  1. Glad you got it sorted. I was told the coil pack is only about £35 but it's the labour charge that bumps the price up of course.
  2. Hi guys. I've finally gone and done it. Part exed my mk 3 Octavia combo 1.4 tsi for a 16 plate Fabia Monte Carlo 1.2 tsi 90, in black magic pearl with 17 inch alloys, and its fantastic. It's taken a few adjustments to get used to it but I'm so pleased I changed. The engine note is taking some getting used to, being very throaty and vocal. My 1.4 tsi was very quiet. I've also had to drop my speed considerably for the speed bumps on my way to work because my octy straddled them. All in all, I'm very happy with it. Next job is to fit some mud flaps. On another note, I can't seem to get Spotify working on CarPlay. I select a song but nothing plays, but when I check my phone it shows a song playing. Am I doing something wrong ?
  3. I didn't go to the dealer in the end. There was no guarantee they'd help towards the cost of repair plus the 90 odd quid it would cost to look at it for an hour. I found a vag specialist in bulwell where I work. Turned out it was a coil pack. There was a misfire on number 2 cylinder. The total cost was £160. I'm due to trade my car in tomorrow for a Fabia Monte Carlo. All in all the Octavia has been ok. Problems have been, possessed touchscreen in winter when cold, never fixed even after a touchscreen replacement. Wastegate actuator failure, replaced under warranty. Creaky drivers seat. Part replaced but started doing it again, and a bad gearbox rattle in neutral which took some fault finding but also sorted under warranty.
  4. Some positive comments there. Thanks. Unfortunately my price range with the trade in from my car, I can't afford the 110 hp but I think the 90 shouldn't be fine for my journeys. I went to look at a very nice quartz grey Monte Carlo on a 66 reg yesterday with the intention of buying it but the salesman pointed across to a couple sat down and said they had just bought it. I was gutted. To make things worse, I checked my emails when I got home and found a message from the dealer saying he had tried to get in touch about the car but my phone number was incorrect. They do have a cheaper 16 reg in black, but I'm just not sure about the colour. I like black cars but they seem to show scratches more.
  5. Hi Fabia guys. I'm considering trading in my 13 plate Octavia 1.4 tsi for a Fabia. I'm off to look at a few this weekend. I've got my sights set on a Monte Carlo. The one I've seen is a 66 plate 90hp version. There is a 110 version also available at the same place but it's £1000 more, so a little out my reach. So I'm looking for some encouraging words regarding the 90hp car. I know performance wise it isn't a match for my car but 90% of my driving is local and commuting through rush hour traffic. Plus I really don't require a larger car anymore. So is there anything I should look out for ?
  6. Further to my problem. The car went in for a diagnostic yesterday. The mechanic said he found an intermittent misfire on number 2 cylinder. Suspected spark plug or coil pack fault. I explained that my car had new plugs fitted just a month ago with its service. So he ordered a coil pack, and is fitting it today. Fingers crossed it will be fixed today.
  7. I think the issue actually started weeks before my service but it was so slight and only noticed in 3rd gear that I thought it was wheel slip on damp roads.
  8. I didn't think the tsi was problematic. I'll get some info on Monday when I take it to this vag specialist. Fingers crossed with it being hesitant under load,it will be a sensor or something. I noticed last night it doesn't do it when I'm stationary and rev the car.
  9. I've just come off the phone with my dealership. I explained my problem and that my warranty expired yesterday. They said they can take a look at it for £97 for an hour then if they find anything, pass the results on to skoda UK to see if they offer anything as a gesture of goodwill. I don't hold much hope for any goodwill gesture so I've booked in at a v.a.g, audi specialist near work on Monday instead. The chap there didn't fill me with confidence saying the 1.4 tsi engines are very problematic.
  10. That's what I was thinking after reading the forums. I noticed driving to work this morning, I'm getting the power loss in 3rd, 4th and 5th from 2 to 4k rpm from mid to full throttle. So it does seem to do it just under load. Sedate driving causes no problems and I rarely ever go above 3500 rpm. Don't usually need to. So I take it an auto technician would be able to find out which one would be at fault.
  11. My car is MY13. It's done 38k miles. It has been main dealer serviced each year. It had its 4th service a month ago which included plugs and air filter plus whatever else they do on a major service. It was carried out at the main dealer, as was the MOT less than 2 weeks ago. On a test drive I'm sure it would be noticeable but it's whether any faults are logged or not, as no warning lights come on when it plays up.
  12. Hi guys. Would you believe it. I'm a day or 2 out of my extended warranty and my 1.4 tsi is acting up. When accelerating with mid to full throttle in 3rd and 4th gear, my car starts sort of jumping like it's going on and off throttle. We're not even talking high revs here. I'd say from about 2 to 4k rpm. I'm getting the feeling it's about to conk out on me. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I'm worried it's going to be one of those costly, ongoing issues that are hard to pin point.
  13. I've just replaced my mirror caps and chrome grille surround with the black magic set on my silver 1.4tsi combi. I did attempt to remove the surround in one piece but that soon failed after realising I couldn't get my Sausage fingers behind the grille, so in the end I pulled it off piece by piece. I'd like the black side decals next and I'd love to do something about the wheels. Maybe black or black & silver wheels but I'm not sure about going up a size to have to replace all the tyres.
  14. It's a MY13 1.4 tsi estate. I've seen brake pads with protruding clips sticking up from the back of the pads and some without.
  15. Can anyone advise me as to which brake pads I need for the front of my MY13 octavia ? When I search for them there appears to be several different types.
  16. To be honest I rarely need to go on the motorway, but when I do its only around the 70 mph Mark. At that I'm easily in the 50's for mpg. My work journey is 13 miles each way through fairly congested traffic. To work i can get mid 40's to low 50's mpg. Yet the journey home I struggle to get above 45 mpg. A
  17. 61 mpg is the best I've had in my 1.4 tsi combi, on a couple of occasions. I've also borrowed my wife's audi A3 2.0 tdi on the odd occasion to work and struggle to beat my cars average mpg. The 1.4 tsi is fantastic.
  18. Thanks for all the advice guys. I think I've decided to keep the octavia. I've owned it for 3 years now and it has been great. The only issues I've had are a charge pressure actuator replacement, creaky drivers seat which still rears it's head from time to time and the old possessed bolero touchscreen which seems to have calmed down. Thinking back to when I changed from a yeti to the octavia, I was very impressed with the quieter ride and better mpg. It is a great car.
  19. I'm looking for a little advice. I own a MY 13 octavia 1.4 tsi combi. I drive roughly 26 miles a day, 5 days a week, driving to work and back. I have to refill my tank every 2.5 weeks or there abouts. So I've been thinking of downsizing to a fabia. Either a 1.2 tsi 110hp or the 1.4 tdi 105hp. The thing is, will I really notice much of an improvement. My journey to work can be fairly congested and I currently can average between 38 to 48 mpg. So I'd hope to see an improvement.
  20. Well I've just compressed a couple of videos I have of the screen going mad which I'll send in an email to my local dealers servicing dept over the weekend.
  21. Picked the car up today. I was told they can't find any problem with it and advised me not to press the screen for a few minutes after I turn the radio on as there could be a delay from pressing the screen to the action because they still insist on start up the car draws power away from the radio to use elsewhere. I explained the screen works by itself without touching it. Incidentally anyone with this issue will find that you can blow on the screen and it thinks you've pressed it, crazy. Anyway I told them I have several videos of the issue so I need to forward them to the service dept. At least today my cold, rattling engine got fixed finally. Replacement clutch plate needed.
  22. Well my car went back in today to get the touchscreen looked at. I was told when I got there that it's normal if it's unresponsive first thing in the morning because the car sends battery power to other systems first which are more important. I smell bull. I told them that it chooses it's own stations and settings and it's also wiped off my stored station logos.
  23. Thankfully I've got a number of videos of the crazy screen behaviour. It happens that often now that I don't turn the radio on for 10 minutes or so now to let the car warm up.
  24. I've got my car booked in again for a fix on my bolero touchscreen. It's already had a new screen last year because it was selecting it's own stations and changing settings by itself. Up until a couple of weeks ago it's been fine but now it's getting colder in the mornings the problem has come back. It's strange how it's always first thing in the morning when the car is cold and it never happens in the warmer months. I can't even change the drive mode when it happens. The strange thing I found was when I blow very gently towards the screen it thinks I've pressed it and starts changing stuff like radio stations. I'm convinced it's something to do with static in the cooler, moister air. I just don't know what a fix could be. On a side note I found that when I videoed the problem you can see the lights emitted from the proximity sensors below the screen which are invisible to the naked eye. Cool.
  25. My 1.4tsi estate averages 40 to 45 mpg on the maxidot on a 13 mile run to work through heavy stop/start traffic. Occasionally I've had 60 mpg. Going home is always worse. Between 35-40 mpg.
