Bolt missing

Featured Replies

Sorry for the long post.

Today my Fabia had a trip to the dealers regarding my grinding noise under hard acceleration. This happens at low speeds and apeared at the recent Briskoda handling day. Also before the handling day I noticed a clonking noise when pressing the clutch pedal down. Could these be related?

So at the dealers the engineer and I went for a road test. Pulled out of the junction slowly then when the car was straight I booted it all the way to 3rd gear not going over 3000rpm in each gear. The engineer was not impressed. And his first answer to solving the problem was "don't drive it like that" to which I reply'd "Its a vRS"

Back at the dealers it was explained to me that if they do found a problem and its because of the way I drive it then the warranty wont cover it blah blah. Anyway they looked at it and came back saying they couldn't find anything wrong. See how it goes, if it gets worse bring it back.

Not conviced with the outcome I seeked a second opinion. Off to dealer number 2 :D Same story with the road test. Engineer not impressed with driving style and then went on to tell us the only other problem they've seen with a vRS was a chipped one that had killed the flywheel. I wonder who that was? :D Anyway they took it into the garage for a quick look. After a few mins I was asked if I'd had any aftermarket work done to which I said no. He then says, "theirs a bolt missing from one of the engine mounts" Their fitting another one but they've ordered a new engine mount from Skoda.

After driving the car home I noticed the clonking noise when pressing the clutch pedal down had gone. So how long have I been driving with a bolt missing from the engine mount  And why didn't the first dealer notice it  And why the **** did it fall out

And why the **** did it fall out

Perhaps it was frightened.

Bit of a crap response from the dealer though.

 FFS! You better check the small print of your warranty to make sure that you comply with Skoda's recommended driving style - lol. Glad you got it sorted though. :)

What dealer - AL??

First dealers was AL. I've delt with them before and they've been great but this time I was not impressed. I got the impression from the engineer that because of the way I drove it they were not interested. I'm sorry but if your not allowed to put your foot down from 1.5K to 3K then whats the point of a sports model.

Yes Tim it was the tall rake old guy. lol He was not impressed at all when I booted it. He even asked if I would take it easy back to the garage. LOL

Dealer number 2 has put a bolt back in but have ordered a new engine mount. They'll let us know when they get it. Was thinking in going back to AL sometime and tell them my findings.

Still at least you know when you drop the car off there, they're not going to rag it ;) Didn't realise 130bhp could be so scary

I'm sure I heard a story once of an Alfa dealer who had a customer complaining of a noise. They could trace it but it happens at 'motorway speeds'. Guy and mechanic went on a test drive, where guy drove at over 100mph on the motorway to provioe this noise. Mechanic asked they guy to pull over and got the bus back to the dealer.

On a similar vein..... I got *******ed by a customer the other day....... for driving TOO SLOW!! -- you won't get it to do it at this bloody speed - put your foot down!!

Not something you should tell someone in the motor trade - we have to road test modes - customer on board and YAHOOOOOOO (within speed limits of course ;) )

When my goes in for a service the boys queue up for the road test!!!! The wifes does about 2 miles on tthe road test, mines never less than 10!!!!!

.......... and YAHOOOOOOO (within speed limits of course ;) )

Yeah right. I believe you - let's start a poll and see if anyone else does :D

did the dealer mention where the vrs with the flywheel replacement came from? i had to have my flywheel replaced and it's still not perfectly right. it has to go back when i get a week free.

I assumed it was yours Tom. Gorner Warrington? The guy said it wasen't a warranty job as the car had been chipped and that the owner wasen't too pleased.

As both dealers were ready to blame the fault on my driving style (using full throttle between 1.5K and 3K) then they should have in small print next to the 0-60mph time on the specs "If you attempt to achieve this then your warranty is void"

My octy is in next week for some warranty work, they know whats been done to my car and to date dont have a problem with it. They have also seen some of the brunters pics, so know its tracked to.
