Sport springs

Featured Replies

Since with the current factory suspension system, the car's road behaviour is way too far from a sports suspension, i'm considering replacing the springs(low budget doesn't allow me to replace the whole system). What i'm looking for is a lowering sports spring(30 to 50mm) and the questions are as follows :

- Are sports springs fully compatible with stock damper ?

- Is it worth to change only the springs ?

- Assuming we're looking at a sports suspension system, how much from the road behaviour(in %) comes to the spring and how much(%) to the damper ?

- Would i get any troubles from changing only the springs(ex : rim degradation from bad road quality) ?

The springs i'm looking at till now are KW and H&R. Do u have any recommandations ?

Thanx !

Hmm. Don't know if anyone has played around with the Superb on the suspension front. Jon (TaviaRS) may have an idea as he was tinkering about getting a Superb IIRC.

Whoops, just realised you have an octy. Hmm. Just sit back and wait for the post-flooding - lots of options and experienced people will no doubt raise their voice :)

You may want to edit your profile to reflect the fine motor you have ;)

I would go with KW V3 and may be linear springs as opposed to progressive.

Quite pleased with mine.....suspension did well at recent handling day.

My springs have settled down now so I need to raise the height a bit more, which should allow me to harden the bump and rebound settings a little more.

Is your profile actually correct, fuscobal?

Edit: *sigh* just answered my own question. Sorry.

I'm sure we used to have a delete post button. Maybe it has been replaced with a "think before posting" feature which I haven't installed yet? Where can I download it from?

Already found the answer to one question on KW site :

KW suspensions lowering springs can lower cars up to 60 mm. In addition to the optical improvement, the lower centre of gravity adds more agility and driving fun.

Lowering springs of up to 40 mm can be used with conventional absorbers. We recommend the use of sport shock absorbers; for greater degrees of lowering, they are required by law.

Another question would be if i can lower the front and rear by different amounts (30mm front/40mm rear let's say)

Hi Fuscobal

Jus changing springs in my opinion is not recommended.

As u say the Octavia is far from sporty and this is due mainly to the soft dampers.

There will b a few folk on this forum who can guide u as they have changed there suspension.

I'm looking into purchasing FK Automotive suspension as it seems very good value. And i've heard good reports about there stuff.

Check them out at: www.fkautomotive.de

There website has no prices so u ill hav to find a local supplier.

It's logical that sports springs work best with sports dampers but 200E(only the springs) doesn't compare to 1000E(entire suspension system). I was thinking of getting the springs first and maybe in a few month the dampers also !

this is mine with the kw v2 suspension

the ride is a big improvment over standard, and yes you can lower the front more than the back. Each corner is individually adjustable.
