Bored of my scud, help me...

A fabia is never going to be a hot hatch. It's a warm hatch for the average motorist.

It feels fast, but corners badly.

Panda 100 or a mini are great fun for throwing the car around and at opposite ends of the price range too.

i could probably find a whole load of folk who could say after a little time in mine round a track it is certainly a hot hatch, and quite a few performance car owners who would agree too.

I'd say that with a remap, anti roll bar, 312mm brakes and possibly uprated springs and dampers its definitely a hot hatch... maybe not one of the fastest hot hatches but still a hot hatch

warm hatch as standard

Have to say if you've already started looking nothing is going to change your mind. Once you have sub consciously decided you don't like it, you'll never like it again. I started to think about other cars when I had my Smart Roadster Brabus. From thinking to trading it in took 2 days.

Now I'm really glad I did as I love my Skoda.

I would agree. In it's prime mine Pwned a lot of other cars on track

I thought hot hatches are all about fun? The Fabia certainly provides plenty of that. :D

I have to reply to your post as I was in exactly the same situation as yours. I did not like the car to drive at all, it was jerky, did not feel that powerful but really enjoyed the seating position and the overall looks of it.

I was even thinking about the new Punto and Sharkrider (I think was his name) had many a PM from me asking how he liked his car.

However another member had his car remapped and was well chuffed with it, so many PM's later I decided to bite the bullet and what a difference it made. I went with Angel Tuning and the car has never been happier. Smooth as hell, no jerkyness and loads of power. You get a discount if you work for the armed services, ambulance or police and they come to your door.

If it was not for Angel Tuning I would have lost a great deal of money and would have lost a good car, get it remapped mate, you won't be sorry and you will never think of another car again.

Not really as Skoda intended it to be though is it. Anything can be improved.

There is another thought. Do you actually know how to drive it?

What's all this talk of warrenty? Never heard of it ;) Warranty however ......

On a serious note, your car looks mint, kudos for looking after it. I love mine and in fact, enjoy it more than the 111s I had.

I've found the brakes to be adequate, i don't drive it hard as such, i don't use the power much, my trip2 mpg is 62.6 at the moment, only ever average under 60mpg per journey if going on the motorway. Hopefully a remap wouldn't affect that as long as i don't use the extra power much. It would be good to have it when i need it. Is it sad to say that i've not used full throttle in 1st gear yet, nor have i taken it over 4k rpm, and even then seeing 4k is very rare. Think cornering is the one thing that gets to me, i drive down a very twisty A road to work and back every day, i need more involvement. I really like the steering on the fabia, all of the other "modern" cars i've driven have stupidly overassisted lifeless steering, a major part of driving for me is the feel and the fabia does it well, the brakes aren't overassisted either.

It's not that i dislike the car, i just can't seem to bond with it lol

I think the fabia is the best car I have owned, my first car was a micra and kept it for three years until 2004 then bought another micra which I kept for a year and a half was unhappy with it and then bought a focus which I was happy with for a year and a half then bought the fabia and have never looked back.

I can see myself keeping this car maybe 4 years and then looking around in the skoda range to see what else I can buy!

Think you need to get it remapped, strut brace, pd160 and filter ARB and you will feel the diffrence.

you won't see 60mpg with a remap, my trip 2 computer says 43mpg usually.

most i ever see is 50mpg if i tickle the accelerator driving to work in constant slow moving traffic, or am going through 50mph motorway roadworks in 6th gear. mid 40's are more realistic.

I think AlexR has made up his mind already.

It took me a few months to bond with mine (ok so it's not a VRS)

When I first bought it (without looking) I was dissappointed at first to see the wheel arches rusting but it was quite fun to work on the car and use spray paint.

Its got character though.

I think I was like that as well when I bought the Fabia yeah it was quick but beacuse I was a ford man before I thought it had something missing, but over the last few months I've really got to like the car, loving the fuel economy, seeing what yiou can do to it and building relationships with people on here.

I think when I get my next car I will prob not like it at first because I will prob base my experiance on the vRS and how much I enjoyed driving that.

Yeah but i bet you drive like a madman Adam :P Surely it shouldn't make any difference at part throttle, it's only when you use the extra power that mpg suffers. If i wanted 40mpg i'd get a petrol turbo, and because petrol is cheaper i'd only need to do 35mpg to get the same fuel price per mile, then if i sacrifice 5mpg i could have a megane 225, corsa vxr, clio 197 etc etc...

Problem being if i want to change cars i have to mess about with finance, or get a loan to pay the finance off and px/sell the fabia to get something else. A lot of hassle. Gonna give it a few more months at least!

I think that you should keep the car... Then when the warranty does run out - Use the ideas that people have suggested on here for more power or just to change the look of the car. Most people find that just some new wheels make the car feel better for them.

To be 100% Honest. I know I have a Honda Civic Type R now.... but if my car wasn't damaged that much by some twonk putting a Key to it and breaking into it. I would have kept it and done alot more to the car.

The Fabia could have been alot more - Skoda decided to limit its full potential. Use it.

I know its only my view but I thought the Fabia vRS was/is perfect as it is and what it was built for. They just wanted a discreet warm hatch with cheap insurance and good mpg.In fact I once read it was marketed with women in the 30 + age bracket in mind

We didn't buy ours expecting lotus handling and breakneck acceleration, that is a completely different kind of car.It is when you expect high insurance premiums and low fuel consumption

Reality is,if you want something likethat I think Renault have that corner of the market sewn up with the Clio

not at all, i told you that i have to be tickling the throttle to get anywhere near 50mpg on the fuel consumption computer, and even then as soon as i accellerate that disappears.

43mpg is what i get overall driving to work, doing some motorway work, and driving at night, etc.
