Is fuel expensive enough yet?

Featured Replies

£59.85 for 47 litres in me Fabby vRS today

That was at Morrissons. at £126.9 litre. Nearer us it was £132.9 :(

Never thought I'd see the day when I was putting nigh on £60 in the tank. :thumbdwn:

I thought that until I put in £70 last week. OK, the display said 5 miles left before i filled up and I fully nippled it as I was off on a long trip, but £70...

Not so long ago, it seemed, I was scoffing (quietly) at a BMW X5 driver who'd just filled up next to me and his bill was around £80.

You can still feel smug if you want - he'll now be on more like £110

Yup, I suppose, still ain't nice how it lightens your wallet.

As an aside, we recently sold an old but (it turned out) very roadworthy Hyundai, which was supposed to be for my daughter once she passed her test :( but now has no intention of retrying for a year or two, to the brother of a friend.

He was driving a Ford Scorpio 2.9 which was a bit out of tune (10mpg ).

How sad would he have been to continue paying for fuel at that mpg.

cost £93 to fill up the work van today and there was still 1 bar left before i filled it up.

still hammered it down the motorway full pelt to get back to the office on time though.

See....

People who don't pay for their fuel don't give a crap about how much it costs , even though it does affect them indirectly.

They do say ignorance is bliss.:rofl:

i noticed last week when we were doing day trips that it didnt seem to bad topping up with 25 litres here and there, but soon as i filled up from the red it was a shock!! can see now why mums other half keeps filling up with only 20 litres a time now.

Because she's daft and thinks that three lots of 20 litres is cheaper than 60

nah just mentally makes you think its not so expensive.

Because she's daft and thinks that three lots of 20 litres is cheaper than 60

Thats true that. Mentally you think you're paying less when you're paying more.

I always make sure I dont have to fill fuel as service stations.

I've got to Milton Keynes and back home on 1 tank only had to fuel up when i got home.

The Shell i fill up at is 1.12 per litre now.

There's a very tiny loss in economy when you drive round with a full tank , but it's negligible and I'd much rather fill up once rather than three times.

Plus , each time I fill up , fuel cosls more so you may as well get it now while it's cheaper.

I only fill up earlier if I know I'm going a long way so I can guarantee that I can get cheap local fuel rather than find myself running out and possibly paying more

With fuel prices costing as much as they are, has the bottom fallen out of the premium fuel market?

Are peopl here still happily filling up on Shell V-power, BP Ultima and the like, whether petrol or diesel versions or have you opted for bogo standard fuel?

£68 to fill the Fabia up , it was only £65 2.5 weeks ago :(

I think v power unleaded is almost the same price as standard diesel?

I'll have to see how much the higher octane stuff is again.

The fuel prices were one of the reasons we have sold the caravan and Land Rover. To fill the Landy was costing about £120 every 3.5 weeks  and only did 22mpg (yes it was a diesel)

The new set of wheels will be be abit better on diesel :D

well its hitting hard here in madrid, the petrol stations are running out as the truckers are on strike, I live 50 miles from the office! I am fooked, fresh food is meant to run out over the weekend in the supermarkets

I think there will be a lot of governments watching Spain quite closely to see what happens

I've noticed it has gone down a bit now the other night I payed 1.26 a litre at shell compared to 1.28 a litre at a well known supermarket.

We moved house in November to a smaller/cheaper house but 30miles extra per day for SWMBO and about 45miles extra per day for me. In this move we would save about £200 per month but in the time we been in this house we are now paying out the same amount of money per month but it's going out to the fuel companies instead of the mortgage company and to finish it off with this slow down in the housing market we can't sell the house to move back to the area we came from. This move was only meant to be for 6months and now were stuck with the sky rocketing fuel prices.

We've both slowed down, me more than SWMBO, I get more MPG out of my octi than she gets out of her fabia vrs using the brim to brim method.

We're really starting to struggle as we've had a bad couple of months financially and have very little way of paying back what we've borrowed to pay for other necesities. I've stopped paying into my pension to give us some more money to live on each month, we've cancelled as much non necesary stuff as possible.

I've two years of the 3 year deal to go and I think unless prices steady (a drop is too much to hope for) I'll hand the car back at the end of the deal.

I'll be keeping a close eye on the prices of used TFSIs. Handing it back might be a lucky escape if they start to depreciate badly.

I had intended to keep the car for 5-6 years but I'm unsure if that is feasible now.

I've found that having changed from driving at 5-10pmph above the limit to 5-10mph below (on the speedo, not the gps), I've got about a 40% improvement in consumption, with the Octy getting very close to 70mpg on runs.

Frustratingly I can't even get close to this in the missus' 1.2 Fabia, which we bought (in part) to cut down the miles on the Octavia.

Perhaps this is the excuse I need to trade the 1.2 in for a vRS

I know a couple of people who have given up things like their classic cars because of increasing costs - Classic Car Weekly has no end of cars like Jaguars for sale. Whats been very noticable over the past year or so is the amount of small cars on the road like Citroen C1's, and a garage near to me is chock full of 4x4s and sports cars.
