Is fuel expensive enough yet?

Featured Replies

I think there will be a lot of governments watching Spain quite closely to see what happens

As are we all.

If nothing happens soon, there will be rioting in the western world.

It cost me £77 to fill the toledo today from empty :( It is about a days work just to fill my car :(

With fuel getting expensive we are going to see a down turn in things such as tourism in smaller towns around the country due to people not being able to afford the fuel. This will of course affect the economy along with everything else.

Update: on my way out of town yesterday, 3 out of 6 petrol stations were empty, in the end I got some in my village. One 47 year old protester was killed by a van whilst picketing yesterday in Granada. I can't believe someone has died over this.

Apparently our local Shell has dropped its prices by a penny today!

I've found that having changed from driving at 5-10pmph above the limit to 5-10mph below (on the speedo, not the gps), I've got about a 40% improvement in consumption, with the Octy getting very close to 70mpg on runs.

Would concur with that, on recent trip round from glasgow-leeds-hull-glasgow decided to do 60 on way from leeds to hull => 72mpg, and 60 on way from Hull to glasgow due to the rain => 70mpg. Really quite chuffed. I know the thing over estimates, but on trip back from south coast, horsed it and only got 48mpg. Still that's better than most petrols can manage.

Notice the 1.9 doesn't do 70+ very economically. The 2.5v6 didn't seem to consume much more at that speed

Have also noticed an average speed on motorway is considerably down

With my old 110 TDI it is definitely happiest at 65mph as I can achieve a range of around 630-680miles from a tank and it's a happy medium in speed I find

My fabia over 500 miles the average MPG is 38 which i thought is low for even a petrol its only 1.4 16v! i do have to boot it all the time to even keep up with a snail... might wait a bit longer for my vrs as diesel is so much :(

must admit i'm now getting about 40mpg on average in my se,and thats up from the low 30's,damm i wish i was rich:(

Quite interesting that Spain has the lowest Derv prices, and the Scandinavian and Nordic regions the highest - nearly £150/l for Petrol!

If prices double as the Daily Menace report, then no one will be able to buy food and we'll all be unemployed claiming benefits.

Brown really needs to wake up to the fact if people loose their lively hoods, they'll blame his ludicrous tax hikes.

I've been shifting slightly shorter on my normal commute, but with no other differences to my driving, I've seen about 5% better mpg this tank than last.

ive been putting SAFED training to good use this week, my fuel consumption was around 350 miles a tank, looking at 430-480 mile a tank when i fill up tomorrow.

2p a litre is not a ludicrous tax hike.

Prices have risen as the price of oil has increased , and that's the same for everywhere

I halved my fuel consumption yesterday.

Drove down to dorset then got returned to the midlands on the back of an AA truck

We also go out of our way to save a few bob . Here in Croatia my wife, who regularly travels to Belgrade Serbia for business, a round trip approx 1000km on motorways, takes a diversion into Bosnia, and takes on diesel just over the border. Distance extra is 30km, and she can make that up and profit by doing so. When in Serbia she will always top up , but the difference in price to Croatia and Bosnia is minimal, so she doesn't divert on the return trip. It actually depends on how much fuel we can take on board, over 3 quarters needed, then she may one divert is called for.

How much do you pay per litre?

The price of diesel has sort of been the same price at my local garage think it went up by a penny yesterday at the local shell to 1.27 a litre compared to 1.26 last sunday, the cheapest place I have seen on my travels is Asda at 1.26 a litre but with them having a new garage with only 4 pumps it is a bit of a q to get into it as it's stuck in the supermarket entrance and exit.
