Hi folks my felicia lxi estate 96 needs a new exhaust middle and back box. Would you recommend a diy job or a garage. Bearing in mind

I have no pit to work in so it would be an axle stand jobbie. What would be a ballpark figure i would be looking at for a garage to do it.

Simply because if its not cost effective to do it myself I wont get involved cos i am a softie and i dont like spanner rash lol

i wouldn't go lifting a cat out (depeding on how much you're taking out!) without a proper lift. back box pipe runs above the axle so that can be an awkward fit.

i'd estimate about 2-3 hours to do the job, and there will be a minimum of 3 seized bolts. you're looking £60-£210 for a garage to do it - just labour...

A garage near me would do centre and rear exhaust for just under £80 for both including parts fitting and VAT. If you're anywhere near Leeds I'll give you their details, otherwise it's a case of getting the phonebook and searching for garages on the net etc and calling for quotes.

When I can get exhausts fitted at the price above I can't get the parts alone much cheaper so mayaswell leave it to them to sort out

:iagree: - the last time I, or any of my mechanic mates, installed a standard system must have been about 1980. Since then "fast fit" places have offered an installed system for less than you could get parts out a factor! Also, with a lift, it really shouldn't take much over an hour to do a system; less if you've got a gas axe to cut it over axles and the like.

i paid £80 for a new middle and rear section fitted. Labour part of that was £15 so no point in farting around with a gas torch struggling with seized bolts.

Shop was in Gateshead

I paid £90 for the whole exhaust for my 1.3 LX. (excluding cat).
