Yeah, I do kind of get the point, but I was always taught mirror and signal were always linked together and that for me at least has always been an automatic thing, you just don't indicate without checking your mirror first to see if it was safe to carry out the intended move. Much same thing as using the clutch when changing gears or pulling away from rest, its one of those operations that require no thought process, like breathing really.
  2. @JR RS, Personally I'd thought it would have been better to over do the badging of the variant of the model rather than the model within the Skoda brand. Anyone who is a car enthusiast is going to instantly know that you are driving a Superb but not the which version of Superb it is? That being said, I like what you have done with it, but equally I'm beginning to see the appeal of debadging as it does mean it is easier to clean.

You might wish to re-read what I posted as that is not what I said at all. If you attempt to cross a white line, with Lane Assist active, without indicating, it will try and resist you crossing the line, not prevent you, but will resist. If however you indicate your intention, then it will de-activate Lane Assist while you cross the line and will then re-activate once you have crossed the line. This is equally true for overtaking and also returning to the slower lane again, attempt such actions without indicating will if you are travelling fast enough, invoke the cars safety system of resisting you. You can always by exerting more force, override it if need be.
  4. Yeah I can see a certain appeal in a Q car, if I could afford one when they being produced, have loved to have had a VW Phaeton as looked a lot like a plain old boring Passat to most people, while it was almost a Bentley under the skin.

And how would/could you possibly know that your style of driving is actually saving more fuel than stop/start could. Besides that is not the point and is just simply not enough to argue against having the stop/start system active because it is a fact that while your engine is running while stationary in a traffic jam, at traffic lights etc is wasteful of fuel is therefore costing you money. I have been driving for far longer than you have and equally certain that my driving style is also very economical, but why not add to that economy by using stop/start system, especially when it has been proven to actually save you fuel, thus money? Never driven over white lines unintentionally, I seriously doubt that and you could never ever be certain that you haven't either, all you do know is that you are still breathing and able to claim that you have never done so.

Rather obvious really, Lane assist helps to keep you within your lane and safe by trying to prevent you from accidentally crossing the white line into another lane and maybe into the path of another vehicle which could result in an accident. It also teaches you proper to use signals and mirrors effectively. If you signal your intention to change lanes, the lane assist is de-activated and will not intervene because your changing lanes on purpose. If you don't signal, it therefore assumes that are doing so unintentionally and is trying to possibly safe your life, that is very useful. Stop Start is likewise trying to save you money and help to reduce harmful emissions, all modern cars have it and it is part of the emission control system required by the EURO engine categories in order to help with reducing the climate change problems.

Lane assist on the Superb is neither annoying or dangerous as it does not cause the steering to vibrate as it did on the Qashqai. Stop Start does help to reduce emissions and enhance your mpg figures, it is at times annoying when it stops, just as the car in front pulls away and you take time starting again. I now leave mine on all the time, it's good for the planet.
  8. Why would you want to debadge it? I know mine has been done by the previous owner, but I am considering restoring the L&K on the wings at least, it might affect it's resale value.
  9. Welcome to the future, it's looking bleak. I think it's time they left ice cars alone, or maybe restrict engine size and admit that real problem is industry and natural gas burning.
  10. Further to the postings above regarding EV's and their storage after an accident, while awaiting repair etc, I have dug these documents up, which re-enforce the claims. Damaged electric cars ‘quarantined’ over fears they will explode (telegraph.co.uk) recovery-_operators-working-with-electric-vehicles.pdf
  11. Yup, it could well mean if your EV is over a year old, it stands a high chance of being written off.
  12. It seems that EV cars might well be behind the huge insurance hikes after all, Thoughts?
  13. Mine can draw 20A as its a twin cylinder pump so it has to clipped directly onto the battery, but I must say that I'm very happy with it as got it at a bargain price of less than £15 at the time IIRC.
  14. Problem as I see it is that they are pretty big to carry in the boot and they are also way more expensive than a decent 12v compressor.
  15. Maybe, but mine has a proper old school analogue pressure gauge and I've had it a number of years now and always works well.
  16. Nah, I use a cheap electric one I got a good deal on, its a twin cylinder pump with a light to help when using it at night, has a nice long curly hose and a pressure gauge built in. It makes short work of pumping tyres up and comes attachments for other things like footballs, airbeds etc, great investment. Going to a garage these days to pump a tyre up will around here cost you at least £1 for about 5 minutes time on the pump. What is even more painful, is that many of these garages now have pumps that will only operate once you have swiped your debit card. We are heading into a cashless society real soon.
  17. Perhaps you might post some details here if you know them?
  18. Yes, it was a complete new headlamp unit and that was very expensive I was told that it was about £700 trade, but for a single unit it is probably even dearer but the dealer tells me that they got deal because he also had to replace the N/S rear lamp cluster and he was cheeky 😉 enough to ask if he could get a deal by buying both items. So unless you are able to get a trade deal I would expect that you'd be looking at something around £1000 per headlamp? Now is an interesting fact, I just Googled to see if you was put your car in an MOT test with the DRL's not working, would it pass or be a failure, and the answer is it would be a pass if your car was registered before 1st March 2018. 19. Don't know for sure but that would appear to me to be just the standard tint, it was the sunlight striking full onto the front that made it appear darker.
  20. I have had the same warning flash up 3 times in about a week recently, tried looking in the owners handbook and there is not a single mention of it in there, very useful indeed. In every case I already had the situation well under control so I have no idea just what the system was thinking at the time, I was almost stationary when it flashed up and I had a good couple of car lengths gap between me and the car in front? I also had lately the rear assist zones light up, but the car behind was a distance behind me. So does that also operate on the rate of their approach and give a warning if it thinks that a collision might occur? I just found this video online which explains the front assist and many others as well. Škoda Kamiq - Videos (skoda-auto.com)

Well, I had a Nissan Qashqai as loan car while mine was being assessed, I had it for 2 months and I would say that the level of interaction with that was dangerous at least for the first few times of it kicking in, completely the opposite to how the system operates on my current car. Given the state of Britain's roads at the moment, when the Qashqai system kicked in it would vibrate and the feel of that is similar to driving on a really rough road with loads of smaller potholes so you tend to grip the wheel firmer. Then the car would make violent course corrections to try and keep you in lane, which has the effect of the driver then starts to fight it and the car can be seen wobbling as the driver and the system battle each other. Once you are aware of it and how to set it up, you can disable the vibration and then it makes more sense as it will still steer you back into lane safely and because you are not then confusing it with bad road surface, takes control of the steering smoothly, just as it does in the Superb.
  22. I may do that when the undertray arrives, or I may just get my dealer to order one for me, if I need to order the fixings for the tray, its not important for now.
  23. Looks like some sort of moth that has been attacked, part of its left wing is missing. Beautiful camouflage though.
  24. Thank you that endorsement, the world is full of rip off merchants and people like Radford's should be supported and highlighted, the world needs more good guys like them.
  25. Wow, what dammed good customer service, last night I emailed the dealer and asked about the missing engine undertray as they had done, prior to me purchasing the car, a cambelt change, water pump at the same time as Skoda recommend, a full engine service along with a DSG gearbox service and oil change, a new N/S headlamp replacement as the DRL had packed up (Xenon) and a new replacement N/S rear lamp unit, lens had been broken, new discs and pads all round. My thinking was that they had to remove the undertray in order to carry out the engine service etc and might simply have forgotten to replace it afterwards, so I asked them if it was laying around in their service bay someplace at all. This morning I received a nice email back saying that they had checked all of their records and discovered that they had received the car minus the tray when they purchased the car from Skoda fleet operations and as a gesture of goodwill, they were ordering one from an aftermarket supplier and having it delivered to me at home, a 145 miles away from them in Mansfield. What brilliant customer service and it is real treat it is to deal with a reputable dealer, especially after coming across their complete opposite in Heathrow, who even wanted me to buy a car with a huge crack in the windscreen and claim a replacement on my insurance, err, no way it was a MOT failure and a major safety hazard. So if anyone is looking for a decent 2nd hand Skoda, I can 100% recommend you check out the dealer where I got mine from, they buy lots of cars from Skoda leasing and always seem to have plenty of stock on hand, their details are: Radford Motor Sales Ltd, 337A Nottingham Road, Mansfield, NG18 4SG. Tel. 01623 652004 www.radfordsgarage.co.uk I'm glad I discovered them.
