PD160 at MOT time

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Just a quick querie, I've got a pd160 on the vRS and it was noticed my car was a smoky beast the other night on the briskoda road trip. Just wondering come MOT time in a few weeks time if it is worth removing this and fitting the old one back on for the MOT or is it ok to leave this on.

Hope you can help.

Davy

If anything it should smoke less with it on.

Check you air filter and run a bottle of Forte through it.

Cheers mate, think I will pop down to Halfords and pick some up.

No, millers is little m ore than a cetane booster. Forte is effectively a cleaner

Forte

It's about the best you can get. Most effective way of using it is to remove your fuel filter, empty the diesel out, replace with the forte and refit. Pour whatever is left in the tank and give it a good run. It will reduce smoking.

I also doubt Halfords will stock it. It is likely that your dealer might though. I get mine from a Fiat dealer

thanks mate, it prob does need a good run as well.

Skoda dealers even stick this in diesel cars when servicing (although they insist no additives should be added - lying monkeys)

Cheers Jason. I'm not very technical but where can I find the fuel filter?

Bottom left hand corner of the engine bay behind drivers side headlight. if your not confident in doing this run the tank down as low as you dare then put the bottle in the tank, do a few miles then fill up as normal.

Thanks Decron- thinks thats what I might do

It's not hard to find - it's roughly the size and shape of a Coke can, with various pipes going in and out of the top. And like Decron also said, the PD160 will make it smoke less if everything. Sounds like it needs a good run to blow out of the cobwebs. You need to get it near the redline on several occasions to make sure everything's opened up and aired...

Yeah I admit I don't give it as much stick as I should ie red line etc.

Just ordered a bottle of FORTE off ebay, £7.50 delivered, our furby could do with the cobwebs blown off so will use this just before.

Cheers

You don't need to thrash it just give it a good run

it got a run friday night but it was a bit stop start but SWMBO was driving a bit miss daisy!

Good point - I'm not talking clutch-dumping starts, just accelerate as normal but leave changing up until the revs are at least past 4000...

ah got you now!

We dont use it jase

We dont use it jase

One dealership does to my knowledge. I'll not tarnish any reputations though

Captiol does!

Captiol does!

Yes they do and they are a dealer I hold in high regard.

Me too :)

We dont use it jase

Neither did we. In thoery invalidates warranty.

You might wanna check your air filter too......

If it's clogged up with crap then even though you've got a PD160 intake fitted, the engine won't be getting the benefit.

A new air filter is iro £10 and probably worth swapping if your car hasn't been serviced for a while (i know the recommended interval is something like 12,000 miles but when i changed mine last week it was caked in crap and bits of dead leaves!!!!!)
