Buying an Octavia TDi - advice pls

90bhp or 130bhp TDi? Which should I go for and why?

130bhp engine is a PD engine and is a new design and very tunable - think Jon's running over 200bhp with his. 90bhp is a little sluggish and is a non-PD engine. Depends what you're after - think the 90bhp is more economical?

Chris

Have you test driven both? I have borrowed a 130 for a couple of nights and can say that it's really rather good, but I can't compare it to the 90.

Make sure you get a good test of both, and compare economy. I don't expect that service costs should vary much between the engines but you might want to check.

Good luck

Skoda Business etc quote servicing costs over 75,000 miles of

My Dad's got the 90 bhp Octavia and it is not bad. Sure it's not a performance car but it is a good workhouse and the 90bhp engine is powerful enough for most uses. It's economy is superb too, much better than the PD engines for example I have seen 70mpg average on the car after a drive at a steady speed.

i've got the 110bhp octavia TDI - and am V happy with it - excellent fuel economy, and nice bit of grunt under the foot when its needed

I had an Octy in 90 hp TDI form for 4.5 years, then chopped it for the Superb with pd130.

The 90 tdi is smoother and probably quieter especially at tickover, but the pd130 is so much better for getting a move on....even in the Superb.

As for economy, you can get real good figures out of it with an Octy ( we used to get 44 round town and up to 69 on a long run).

If you allow for the bigger car, the pd130 equpped Superb is getting around 35 overall round town and 50-58 on a run.

What you must ask yourself is will you make use of the extra horses, or be tempted to. If the answer is yes, then go tdi90. If you can resist the temptation to have fun without be silly then all the time then go pd130.

The tdi90 is a good round town engine, but for that extra zip and go the pd130 is better by miles.

If you check the official fuel cons figures you will see there isnt to much difference, it will be how you use it that will make the difference.

Me...I would go pd130 no question.

You sure it's that way round, Andy? ;)

Having driven both - use to have an octy (110 non-PD engine) and now having an L&K estate with PD130, the PD is a more involving engine - you will get more oomph out of it, but the 110 or 90 is smoother with less grunt, but more relaxed ride imho.

But best is as other people have mentioned : try both

Having just returned a Pd130 engined Passat.......

I'm going to say 130PD all the way,

The 90 isn't a bad engine, as folds say, on tickover it does come across as a far more subtle operator (The 130 sounds like an industrial generator and a bag of nails IMHO)

But moving it's a different story - the 130 propels at warp speed, while the 90 is a bit more relaxed.

Mind you, given I usually drive a petrol (115bhp) the torque of any of the diesels is an eye opener..

Why not get the 110?

If you are in the market for a 130PD, i've got an Elegence Estate in stone grey, reg Jan 04 with only 5000 miles, that i'm selling for only

Having Had 2 90 BHP Octy Diesel, ( now the very proud owner of Furby vRS ) , the fact I have had 2 summerizes wot I think of it.

I do 21K Motorway miles p.a. this was an excellen car ( specially with cruise fitted )

Would highly recommend the 90 in this case.

Kind offer, thanks - but the dealer will do a brand new Ambiente SE with 0% finance over three years for just

Well, the old man picked up his brand new Skoda Octavia Ambiente SE from the dealer, two days ago. :D

He went for the 90bhp 210Nm 1.9 TDi - I had a drive of it today and I am impressed. This car is plently fast enough for him - it is no slouch. Makes me want to test drive the 130bhp 310Nm model :D

Oops...

They just chopped 9% off the price of the Original Octy...

Why not get the 110?

Is the 110 not discontinued? I thought it was and the 90 replaced the SDi which is also discontinued?
