Fabia - doorcards don't fit over golf mk4 speaker adaptors...

Featured Replies

Got a 56 reg fabia vRS, golf mk4 16.5cm front speaker adaptors, they fit onto the door panel fine, and the speakers fit them alright, but the doorcard won't go back on totally flush, managed to shove it all together bit there's a 5mm gap at one point at the front of the card, and of course not all of the clips for the doorcard will stay in. Also i seem to have lost a hell of a lot of bass, used the speaker wire adaptors that came with the kit, tested polarity. can't see anywhere that the cones are hitting the doorcards too. Might have to sound deaden the doors, grr.

I'm disappointed and annoyed, knew i should have left it alone, was a bit of a ballache changing them.

Anyone else have similar problems?

Although you have checked the polarity, try reversing one speaker and see what happens to the sound.

That wouldn't be easy, done the easy check, changing balance to one side, and the bass gets no better, if the phase was wrong on one side, checking the balance would have made it really bassy either side but not in the centre, but alas no.

Gonna have to whip the doorcards off again, might rivet the standard speakers back in if i can't work it out.

The lack of bass is worrying. Midbass rather than sub-bass in the Fabia/Ibiza/Polo is one of the good points. My car certainly produces enough of it.

I've got a similar front setup. Plastic spacers, 6.5" speakers. I've had to re-locate some self adhesive foam strip thing about 5-10mm further down the door card as that was mis-shaping the cone surrounds on my mids.

I'd check the wiring and run the system with the door cards off to see if there's a marked difference.

I'll have to do that, need to take the doorcards off again to replace those dodgy plastic clips anyway as of course i broke a few of them.

They're infinity speakers and were brand new when i fitted them, gave them some time to "run in" as well. I think either i'm not getting a properly sealed door, letting the other phase through which cancels the bass out, or the speaker is hitting the doorcard, or both. I removed the foamy stuff on one side, will do the other soon.

Which infinity speakers did you buy out of interest? I was thinking of buying some myself!

Make some thinner spacers with MDF, sound better than plastic spacers anyhow.

If the cone is touching the cover then you will lose your bass.

What Infinitys? If they're Perfect 6.1 or 5.1, forget it. They're not rated to produce much in the way of bass. Almost any others though, I'd say should work well.

One other thing guaranteed to kill mid-bass is if you've got one of the 6's out of phase with the other. I know because I tried to see if it helped the system. Erm.... it did, it killed all of my midbass. :(
