Hello to all and a few questions...

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

Im Vince in North London and I have just bought a 1.6 P reg felicia to use as a cheap runaround.

So far im very happy with it but have two worrying little problems that I hope maybe people can help with.

Firstly the odometer stopped working shortly after I bought it when I pressed the reset button, the speedo still works as well as the rest of the dashboard instruments.

The second and more serious problem is that there is a chip in the winscreen that is probably only about 3mm in diameter but it has two small lines that go off on each side that make a diameter of about 12/13mm, which given that 10mm is the MOT limit within the drivers eye line it could require a new windscreen. Any advice on leniancy by MOT people or how much I could get a replacement windscreen for? Im TPFT only so insurance is no good.

Also on a less serious note can anyone recommend a replacement air filter?

Thanks for any advice,

Vince

As far as the filter goes, get a K&N replacement.

I ran one in mine, great addition to it.

Some insurers let you add windscreen cover on TPFT, mine does for £15. Otherwise cheapest option is probably to look for a good scrap windscreen. A Favorit one should fit too, but will be a different colour glass I believe.

It is possible your odometer did not work before resetting it. You might be able to get a good instrument cluster from a scrap yard, or you may be able to get the speedo clock from dealers or Jorily Skoda on ebay.

Are you 100% sure the chip is in the drivers line of vision, it is a very narrow band, only about 30cm wide directly centred on the steering wheel.

* Damage larger than 10mm will fail in the drivers line of vision. Marked Zone "A"

* Damage larger than 40mm will fail in the rest of the swept area Marked Zone "B"

* Significant scratching that impairs the drivers vision

Do you get a click from the instrument panel when driving? We find, very occasionally, that pushing the reset button leaves the spin dials in just fractionally the wrong position, and you can hear the mechanism not quite engaging on every appropriate turn. By pushing the reset button again firmly (but not overly so) it clears it. (We know this because we religiously reset the odometer for every tankful of fuel. I'm off to get a life now!)

Best wishes,

Mr Music

Hi, thanks for the advice so far!

About the click - strangly yes I have noticed there is definitly a clicking sound coming from the dash and it only happens when moving and not stationary- I thought it was just some trim rattling but I guess it could be the odometer - any advice on how to fix it? Ive pressed the reset button a fair amount with no result, maybe I will try when moving.

The damage to the windscreen is almost directly above the steering wheel so its definitly in the A zone in the diagram.

Try pulling the reset button out of the dashboard, rather than pressing it in.

Also remember that a working odometer (surely only the trip function?) isn't actually compulsory.

Will have a go tonight and see what happens. Its the trip function and the total mileage that dont work, so not compulsary but essential for servicing/resale etc

Ref Windscreen:-

If your Insured Fully Comp then the Windscreen can be repaired F O C. We had one repaired by Auto Glass and you just need to show them your insurance details and they bill your insurance company and it does not affect your no claims bonus............Hope this Helps

Im TPFT only, and I cant get glass cover without going to fully comp (which is basically what I will do if it fails the MOT)

I have had to fork out on a few screens on Felicia's. They cost me £120 brand new with fitting at the garage I go to.

It might be worth going fully comp if it doesn't cost you too much - I am probably going to do this.
