DSG not engaging. engine still on.
zei20t replied to 6th's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
hopefully they fixed the issue when it went in for the recall. if it happens again, im pretty sure you get 2 years warranty with all new parts supplied and installed by Skoda (In Australia) so get onto them and don't tell them it was happening before. just mention the recall being performed and they will **** bricks and look at it for you FYI, there are good VW independent workshops up your way if you need one. check out the Australia forum - not sure I can link it here - but it has to do with 'vw watercooled' and its an 'org' in Australia :P -
The heating only works for around 10-12 mins, and only if the external temperature is below 20c. Also, I think there is a CECM function to turn on mirror heaters when the rear demister is activated (regardless of mirror switch position). Did it on a Polo GTi yesterday, gotta see if its available on my Octavia.

GFB DV+ and Forge BOV
zei20t replied to AndypriorR200VRS's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
isn't the forge one vacuum activated? no offence, I don't know why you would go backwards in technology. IMO the DV+ is a decent product while still retaining factory parts. -
AFAIK, you can use the rear section of the LED fog on the front of your original ones. FYI, these are Fabia RS DRLs. I have a pair of these operating in place of the fog lights of my FL Octy RS. Look great!

Didn't really have time to check out any dealers or car parts places. Ended up buying on-line when I got back home. It was half the price including shipping. Its no wonder people buy from overseas when they live in Australia. I did see a heap of new Octavias over there which was good! Finally they have been released out here, well, a few months ago........... Thanks again everyone!

Guide: Upgrading Columbus firmware and maps
zei20t replied to AJ7788's topic in Audio, Electronics and Security
only a few things are modified, VIM is enabled, and the partitions are changed to allow more HDD space for music. the rest is unchanged. plenty of people in Australia (myself included) are using these modified firmwares successfully. if you don't like it, put the genuine VW/Skoda version back on.- 736 replies

yes, slightly louder than factory, but I have an aftermarket intake so the factory one was already heard - barely. anyway, seems to do the job well on my car!

I have the DV+ and its great!

my two cents: the bulb out check/warning looks for resistance of the incandescent globe. the LED has less resistance when 'on' so only has an error when you use it. the above diagram, although would work, has halved the average resistance of the LED and resistor. I think you'd need to put the resistor in parallel with the LED circuit to 'add' resistance.

that's not a bad spot to keep it, with the case it might be a little too large. anyway, I have the XBMC keyboard thingo that you can get from element14. its good, but too large and fiddly for the car. IMO get one from ebay they are about AUD$20 delivered, so probably 12-13 pounds for you guys. what distro are you running on it?

hahah we all speak English, but damn you guys speak a different language. thanks for the hints. especially for the VIN one! I didn't think of that!!

that is a GREAT idea with the Pi in the car! control would be an issue, need a remote or mouse. im not sure you could get the factory touch screen to pass that information on to the Pi. cant help with the screen input though, but as as RainbowFire mentioned, the reverse camera might be a good option. and its a composite video input - would be perfect for the Pi's composite output. hmm I might buy another one...........

Hey guys, I'm travelling to the UK next month - from Australia - and I want to get some spares for my wifes fiat 500 while im there. Prices out here are shocking for some pretty simple stuff like timing belts and water pumps. Besides the local fiat dealer in the Perthshire area, anywhere up there I can go to find such spares? Im doing a tour of England for a week but its time sensitive and im not sure I can just go off and find a place. Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated! cheers

Nokia Lumia 925 or Blackberry Z10 Which one?
zei20t replied to justinbarrow's topic in The Technology Shed
Nup, ended up selling the phone and its been fine for my mate. maybe it was user error for me :p the god of phones, the iPhone (sarcasm) also doesn't support RSAP. only some android based phones. That update wasn't an MS upgrade, it was manufacturer based. its quite easy to change to ring modes. on the lock screen (EDIT: any screen actually), click the volume button and touch the icon on the top right of the screen to switch between vibrate and ring+vibrate. -
Dump Valve vs Bov also recirc vs atmospheric
zei20t replied to ian89's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
I got the GFB DV+. it uses the factory solenoid but replaces the factory plunger. http://www.gfb.com.au/products/blow-off-and-diverter-valves/dv-plus/dv-t9351-suits-late-model-vag-euro-applications-by-gfb Better (IMO) than converting the factory one to a vacuum based BOV/dump valve. -
Nokia Lumia 925 or Blackberry Z10 Which one?
zei20t replied to justinbarrow's topic in The Technology Shed
they have improved on the focusing with the 925 from the 920. I had that exact problem with focus 'sticking' on the 920. haven't had it happen with the 925! -

The good thing about BB and having a BES is the encryption from the server to the handset. Which is why they don't (not sure if that's still the case) work in some countries as the local government can't look into what's being transferred over the air.

Actually they are old, which is why they don't support that functionality. email was never supposed to be used for what it is actually used for today.

Hotmail/Outlook/Live all support Exchange ActiveSync - That's the 'push' protocol your phone uses. Get a copy of Outlook, add all accounts there. Problem solved. Can even reply with whatever account you want, or the one that received the email. The mail client that comes with Windows 8 works perfectly fine, if you have that. IMAP and POP are 'old' technology, and don't support push for instant notification of emails.
