The Silver Shed has arrived!

Featured Replies

Finally found the car I've been looking for this morning! Needs quite a lot of TLC to the bodywork before she'll be looking smart, but the mechanicals are sound which was what I was looking for.

Primera GT with (just!) 92k miles on the clock. I think that's one of the lowest I've seen.:)

A few pics . . .

After collecting her from Birmingham:

A good clean down and she's looking better, especially with diadems helping to reduce the fried egg effect in the front indicators.

The alloys are shot, so I am probably going to replace those fairly soon (hence why I didn't bother cleaning them). I've already got a nice mp3 CD player lined up for the car, but fitting it is looking to be a royal PITA. :(

Either way, I'm very pleased with the car. :) It'll loose the "Silver Shed" title once I've tidied up all the various bodywork issues.

What have you bought it for?

Are you looking at getting rid of the octy?

If the stereo in a micra is anything to go buy, you have take half the dash apart to put a new one in.

Yeah Emily, the Octy is going. Costs too much when I'm trying to save for a house. :( Still it's nice to have a petrol again, nothing quite the note of a twincam soaring to 7000rpm. :D

Mike, yeah the stereo is a bit of a pain, but I've already had the dash off to sort out something else so I know what needs to be done. :)

Rather than getting shot of the alloys are they good enough to get a recon?

If you can then a set of steels for a week while they are been done should be good.

I think you can get clear/smoked side repeaters for it too :)

All in all it sounds like you've got something good and cheaper than the octy.

I do wish we could lose this fashion for lights that are any colour except the one that's actually useful to other motorists. Just my old-fashioned opinion, perhaps, but I wish indicators could be mandated to be orange, and that there was no easy way to get round the size regulations. Those don't look quite as bad as the stupid things fitted to Passats and Mk5 Golfs, but look as if they will be very hard to see, particularly on a sunny day.

Apart from all that, looks a nice clean car

Looks nice that Rob, nice colour for it too...

So how much did you pay then?? What needs tidying on the bodywork?

Personally I prefer Silvervisions to diadems, but both of them definitely light up ORANGE Nick!!! ;)

 Got there before I did . . .:D

Car was £1250 for an R plate which is so-so. The bodywork has quite a lot of scuffs and scratches. Just needs a general good workover. The paint seems to have fatigued on the boot spoiler too, I've T-cut'd it and polished/waxed and it's improved, but still not perfect. It won't be on the road until the end of this week (or until the insurance documents come through rather) so I've got some time to get it sorted. :)

Oil change tomorrow . . .

This thought has occured to me, but they're a little narrow and the car could really do with 205's on, rather than the 195's it came with.

Looks really nice. Should serve you well for a long time yet. Enjoy.

eeee, these youngsters... buy these posh new cars then realise they cant afford them.. what is the world coming to :P

Looks good Rob,i will keep my eyes peeled for you.

When you getting rid of the Octy then!;)

I always rather liked the look of those Primeras.

Oh and I like well-styled colour-change lights too; I actually think the fact that they change colour when they're on makes them more visible for one thing.

Maybe but OEM alloys mean lower insurance and 195 will be cheaper to replace than 205 unless it's a really odd size.

I think that clear/smoke to orange is much more visible, but I agree that silly sizes are bad.

Looks a lot better now its cleaned up

Goodluck with the new car!!!

How much money!!! Could have had my 2 Mondeos for that!!! :P

All joking aside, it sounds a fair price. Good luck getting it minted up!

Did the oil and filters today, as well as replaced a few bits here and there and all is well! Engine sounds better now too with nice fresh oil in it. :)

Clayed the bonnet and the passenger side and could not believe the crud that was coming of. I must have folded the clay at least 20 times, and that was only about 2/5's of the car! The Meguirs clay spray stuff was just going brown too! The panels I've sorted out (with a mixture of clay, T-cut, wax and polish) are looking much better now though.

As I've said Rob, a very sound buy

If you want a crack at the PC on the bodywork, give me a shout.

Steve

P.S. This thread should really be in Member's Motors :)
