  1. Thanks. So I’ll have to find some deflectors when I go to mainland Europe. Was hoping those days were gone! C’est la vie...
  2. I don’t have this option in my SE L 1st Edition. Anyone know if it is... ...to do with the fact that it’s a relatively early build and suffers with the metric/imperial kph/mph issue? or... ...because I have the normal LED headlights (not Matrix). Thanks
  3. Stumbled across this thread. I didn't even know there was such a thing as a GPF! My previous car was a 14-plate 1.4Tsi Superb which I guess didn't have one anyway. Now have a 70-plate Octavia mk4 1.5Tsi which presumably does. Will keep an eye on fuel consumption which so far looks good (50-ish mpg). Thank you to @e-Roottootfor sharing your expertise and to @ordsfor very valid comments about acknowledging help & searching before asking.
  4. I'm considering putting a dash cam in my shiny new Octavia mk4, with a preference for the Nextbase 522, maybe the 422. I'd want to mount it behind the rear-view mirror on the passenger side (RHD car) so it doesn't obstruct my forward view. I would also want to add the plug-in Rear View Camera (not the Rear Window Camera to avoid cable runs) - however the mirror would block the line of sight. Does anyone else use the Nextbase rear view camera plugging in to the main unit, and how have you got it installed? Thanks
  5. I'm new to the car with it's ACC and various Assist systems (couple of hundred miles that's all) and am trying to get my head around whether it's ACC or Front Assist (or Side Assist?) that is causing a deceleration. In some scenarios it's fairly straight forward, such as catching up with a car that's doing a few mph less than me. On other occasions it's less obvious. Also, I'm looking at what settings there are to fine tune the sensitivity of the sensors/systems, and what real world difference they makes. Hopefully, Covid permitting, I'll soon be able to make a long run up the motorway and try the options and determine which works best for me.
  6. I think the vehicles are set to the variable' service/oil change interval, using long life oils and sensors to determine when work needs doing. IIRC its up to 2years or 20k miles but may be less based on driving style, loads etc. Mine shows the same number of days, yet a slightly different mileage for the two items. @Coume I reckon the Oil Change being 'Not Found' is because you haven't yet done much mileage. A few hundred more and it ought to show up. @fossman I'm guessing the oil sensors are indicating an oil change ahead of other service items. Such a disparity after a low mileage seems a bit odd though. Perhaps a chat with the dealer to clarify is in order.
  7. Seems that HJ contacts Skoda UK Head of PR to forward on our complaint/issue. After emailing him with my issue he asked for permission to share with Skoda, along with a bunch of other details about the car and contact details (all this for GDPR privacy compliance as well as giving Skoda the details they’d need).
  8. I noticed that with mine, seems to miss a beat every now and then. As DuncanW mentioned, mine does coincide with the ACT 2-cylinder activation/deactivation. Pleased to note that this ACT applies in each of the three Drive Modes I have.
  9. Mine, a week after picking it up - Petrol Blue. Love the way it looks different depending on the brightness or angle of the light
  10. This morning I heard back form HJ. I’m now the 10th person to make contact and I’ve forwarded details so he’ll be taking it to Skoda UK too. Reassuringly my dealer seems to be taking it seriously, with discussion going to senior management; and they have been in touch with Skoda UK themselves. My car, one of the early builds, was fully updated prior to my collection last week.
  11. Thanks for the nudge/encouragement to contact HJ... Just had another thought - has anybody tried changing the language setting to French, German, Spanish, or something? Does that change the options available or the default speedo units? Could make following SatNav direction a little interesting though ;-)
  12. Early days with my car (1.5TSI SEL 1st Ed), today is day 7; it was registered in September 2020. I too suffer with the inability to change the speedo to Km/h and the SatNav displays Km not miles - and I can’t change either in the settings. Additionally, the settings option to change the headlights for continental driving (Travel Mode) does not exist. Looking at the system information I have... Part Number 5E3035816 H/W H56 S/W 1668 ... which is common with those others on hear with the same km/h-mph issue. Do you also have the Travel Mode headlights issue? I am in email dialogue with my dealer, who to date have been OK - but early days as I mention. My latest email refers to this forum thread and the common fault; I’ll wait their response before contacting Honest John.
  13. So, is the High Beam Control worth the £179? Seems like a lot to not have to flick the switch - but I do like a few toys...
  14. Just had a look at the shop in my car. Two options to buy... Ambient Lighting - Additional Colours - yes, at the exorbitant £44 High Beam Control - at £179 I assume the latter is just the Auto dip functionality as I don’t (to my knowledge) have the Matrix headlights
  15. Sounds a good idea - but a numpty question: how do I find the build date for my car? (I know it was registered in September ‘20)
  16. Haven't noticed anything (yet). A short drive listening to Spotify through CarPlay was absolutely fine; and 1/2hr of using Waze through it was also fine (albeit spoken directions are relatively few and far between compared to an audio book). Was the audio book local to your device or streamed?
  17. I’ve just (as in two days ago) made what feels like a quantum leap from a 14 plate S spec mk2 FL Superb 1.4Tsi hatch to a 6-month old Mk4 Octavia SEL FE 1.5Tsi estate. Quantum leap in terms of Infotainment system - taking me a while to get my head around it. First impressions are its a lovely car. Done less than 100 miles so far but on a 25 mile [essential] journey was very comfortable, quiet and fuel efficient. Absolutely love the adaptive cruise control - speed limiter. Far superior to my previous basic cruise control on the Superb. Auto headlights on when it rains is a nice feature and the blind spot sensor/warning is useful reassurance too. I could go on about the improvements over what was a very good and enjoyable Superb - but that was 7 years old with tech dating back a bit further. Happy with my purchase so far. Early days, yes; and I’m not sure how many of my Infotainment ‘anomalies’ are down to my ineptitude or software glitches or bit of both. For example, if my key doesn’t move the seat to my preferred position, well, I could live with that ‘cos I just need to press a button. A whole lot easier than having to move it back and down manually before I can physically get in the car (I’m quite tall, my wife isn’t... )
  18. Hi Daveb Just sent the afternoon getting my head around some of the tech in my new [to me] SE L First Edition estate. Can’t see any reference to the Traffic Sign function - which confirms the brochure and that which inspectoman mentioned about the Travel Assist option. C’est la vie Steve
  19. I thought that the road sign recognition was an option, for the vRS only, certainly appears that way in the December '20 brochure I downloaded. Might be wrong though... Picking up my (Sept '20) SE L 1st Edition tomorrow, will have a look to see if I can find it. Steve
  20. A very good point, thank you. I'm hoping to take delivery of my OtcyIV on Monday - will be checking for updates...
  21. Thanks bigjohn; very useful info about oil sensitivity and service choices. I’ll work though that as I normally do about 16k miles a year - not sure I fancy paying for [nearly] two services a year. It’s just that lockdown scuppered a lot of mileage it this year, and who knows about the next 12-18 months!? I trust you and yours are keeping well and avoiding this thing. You’re right about the surprising economy out of this 1.4 engine. The average over my last three tankful was 50.9mpg. To say I was gob-smacked is an understatement! It was mostly fairly gentle long distance journeys with several trips through lengthy motorway roadworks with a 50 limit - which shows the benefit of moderating speed (boring as anything though...). Thanks again.
  22. I’m confused by the service indicator on my 1.4 TSI Superb S, 64k miles on the clock - any advice gratefully received. October last year it had a ‘variable’ service at about 54k miles. Normally I’d be doing 15-16k miles a year; less this year. I’m now getting alerts that an Inspection is due in 10 days / 10200 miles; while the Service is due in 375 days / 8800 miles. Why the disparity in days/miles and what’s the significance of Inspection vs. Service? Thanks
