  1. My first 6 months of driving was around The Midlands during the long hot summer of 1976 so I know your pain. Somehow four open windows and 70mph don’t quite cut it - like standing in front of a hair drier on full heat 😂 Joking aside, it sounds like some of the control linkages have come adrift on your car - hope they can fix it soon…
  2. I’ve never used the postcode search in the satnav but I do know that others have had similar problems - and I believe a fix for this and many other issues is on the way, maybe later this month.
  3. To avoid repeating myself, take a look at my reply to a similar question -
  4. That is an interesting, important, and potentially dangerous use case which I hope Skoda/VAG are aware of. If you’re braz=be enough (and the road quiet enough) its worth trying the ACC in that scenario and reporting the result to Skoda if its a problem.
  5. For the app based lock/unlock, yes you need the user account validated through the dealer and the car needs to support it. My early built car appears not to. If the lock & unlock buttons appear in the app for your car then that’s a good sign - just need to get the user account validated. At the time I tried to upload a route to my car the function wasn’t available, a pop up telling me it will be implemented soon. Can’t try it at the mo as it is at the dealer awaiting the kph/mph fix.
  6. The Sync setting is not something I have used but from memory others posting on here have mentioned that Sync is not saved to the user profile (causing frustration for some). Whether this is by design or a bug in some versions/models I don’t know. From my experience, the temperature settings are retained - whether they were the same or not when I switch off.
  7. I have a loan 1.0 e-TEC DSG estate whilst my own car is at the dealers at Skoda UKs request. Driven for a couple of months and nigh on 3000 miles. I am pleasantly surprised at the performance and drivability for a small engine in a big car. A couple fo long motorway journeys (two up and full boot) with good economy and adequate ooomph. It held 70mph easily on inclines such as the long climb up to Sharp (M6) and Beatock (M74) summits as well as the shorter sharper climb of the ridgeway on the A34 south of Oxford. As @VinzClortho mentioned, the fuel economy is good, overall 56mpg since I’ve had it. It’s certainly worth a close look, and if you can, take one for a drive - I’m sure, like me, you’ll be surprised.
  8. Alternatively, the components could work on a service based architecture - and provided the interface calls from one to another remain consistent, it won’t matter which version each is running. An old central unit, for example, could tell a newer lights unit to use Auto dip mode. A fix to the lights unit may be applied so that the Matrix Lights work properly whilst the central unit remains on the old version. I think that makes sense, its getting late…
  9. Thanks. Mine has the KPH/MPH issue and a few of the others you mentioned and has an update scheduled for later this month - here’s hoping…
  10. That is really encouraging to hear and I hope it proves to be a long term result. Out of interest, did yours have the infamous KPH/MPH issue? (I have lost track of who had what issues with what model…)
  11. My car has been at the dealers for about 2 months for diagnostics and awaiting a fix and have been told that a major update scheduled for later this month (w/c 21st) and apparently another five weeks later - supposedly fixes all the problems customers have been experiencing (oh heck! I sound like a customer services agent ).
  12. I seems to be common practice for car dealers to advertise in this or a similar way. Back in the day when I got my first car (1970s) it was a sticker in the rear window - which if I tried to remove would leave a messy gunk behind which was a pain to clean off. If I let it, it would really wind me up! For a generic registration number then I'm quite chilled about having the dealer name on but if I'd splashed the cash on a personal number then I would, like you, not want it bespoiled in any way.
  13. I can understand that you have lost confidence - but in general, the later built cars are not so bad as the early builds. And remember, most people only post on forums like these if they have problems with their car - so you will get a negative bias. I have been driving a late 2020 Octavia whilst my own (early-mid 2020) is at the dealer awaiting a fix from Skoda UK. This loan car has been faultless for the 2 months (2500+ miles/ 4000+ Km) I have been driving it. A fix for mine is due later this month and I hope it will sort the issues with it. Several of the issues are UK (or right hand drive or miles (not Kms)) specific such as speed limit signs recognised in Km not miles, sometimes! For the assist systems, they cannot be permanently disabled, which is a frustration for some - all down to personal choice. The exception is the Cruise Control / Speed Limiter which is configurable. I don’t think this will change with the latest software version. There is a button on the steering wheel to give quick access to control the assist systems whilst driving so, for example, the Lane Assist can be disabled - but once you restart the car it is enabled again. The Octavia is a great car to drive and a ‘pleasant place to be’ which is why I am waiting for the fix - I want my car and am frustrated, but I am giving Skoda the opportunity to fix the issues. I hope this helps you to relax and look forward to your new car…
  14. @Pete The ACC and Travel Assist fixes are a couple of the things due in the June (3rd week) update, or so I was told by Skoda UK. @TheWanderer I will most certainly be sharing experiences when I get my updated car back - hopefully ones of pure unadulterated joy…
  15. Welcome to the forum - and your new Skoda . With those extras you added it will be a very nice car. I hope you enjoy it and it serves you well. You can add pictures easily with a post, easier in a web browser than an app I think. There is a separate thread for pictures.
  16. I hope so! Had a call from Skoda UK earlier I the week and my main dealer today. There is a scheduled s/ware update due in third week of June and another due five weeks later. One or other or both ought to fix all the problems we’re experiencing - or so I am told.
  17. I’m debating the best time to ask for compensation, and how much (or what) to ask for; it will be knocking on for three months without my car assuming I get it back at the end of this month.
  18. Thanks. During my call with Skoda UK, I was encouraged by reference to the fix being for not only the KPH/MPH issue, but also things like ACC, road sign recognition, emergency braking and so on. I so want my car back, and working as it should!
  19. Was it raining at the time? When I was washing my car, with the key in my pocket, it would lock and unload all by itself. Put the key in the house and it was fine.
  20. Likewise. I had a call Tuesday afternoon with a similar message. Hopefully our patience will be rewarded…
  21. That’s what I’d expect. We all buy our car from a Dealership so our contract is with them, not Skoda UK. Skoda UK want the cars fixed and sold; Dealerships will want (or ought to want) happy customers so they return, even if for a different brand of car.
  22. From memory, it is in Menu —> Settings —> Units Should be able to change the speed between KPH & MPH and , if fitted, the SatNav to Km or Miles. Though as @Nosnehm mentioned, many of us have the option to change, but nothing happens!
  23. Yes, that’s all I found in the shop on my SEL FE.
  24. Seems a bit harsh. For all we know her time in VWG included a shed load of training and product familiarisation - just because it's not listed there doesn't mean it hasn't happened. I have had some very helpful and constructive conversations and I have found her experience in the business to be useful. And yes, I am a disappointed owner of a Mk4 SEL FE which has been off the road for six weeks. Guess we all have our own perceptions though.
  25. Which I hope is what Skoda UK are doing with all our cars that are off the road. The number of CAN modules and the complexity is probably why it’s taking what feels like forever to get a fix. A reason to be patient whilst they sort it - yet a reason to be frustrated because they should have done it before selling the things! At the moment, my patience is winning that dichotomy; not sure how long for though….
