  1. I'm glad my ultra long post comes in handy these days
  2. I've just had to replace the clutch on my 09 vRS as the bearing had gone. My symptoms were a high pitched squeal when lightly on the clutch and was very noticeable when on hill starts etc. I didn't replace the flywheel as they're meant to last about 100k on my model, so depends on your mileage?
  3. It's also difficult for you as you need an estate. I found it really difficult to find any decent petrol hatchbacks, let alone the estates! For comparison... I bought my 2009 (dec 09) vRS petrol a few months back for £9995. No spec really, but only had 36k miles on it. I knew it needed a bit of work doing to it, but i ended up buying it and reclaimed most of the cost back from the dealership for not selling as 'approved used' standard. Do you need a vRS asap or can you wait? Luckily for you, it's coming up to summer so there will be a few more knocking about.
  4. Couple of things... Getting 45-50mpg with the TSi is impossible, think the second post has assumed he's talking about a diesel. I've got a 2009 TSi and i average around 33-34mpg... 40mpg on a long journey recently and 23mpg if you hoon it about 100%. As far as the price goes, it depends on the spec the car is?
  5. Just a quick update with this.. Got the clutch changed over on Thursday and noise has completely gone, so was definitely the bearing causing the issue. Nice to have a new clutch at 40k, but also annoying that it needed changing at 40k!
  6. gains depend on whether you've got a diesel or petrol mate, which have you got?
  7. Judging by everyone else's responses, seems like this is a pretty common issue on the FL vRS then! I would have left it as I'm told it's not going to fail, however it's incredibly annoying and loud so needs to be done
  8. Just a quick update on this... It is the clutch & bearing that's the issue unfortunately. Luckily I work in the motor trade, so I can get the parts cheap. Makes me wonder how much the previous owner must have abused the clutch for it to have issues at 38k miles!
  9. @vrsphil - that's what I think it is, but can't be sure! @yknot - It's ridiculous they get these issues at lowish mileage! Also a shame the warranty doesn't cover it.
  10. Yeh I was wondering whether it might just be a design issue and the clutch wears pretty quickly. The previous owner didn't do too many miles, so i'm assuming he did a lot of stop/start town driving, which may add to the clutch wearing quickly. I agree that it's probably not too much of an issue, but I can't be dealing with that noise everyday haha! It's getting diagnosed next week by my local VAG dealer, but thought I'd try get a heads up to give them some ideas. If it does turn out to be a release bearing or something similar, I will probably just get the clutch replaced to save money on the labour cost of doing that in the future
  11. Hi all. I've got an annoying issue with my clutch making a loud noise when at the biting point. It seems the noise happens when on the biting point only and doesn't occur when the clutch is depressed or released. If on a downhill or flat road, the noise is very small or barely existent, but when the clutch is under stress (say on a steep hill), it's very loud. Difficult to actually describe the noise it's making, but it's like the noise you'd hear if you were shutting the door on a large metal shipping container... if that makes sense? The car's a FL vRS TSi 2009 with 38k on the clock, so you wouldn't expect any clutch issues, but seems to be the case! FYI - car is still under a 1yr warranty if anyone think's it could be fixed under that. Any ideas?
  12. Does this affect just the CR version or the TSi's also? Mine's a Dec 2009 TSi and was hoping to get it mapped in the next few months.
  13. My 09' TSi VRS gives me pretty awesome MPG, for the performance it gives. My normal commute of ~25mi gets me about 35-36mpg, which includes about 20mins of very slow traffic! (none of this is motorway either, just a & b road). This week it's been averaging around 37-38mpg and on a random motorway trip, I actually got it to 40mpg. Very pleasing considering it's a 2ltr turbo! Compared to my old 06 TFSI vRS, that would only get me about an average of 31mpg
  14. my 2006 vRS used a lot of oil. Needed 1L every 6weeks or so. In my 2009 TSI, it uses barely anything
  15. Would just like to say a big thank you to The Chrisknott sponsor on here and also Paul from Chrisknott for giving me a very decent insurance policy. Had an accident in December, as per my other thread and found Chris to be very understanding and really helped me out. Bettered my quote by about £30-£40, lowered my excess and got all this with added courtesy car, legal cover and car hire purchase. Was very pleased to also hear the very small interest rate for paying monthly! A big thank you and hopefully I get my NCB bonus back so that my premium is even lower!
  16. that's ridiculous they can take so many years off it though. I know ultimately it's not much different for you, but still! I was coming up to 3 years NCB this year, but had a fault claim in december. My renewal is going to be £1000 (was £540 last year) as they will likely take both years NCB away! The worst bit is that i did a quote with my accident etc - £1000 and then a quote with 1years NCB and it goes down to £550.... just insane and extremely frustrating. Literally no idea how they can warrant that.
  17. 2 x Eagle F1 tyres fitted 4 wheel last allotment done Skoda refunded me for... - cracked headlight - 2 brake pads and discs - front and back wiper Also fitted a new gearknob decal as old one was flaked a bit. Just need to vac the interior and sort the flaking on 1 alloy
  18. Quick Update: Just been told the driver I hit has put a personal injury claim against me, so guess I can kiss my 2yrs NCB goodbye :( Quick photo of the new car: https://www.dropbox.com/s/zpm3qh1nksk8lth/Photo%2021-01-2014%2015%2019%2046.jpg
  19. haha I'm starting to enjoy the little digs at me now and then ! Have been contemplating the freedom, now that I've got another vRS. Yeh I was referring to the warranty given with the car mate. How difficult is that to do then? Is it literally just trapped moisture under the headlamp or something more technical than that? I'm going to my local independent VAG specialist on wednesday anyway, so maybe I should just ask them to look at it for me.
  20. Bought a new vRS 09 plate on Saturday. Bought some new Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres to get rid of the budget crap on ATM! Booked into skoda for headlamp condensation issue (should be covered under warranty?). Treated the leather on the backseat.
  21. Will do some tomorrow or Monday Btw how much quieter is the TSI compared to the TFSI engine! The facelift is almost silent
  22. Picked up my 09 plate vRS today! Great to be back in one and quite surprised how differently everything feels, even though it's just a facelift. Missed it a lot
  23. I've put it all behind me, got my payout which I felt was decent. On a side note,,,,I've put a deposit down on an 09 Metallic Blue vRS, which I'm going to pick up on Saturday
