Yeah ive learnt about how deceitful comparisons sites can be, next time round ill call up and try and haggle a cheaper premium.

As with male drivers paying so much more, it might be crap being a woman at times, but in terms of insurance its great! I know some poor sods pay unbelivable prices. And though mine is steep, as Ken pointed out lads my age are far worse off.

Hopefully i dont become one of the statistics of having a crash within the first two years and i can build up a good no claims bonus. I know my Aunty has 22 years of no claims, and for fully comp she's only paying just over what i pay for a month. Here's to hoping i can make it to that.

I feel for you Mrgregm.

I checked how much my insurance would be if I was 17 and just passed and it was over £3000 :o. My instructor told me the story of a 17 year old lad passing his test and his insurance was £12,000 a year fully comp for a Subaru Imprezza and his parents paid the insurance (I picked the wrong parents :( ) :D

I also noticed the discrepancy of prices on confused with my insurer ecarinsurance. Only paid just under £600 and comes up as about £1000 on confused.com

see, they a bunch of crooks

says on the ad confused.com dont get commision so it doesnt cost more... and dont go straight to the insurer cuz you wont get the same quote!

well yeah thats damn right, you get a better one. they should be shut down, its shifting more money to insurance companies than it should be.

so true mrgregm, at least ive learnt from my mistake and i will NOT use a comparison site next year.

Treat the confused.com as a guide.

Another thing to watch for is renewals.

I have 2 years ncb and 2 claims

1 fault from 2005 and one non fault from 2007

My current insurer Kwik Fit charged £700 last year (before the NF claim)

This year they wanted £740. I got a quote from their website at £640. When I told them that, they honoured the lower price.

confused.com found me the lowest quote at £550 with a relatively new company but I stuck with KF.

Why did you throw away 90 quid  and stay with the company that mucked up your quotes

Increased quotes for current customers is an almost universal thing. They expect you to just pay and ask no questions.

Interestingly my insurer did not do this with my renewal quote as I checked, but it's always best to shop around every renewal time :)

Cause I'm also on Quidco (quidco.co.uk) and am getting £80 cashback off them, and a free MOT.

I also have the full legal cover.

The £550 odd quote was from a company called The Green Insurance Comapny

**OK BoBob Now I'm really going to look silly. :o

Had I researched further i would have the Green Company is under-written by Fortis (who underwrite my Kwik Fit policy too)
