German style plate surrounds......

Featured Replies

Ok so maybe i should have asked this beforehand but.......

I've just bought some of the German style plate surrounds for the car from a division of the Dubmeister company. I thought i'd have a trial run before actually taking my plates off etc.... with the plates that the car was registered with. Came to put the plates in and they don't fit.... they are just too thick to clip in to the surrounds. Have i been a plank and just assumed that normal British perspex plates fit in these things when all along you have to have the german style metal plates????

If so they'll be in the for sale section soon!!!! As i like my current plates and ain't bothered about the metal style ones.....

Cheers

Ok a bit of a follow up.......

I've now seen pics in another thread of normal perspex plates in German style surrounds so it must be just the one's i've bought which are slightly unsuitable for perspex plates...... I'm wondering if i might be able to get some fine sandpaper and sand down the clips / lips that the plates fit under ever so slightly so the plates fit under ok.

To be honest i've only actually seen pressed metal plates in the actual surrounds i've bought. The one's i've seen perspex plates in are different ones.

The one's i got were the Skoda ones from Dubmeister / plate my ride.

But any other ideas from anyone with these actual surrounds will still be welcome.

Cheers

Not much use to you with words but does the plate fit if you slide it in length ways?

The one ive got on the Octy i know i had to wrestle it in but its a different surround

Hey up Matt,

The one's i have have little sliders that come up from the bottom edge of the holder as it's on the car..... Along the top edge there are little lips / clips that the plate goes under then when you slide the sliders up from the bottom they are supposed to go over / in front of the plate to hold it along the bottom edge. The perspex plate doesn't fit under the top lips so therefore doesn't fit in the holder correctly.

The only way round it that i can think will be to sand away a little of the lips / sliders on the underside (which would be up gainst the plate itself) so there is a slightly bigger gap that the plate can fit into.....

Hopefully you can see what i mean by the gap under lips / sliders in the attached pics.

Ahh i see what you mean now.

Give it a quick sand and see what happens. You shouldn't have to go too OTT with it to make them fit

I'm gonna have a go on one of them tonight when i get back from work...... I've got to wait for them to send me another surround in the next day or so cos one of them has a small crack down one end..... I was gonna super-glue it but they have said they'll send me a replacement for free!!! :D

So i might have a surround for sale soon. :D:D

Well practise on that one then :D;)

All done....... I just cut a little away from the underside of all the lips with a stanley knife and the plates now fit in.....:thumbup::thumbup:
