Powerbox, does it work???

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Just wondered if anyone out there had ever tried one of these and if so what sort of results did you get?

Maybe i'm a bit cynical but it seems a bit too cheap and easy to see any worthwhile improvement.I have a vRS Octavia at the minute, but as I change company cars very often (Horrendous mileage!) I was thinking about a 130PD Octy next time, and thought I'd like to uprate it a bit but need something swappable between cars and most importantly, removeable if anything goes wrong!

Any opinions would be welcome, many thanks

Thanks Quinten,

Can't believe I didn't think of running a search on here, I'll put it down to being a newbie!!! :)

If the box your on about is the EVY mod for the PD diesels that bypasses the fuel temp sensor then yes it does work. I have one but don't have it fitted anymore. I ran mine for about 2K miles. Everything running OK and enjoying the performance increase then the ECU, ignition light came on. Booked it into the dealers and as I expected the ECU light was due to this tuning box bypassing the fuel temp sensor. ECU must of thought theirs something not right here as for the last 2K miles the fuel temp has been the same. The dealer just reset the fault code and fitted a new senosr.

Do you know if it damaged the fuel temp sensor which is why they replaced it? If it simply bypassed it the fault code can just be reset with VAG-COM every so often? :D

Good point Chris,

I can live with the light coming on every so often as I am lucky and have access to a VAS5051.

I suppose no-one would be able to tell you had a tuning box anyway as all fault diagnosis would point to a sensor fault.

I think I might give it a try for

Chris, Yes the fault code can just be reset using Vag-Com. The tuning box does no harm to the car (that i know off). Its just the ECU knows somethings not right. The dealer only repaced the sensor as a precaution. What they don't know wont hurt them :D

Let's hope they don't read public BBS's ;):D

A useful discussion there. So the mod definitely produces more soot, and any other gains are in the mind of the driver ............ :(

Yeah it's far from definative, Still I suppose twenty four quid for a psychological advantage still isn't bad value for money!! :)

Would you trust a company that can't even spell Golf they spelt it like "Gulf" !!!!!

All tuning boxes will produce more soot as they basically overfuel.....the same will be true of the Jabba booster for the PDs.....
