Hail turned car into Golf ball!!

Featured Replies

On Friday, the sky turned orange at about 10pm, then I heard a hell o a noise, I honestly thought it was a tornado, but I saw a wall of Ice come in.

The Hail stones were the only just smaller than Golf balls, and my 57 plate Octy got it big time, There are dents on the boot, roof, bonnet, wings and two doors, big dents too!

How the windows survived I will never know, other car's windows were not so lucky.

I just hope the insurance will cover it, but I would love to know how anyone will repair it especially where it has dented creased parts on the bonnet and roof.

Moan over, will try post some pics too.

Jayzus. Thats horiffic.

I dont hold up much hope for your insurance, Force Majeure and all that.

Good luck with it though.

Sounds nasty, I remember one of my neighbours' cars got damaged by hail, and it's amazing how much damage it can do :(

I really hope you manage to get it sorted out OK.

Kay.

Dear God. I've never seen hail that size before. Gutted to hear of your precious Octy, hope she can be back to full health soon.

the photos were taken about 10 mins after too so they had melted slightly by the time I found and charged the camera enough!!! I was not scared to go outside...... Honest!!!

They usually pay out for flood damage, so can't see why hail damage would be treated differently.

Good Point!

Sounds bad. :(

Have you got any photos of the damage?

Some 20 yrs ago happened around Warrington.

Guess where we went that day :thumbdwn:

Our car was peppered with the smaller stuff - still cost £1k, was covered under insurance (had to have vinyl roof, new bonnet and boot lid). Dealers were advertising 100s of hail damaged cars.

Went to Renault Manchester to get insurance quote and saw a Renault 5 that had been hit by chucky eggs - seriously. There around 8 really large dents in the roof and one hailstone had smashed clean through rear number plate light and out through other side.

Would have killed anyone if it had hit them on head I reckon.

Sympathies :)

If the hail was that size a tornado could have developed!

acts of god???

Wow that's some serious hail!!

acts of god???

I had a conservatory roof replaced following damage from golf ball sized hail about 10 years ago. It was covered under standard buildings insurance.

The hail came through the roof and bounced about a metre back up off the floor. I couldn't get them to bounce anything like that high throwing them as hard as I could. Just saved on in the freezer for the insurance co and they didn't quibble.

Good luck!

time for a car port with multi cell pvcu roof :(

Hope you get it all sorted.

I remember riding a motobike when a sudden hailstorm like that occurred. That was even more scary!

The insurance is going to pay out, but got to pay 150 euro excess. Could be worse I suppose.

The bad news is, they wont be able to work on the car at the local VAG group garrage as they have had 400 of thier brand new VAG cars (Skoda, Audi & VW)

Hope they had insurance!!!

The paintless dent removal man that we use at work did some hail damaged cars for us a few years ago. He used a system whereby he glued plastic studs to the dents and used a puller to pull them perpendicular to the dent, thus pulling the dent out. It all worked quite well, and could be possibly cheaper than going through the insurance.

Just an update, I got in touch with my Skoda dealer, as they had not got back to me, and they said they would call the car in sometime in September, October time!!!! So I said sod them, and phoned another repair garrage. Within the hour, they picked up the car, and got it back in a week. All nicely repaired. I tried to get some photos, but its imposible to se the dents, as you see them in the light when moving.

Sorry.

Guy down the road had his new Merc written off by a drunk and last year ater taking delivery of new one we had a tornado ie high winds ,sky looking like something out of a hollywood film and thunder / lightning/ hail, guess what his Merc was written off again.

So, you mean you can still see the dents (when moving)?
