SE First Edition) has been faultless over five weeks and 2500+ miles. Perhaps too simplistic, but it seems to me that it is those early built cars with the Columbus infotainment system that have the majority of issues and are tarnishing the Mk4 - so we should be careful not to damn all variants.
  3. I’ve no experience of the 1.5 e-Tec, but am currently driving. 1.0e-Tec DSG whilst my 1.5 TSI (manual ‘box) is at the dealers awaiting a fix for the infamous KPH/MPH issue. As for fuel economy, both cars give me similar, around 55mpg (about 5.1ltr/100Km I think) - this mostly for long trips out of town & major roads.
  4. My iPhone gets quite warm whilst charging and using CarPlay - but no more so that wireless charging at home. I think it may be a function of wireless charging as if I use a cable it gets less warm.
  5. I’ve been driving a 1.0 e-tec estate for about six weeks now, now issues at all. In fact very pleased with the ABS etc. when nearly driven off the road by some numpty in a big 4x4 coming the other way… Could it be that your issues are with the front assist (collision avoidance) or something like that?
  6. Yes, what @just music said - and note that for the settings/user to be saved to the key it has to be the same key that unlocked it.
  7. Sounds like you have a problem with the seat to me. I find the seat-pedals-steering wheel are slightly out of line but am fully supported both sides of the seat.
  8. There is only one 12v outlet - in the boot, on the right hand side high up under the rail for the sliding cover.
  9. thank you. I need to hit the switch and turn off the light !
  10. To be clear guys, does the light need to be ON or OFF for the airbag to be active? Thanks
  11. Nice! For those without an Ikea nearby, I got one of these from Amazon along with a short USB-C to Micro USB cable - works a treat with my iPhoneXR. Very handy as CarPlay for both navigation (Apple Maps or Waze) and Spotify simultaneously seems to hammer the phone battery on a long run.
  12. Interesting indeed. I have had weekly courtesy calls since I left mine at the dealers middle of last month. Similar to @golfnut mine was an ex-demo / employee car; I am though driving another of the Dealers cars - which gives me hope as this Octavia Mk4 is working OK. It will get some serious mileage in the next ten days so I hope Skoda UK compensate the dealer appropriately.
  13. @Ajdude pleased to hear you’ve got it sorted Hope the VRS works out well for you. I’m hanging on in there for now, though I don’t know how much longer. Like you @Coume I now wonder if my dealer will looking at a buy back. Which dealership is yours from? I got mine from Meadens Brockenhurst as an ex-demo.
  14. Yes, I had something similar during the first couple of weeks - I was trying to work out why the App was telling me the car was not locked and a door was open when neither were true. My continual refresh of the App brought up that warning. I guess its some form of security thing, bit like three attempts at your bank card PIN only its a lot more than three with the Skoda App. Was reset after the next drive.
  15. I discovered that today! Quite nice to have the flexibility once I got used to changing up so rapidly after a junction - whilst twirling the steering wheel. Found myself putting it back in D at those busy spots then in to S and using the paddles for full manual once out on the open road.
  16. Not sure if it is 'normal' or not, but it is what mine does! ;-) I have a loan car at the moment (whilst mine is being investigated for the infamous MOPH/KPH issue) - its a Mk4 1.0 e-Tec DSG (and my first DSG too). That coasts some of the time on a closed throttle, at other times will keep the engine running with the benefit of engine braking. Fortunately it seems to be almost intelligent in that if I'm on a downhill and lift my foot off the throttle it keeps it in gear for the engine braking whereas on a [near] level road it will coast with the engine off. Just relax and enjoy the ride...
  17. Is it connected with CarPlay as well? I’ve have found it is either ‘traditional’ Bluetooth phone/audio or CarPlay (and then control is solely through the Infotinment system). Confusing though that CarPlay also uses a Bluetooth connection!
  18. I get a full screen with CarPlay, with both Waze and Spotify - the only two apps I’ve used. I wonder if it is related to phone screen aspect ratio?
  19. So good to hear you’ve got it sorted - hope you enjoy your trip away …
  20. I’m hanging on in there for the time being. My loan car (SE FE 1.0 e-Tec DSG Estate) is doing the biz for me though without the extra toys of my SEL FE; and so far no niggles with the loaner. I’m not sure how long to wait though. For me, it feels premature to start rejection/return measures, yet the longer it goes on the more I doubt! Last call I had from Skoda UK made mention of a potential six to eight weeks - so that’s three to five more in my case. Meanwhile I’m dealing with a bunch of non-car related issues so am staying chilled over this one!
  21. Updated 'scores' including the last couple of weeks comments... Styling - 10 Fuel Economy - 8 Power/Performance - 7 Value for money (incl. extended warranty value) - 3 Space - 3 Assist Systems (ACC, Rear Assist) - 2 DCC - 2 DSG - 1 Memory Seat -1 Matrix Lights - 1 Comfort - 1
  22. Are you using CarPlay/AndroidAuto or Bluetooth to sync the contacts etc to the infotainment system? I use CarPlay and then Siri to initiate a call - works OK.
  23. Could ask the dealer to remove the rear ones too - see how long they spend searching for them...
  24. I think it can only be saved to your user in the Skoda cloud, not to USB. Theory is that if you log in to a different car, preferences get copied to that car - would love to try it with seat and mirror positions as well as radio favourites.
  25. Nice! Setting up a user will probably help, but I agree, I'd have thought it would remember without that. Unless, maybe, some settings were associated with the key at delivery at it goes to those each time now. @Ajdude - I wonder if we'll end up choosing cars based on the infotainment system, a bit like smartphones (Android vs iPhone) or computers (Windows vs. Mac)? Sorry, danger of veering way off topic....
