  1. As above, good luck with the fixing. Have you got a warranty on the vehicle? This happened to me in the last few weeks and it literally can just happen without any signs or notice, so it can't be pre-diagnosed. Mine happened when i turned it on so that will tell you how crazy it is...
  2. Yeh I have to say I was very impressed with the service I received in the last month with my engine failure
  3. Ok thanks for the comment. Thankful for the extended warranty - the invoice cost was around £5k and i'm told this would have been more if it was a Retail payment!
  4. Got a call today to confirm the car's now all fixed, engine done and extra work Can't wait to get back in it! Asked for details on all the repairs that were required, but apparently there's about 2 pages so i'll find out later when I pick it up! If it's a new engine, does the petrol TSI require a run in period?
  5. These fitted my pre-fl vrs fine and i've got the same ones in my FL vRS, but as someone said above, they don't have the rear fixings.
  6. I've just been through the painful experience of my chain belt failing last week and my car needs a new engine. The scary part of it is that it will give you no signs and just fail there and then. Mine was just parked up and then suddenly wouldn't turn on! When i get my car back, i'm going to speak to the dealer to find out whether the new chain belts are resolving these issues. It could just be a case of the old timing belts being ****, in which case getting a new engine with a new belt is a great purchase.
  7. Not sure whether that's correct. Mines just been sorted under the warranty and it's only had 1 skoda stamp out of 5 and they had no problem covering it. Dealer history isn't really important, unless you're out of warranty and after a good will gesture. As long as your car has been serviced to the correct standards using genuine parts, you'll be ok
  8. Some good news... Engine replacement and all parts being covered under the warranty ! Result. Still going to be driving the 90bhp diesel rapid space back for a few weeks longer, but there we go!
  9. Interesting. Looking at the pinned thread that we spoke in, it looks to be mostly 2009-2010 version... I wonder whether they've upgraded/changed the chain belt in the latest TSI engines?
  10. Thanks mate and there's been a bit of delay, but expecting a call back today. I've posted in that thread already and i've been added to the dreaded list haha Is this just happening in Skoda vehicles or is it across the VWG Group? Surely with the amount just logged on here, it's a widespread common fault and should have had a recall to replace the chain belts!
  11. Regarding the original post, my 59 plate vRS TSi has just had the exact same problem last week. Went to start it after work and it wouldn't turn over, had to have it recovered and towed to Skoda. Skoda confirmed the chain has stretched and new engine is needed. Luckily i'm still under my extended warranty and i'll find out today about how much contribution they are going to pay. Skoda milton keynes have told me one other incident like this happened before and he got 100% coverage. Apparently they send the engine to get it rebuilt rather than replace it for a new one. If they come back to me and decide that it's not all covered, i will be having a very strong word about it! Luckily for me I work with Skoda UK Head Office, so i've got contacts their who can assist me with this
  12. Yep was purchased from Abergele skoda in Wales. The service history.. No, didn't go to skoda as the previous owner lived a long way from any dealer apparently, but did have a full history
  13. Cheers mate. No warning signs at all, incredibly worrying! Just parked the car up, went to work and tried starting it again and nothing. Massive engine rattle and then further attempts to turn it over.. Nothing. Extended warranty as in the 1 year warranty you get when buying a used vehicle. Just been told they want to do a few checks on the vehicle so apparently that's a good sign for my claim. To be honest they'res no way I'm paying anything whilst under warranty and if there are any problems il throw the sales of goods act crap at them!
  14. Hi All. I've just found out that my Chain Belt has gone as well and that I need a new engine :( I've got an extended warranty and just waiting to hear back as to whether it's covered. I assume this should all be covered as it's a mechnical failure? Can't believe something like this can happen on a car with only 47k on the clock.... absolute nightmare.
  15. Ordinarily it's normally offered, but as the car had only done ~38k miles and the DMF is meant to last 100k, it wasn't done. Car's been towed to Milton Keynes and got a lovely 90hp Diesel Automatic Rapid Spaceback as a replacement
  16. Called the AA as my vRS wouldn't start and what I thought was a flat battery, is potentially looking like a DMF failure :( amazing how the car can be fine in the morning, leave at it work and suddenly something's broke.. only had my clutch and bearing changed earlier this year! Hope it's covered under the warranty else big bill incoming :(
  17. The only major issue i've had on mine has been the death of the clutch bearing. Not an expensive part, but the labour required to sort it can be fairly pricey. Very obvious to know when it's done as you'll hear a metal squealing noise when on the biting point of the clutch to release. Apparently it's common on the Golf GTI MK6 as well
  18. As above, it's all down to the tyres. When i bought my pre-fl vRS a few years ago, it had dunlop sp maxx tyres on it and it was incredibly loud. On my current FL vRS, i've got Eagle F1 asymmetric 2's and it's definitely quieter. Take a look on the black circles website and you can compare the decibel readings for different tyre brands
  19. Out of interest... when people were renewing their insurance with the FL vRS, did it come up as 'Limited Editon' with some companies? Found that a bit strange!
  20. As for your question regarding TFSI and TSI engines - in my experience, the TSI is a much better engine for the following reasons: - Doesn't require constant Oil top ups - Generates better MPG - Quieter Also all of the FL versions come with the TSI engine so yes, they're chain driven
  21. From my experience, if you open it slowly after heavy rain then it doesn't leak into the boot. I have to be careful else my precious golf clubs would get wet
  22. I have these and they're great. Just make sure you buy the correct fixing. Worth noting that the above mats are primarily made for the PRE-FL vRS, but do fit the FL version, although the back mats dont have anywhere to clip into
  23. the TFSI engine isn't great for consumption and oil in my experience. I owned a pre-fl TFSI and could get max MPG of about 34. I can easily get 40mpg out of my TSI FL!
