Irish Garda Octy II

Recommended Posts

Just spotted a 2006 Dublin reg Octy II in navy. Twas in garda (police) mode, ie he had pulled someone in. Light was failing so wasn't sure if it was a vRS but I'd assume it was.

Spotted on the road from Castleblayney to Ardee. Didn't know the Irish cops had 'em, thought all they used were Toyota Camrys, Ford Mondeos and the like. Anyone seen this before?

No, the last time I had a "road-side conference" with the lads in their natty little navy-blue fleeces they were in a '07 D-reg Vectra with bee-sting aerials all over the roof. I wanted to count them but I also wanted to appear very interested in "the lecture" and interject "Yes Guard", "No Guard" at appropriate times.

I was in Portugal last week and the cops were uning Mark IIs

I live in south of Portugal and yes, here the have one unmarked, dark grey Octy2 estate. It is in use manly as radar as it has advantage to catcs vehicles comming from the back of their car and in the same time others comming opposite way. Up to date Garda here (called GNR) couldn't in the same time catch vehicles driving both ways. Now this one can.

I heard some people say they do and some say the don't have a vRS in Monaghan (IIRC someone told me they took some of the kit off it to look more standard). They "did" have one AFAIK in Mayo. There was definitely one on loan around the country but I dunno how many were bought.

Was it vRS Blue or another type of Blue ?

Twas a dull navy colour. Cover in bee sting antennae on the back with full flashing kit in the light clusters and on the back sill.

Don't the Italians have a Lamborghini Gallardo?

Maybe they'd be interested in coming on the next 'Ring trip an' give us an escort - if they can keep up. At least they'd have radios that work - my LIDL motorbike ones were 5h17e.
