Octy creaks and buzzes

Featured Replies

Hi all,

with the warm weather we have been enjoying recently, has anybody experienced any cabin noises appearing?

My Octy has suddenly sprouted numerous creaking and buzzing sounds especially when going over rougher roads. Unless it is snooker ball smooth tarmac, there tends to be some minor creak or buzz from somewhere. Even got a loud creak from my steering column whenever I have the indicator on and I'm turning left!!!!! It's really spoiling my experience of the car which I think drives really well. Think I may turn to the dealer but not that confident in their ability to sort things out.

Press the centre airvent plastic surround under the Hazard button, its that the noise you get?

No, unfortunately not. Weird thing is that if you press the trim and centre console, it all feels robust and solid but I think it is something behind the console.

The creaking in the steering column I will have to get the dealer to look at. Must be something on the indicator which is rubbing when it is in the indicating right position.

Got a rattle coming from behind the ashtray/aircon controls/stereo area whenever I let the engine revs go too low and there are low level vibrations from the engine.

Also get a slight noise coming from the door to C-Pillar area right behind my right ear!! Usually on slightly rough surface roads. Just spoils the experience so much!!

I had a buzz from around the ashtray area of the centre console. A few judiciously placed cocktail sticks solved the problem. I pushed them into the gap and snapped off the ends. Completely unnoticable and no annoying buzzzzzzzzz!

Yep, hot weather brings out the noises. Mine's a creaking, coming from the overhead light/suglasses holder fitting in the rooflining...

Mine has got the usual creaks and buzzing noises but more annoyingly its developed a whirring noise from the rear. Sounds like rear wheel bearings, its only done 27K.

Check That Rear Tyres Not Mis-shaped As This Will Make Same Noise As Wheel Bearing

Damn, beat me to it! (by several hours ).

Check for chunks out of the tread on the inner side of the wheel. As andrew said, can sound exactly like a wheel bearing issue.

Will have to pull the wheels off and have a look over them. I do mostly motorway miles so they shouldnt be mis shaped but thanks for the advice. It does seem to be getting worse though, or maybe its just me noticing it more.

Good call on the tyres. Took them off today and found they are wearing unevenly. It seems they are wearing on the inside on the N/S and wearing on the outside on the /OS.

Getting the alignment checked out at Skoda then some new boots I think.

Why would it wear like that ?

Mine has the same problem and I know where it is comming from.

It's comming from all doors rubber seals.

I'm still working on solution. So far, tried silicone lubricant and noise was gone for day or two. Then tried vaseline lubricant, no change at all.

Next step will be to wash with soap all rubber seals, places on the car body where they touch when doors are closed, and those round rubber bumpers on lower part of the doors. After everything was dry well, I'll use baby powder all over to dry them as much as possible.

Problem is friction between rubber seals and painted metal body. When you press two palms of your hands to each other and try to move them oposite ways, you'll feel the friction. If you do it after putting baby powder on them, you'll feel no friction at all.

I know there are modified rubber seals at the dealer, but they say mines are already of those (2006).

Worth to try, I don't know if will work.

Drive a Vauxhall for a few weeks, then you'll know about creaks and buzzes.

Dropped mine at the dealer to investigate the funny rear tyre wear. They said the rear wheels where out of alignment, the OSR was at 10 (I assume degrees) and the NSR at 5. Seemingly they should be 9. I didnt know you could adjust the rear wheels for camber, castor, toe in/out etc. ?

Anyway I have it re aligned and new tyres fitted and alls well again. Till something else goes wrong.

Not in my Zafira! No creaks and buzzes ever, and I've had it for five years now...

I had similar niggles with my first one which was a 2005 1.9 TDi, dashboard creaks, buzzes, electric window squeels, buzzing drivers door, suspension creaks. Each time I took it back to the dealer they managed to sort them out, to the extent of removing the dashboard on one ocassion.

With my replacement late 2007 I have not had any problems at all so far, I think they have addressed many niggles with the feedback from most of my warranty work !!
