  1. It would be the death of insurance companies. We would only need one car instead of two. Our running costs should go down quite a lot. But you can take the wheel from my cold, dead hands. I don't think manually driven cars will ever go away, too many people need them - farmers, rescue services, motorsports etc. At absolute worst case they simply wouldn't be licensed for public roads.
  2. And some people think switching to winter tyres is expensive ;) Back in the day, my driving instructor took me out in the snow as I did my lessons over winter.
  3. Report it to the police. Even if the number cannot be traced the phone using it usually can be as the carrier will know the ID of the handset and its location (which towers it is connected to). Others may have reported it too, if they are doing it to a number of people and your added complaint may make them up the priority. If they have any serious intentions to do anything, it is better the police know now. It is unlikely the police having a word will suddenly make them do something they would otherwise not have.
  4. If its bi-xenon then it already uses the xenon lamp for the high beam too? Which means its not H7.
  5. I've had a stuck caliper on one car and walking past it was like walking past an electric bar heater. I wasn't going to try touching the wheel.
  6. If your car has a manual headlight adjuster then the lamps aren't factory fit.
  7. Yup. My life and the lives of my family are worth more to me than the cost of a new tyre in these circumstances. I would never repair a tyre punctured near the shoulder.
  8. I saw this recently on a comparison site. It said if the footage is not available if requested, the difference in premium will be due. Your legal 3rd party liability obligations will not likely be invalidated by it at any rate.
  9. On a cat B you can drive a vehicle up to and including 3500 without a trailer too. The 750KG is an additional trailer allowance over the 3500KG.
  10. Flipped to manual or in Sports # mode mine will emulate 6 or 8 gears (8 in S#, 6 otherwise). I think the Outback has a flat 7 gears in manual mode, though. The Levorg does, at least. I drove an XV without SI Drive (mode selection) and it wasn't as good as you couldn't tell the box what you expected of it as easily. The coupling is definitely a TC with a lockout clutch. I can just feel it engage when setting off and releasing when I come to a stop.
  11. Yes, I have a CVT in my Subaru and it uses a thick metal belt/chain. There is a torque converter for starting and stopping. It is also rated to pull 2000KG. I would not want a geared automatic now as it is really smooth and fast to respond. They really have come on a long way.
  12. Efficientgrips are not at all wintery. Good All season types would be Nokian Weatherproofs, Vredestein Quadracs, Goodyear Vector 4Season 2s and Michelin Crossclimates.
  13. Pontefract/Castleford fits that price range pretty well and is currently swamped in masses of new developments. There is also a large Polish community if its something you'd want.
  14. If its only one click then it looks like its a switch from one without front fogs. It may have been changed at some point due to a fault and replaced with the wrong part. The switch should also have icons for front and rear fogs. If it only has the rear fog icon then its definitely one without front functionality.
  15. The DSR were replaced by the Consumer Rights Act. Under that they have 30 days to deliver all the goods unless otherwise agreed. http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2015/15/section/28/enacted Section 28.3.B The responsibility for the delivery, as concerns you, is 100% on the supplier and nothing to do with their chosen carrier.
  16. The STI is under £30k list price if its of any interest and almost no waiting as they are not built to order.
  17. This. There really isn't any 'youre doing it wrong' with this one. If the car stalls by design at extreme steering angles then its still a fault, but a design fault.
  18. I have the Forester and yes the manual states 500mm as the wading depth, but I would be rather wary of doing so as they put the turbo at the bottom front of the engine and is cooled through vents in the (rather hefty) skid plate. I don't imagine its a complete oversight, but it puzzles me.
  19. The EU tyre test is done at quite a warm temperature, so all winter tyres will perform poorly in it. Do not take it as a guide of how they will perform in the wet when it is cold. There are no standardised tests or ratings for this. Cross Climates are summer tyres that are designed to work better in the cold, but still cannot match the performance of most winter tyres as all tyres are a compromise. It depends where you want to draw your line
  20. I had to read these comments to even remember what was in the show :(
  21. I generally change mine with the clocks as the temperatures mostly match up. Sometimes they go off early if spring becomes excessively hot.
  22. Hmm, not sure. I don't believe there's any car that you cannot stop using the brakes even with the throttle locked at max. Brake system should be fully mechanical even if it has electronic assistance, same with steering.
  23. Not quite true. As long as the tyres are the correct size and meet the minimum load and speed rating requirements for the car then there should be nothing to declare, no more than if you changed to any other compliant tyre. Some manufacturers (like my Subaru) explicitly specify allowable lower specs for winter tyres too, to increase your options. You will need to consult them if you change the wheels though, or if you're reducing the speed rating below the requirements, though many insurers just wave it through.
