octy vrs vs leon cupra r

Featured Replies

essentially what are the differences between an octy vrs engine and a LCR engine given that the LCR develops 225 bhp and the octy 180bhp. is it easy to upgrade the octy to 225 or is there major cost involver like a new bigger / better spec turbo or can a std octy turbo live with the 225bhp?

thanks

LCR uses the KO4 turbo, vRS uses the KO3s. LCR also has twin side mounted intercoolers, bigger MAF, intake pipes and slightly bigger injectors....that's about it really.

A vRS with a few mods (turbo back system, decent CAI and a FMIC perhaps) once remapped should be 230-240bhp, this figure being a short lived spike, rather than a sustainable hp up to the redline.

firstly can i show my noviceness (no such word i'm sure but you get the idea) what is a CAI. ta for the info though. it sounds like your motor is a proper savage monster.

i think i will skip the 6 speed box option unless i eventually head to the 300 bhp mark, which i doubt i will as families are expensive but i would like to be at LCR performance so i guess a K04 could be in order. it a K04 the way to go or am i better going for a garrat T30 or T28 rollerbearing turbo? i have also seen a forge intercooler which is apparently 27mmx15mmx5mm bigger than the std IC will this do similar to the LCR twin ICs or is the LCR twin IC setup much better. can a LCR twin IC conversion be fitted to an octy and is it a hard job / worth the cost or is there a better IC to buy for the octy which is the ideal solution?

Cold Air Intake = CAI

If you have a little search there is shedloads of info around the mk1 octy section

sorry too eager to find out more as i might be getting the coty tomorrow if we can settle on a price. about the rest though the .....garrat T30 or T28 rollerbearing turbo? i have also seen a forge intercooler which is apparently 27mmx15mmx5mm bigger than the std IC will this do similar to the LCR twin ICs or is the LCR twin IC setup much better. can a LCR twin IC conversion be fitted to an octy and is it a hard job / worth the cost or is there a better IC to buy for the octy which is the ideal solution? please let me know your thoughts as i do not know much acout which turbos are good and whether the forge IC is worth investing in or whether a front mount is the only way to inprove charge cooling sufficiently to be worth it

No need to apologise, it's just there quite a few options and they have pretty much all been tried by someone or other on here at some point, though alot of those people no longer frequent the site regularly so their thoughts and comments are hidden away in old posts. :):) As for the IC I belive front mount is the way to go if your after big power. Trouble with the side mounts is that they are in the wheel arch so they don't get masses of air flow through them.

what do you think about the turbo tho? is a roller bearing garrat or similar the way to go or do you know better? ive read a lot on here about what works on fabias but am unsure when it comes to a octy

Tbh I ain't the man to ask. But iirc the K04 isn't much less than the garret.

thanks fatty. i will have to read these over and over again as there is so much tech stuff in there my head is metled. i only want to know about a GT 28 or GT30 is a good route to take and these dudes have done the lo9tmand have s many figures etc i am blown away. i iwll have another read tomorrow but i thought a good 225 to 240 bhp with bottom end torque and a blower that would work to about 6,000 rpm would be good for me.

Thanks again

Lee.

if you "only" after LCR power, it's possibly not worth going any further than getting a good remap from the likes of IP. if you really really want a bigger turbo, is it worth going to a K04?

Practically anything is possible with these cars depending on how much you want to spend. With any turbo upgrade you will need to modify the exhaust down pipe ,upgrade injectors etc. The gt2x or hybrid k03s will bolt straight on with a map adjustment.

I think if I was in your position I would just do the usual exhaust / intake / remap mods to get to a power level which would be roughly the same as the Cupra.

Gerry (Beretta) would be a good person to speak to, his Octy has around the power level you're looking for, this is thanks to an uprated exhaust, cold air intake, front mounted intercooler and a remap from Impossible Performance. I believe it's still running the standard K03s turbo.

iirc...there was so little between an octavia with jabba remap, fmic, turboback exhaust, sports cat etc and another with nothing but the jabba remap at a RR day a while back that it makes you wonder if it's really worth paying for anything more than a remap - unless you're going all out on a proper big turbo job

Until summer or a prolonged time on boost ;)

all or nothing mate, either remap and nothing else or go the whole hog.

exhaust, cold air inlet etc etc etc al make pretty much sod all difference on a K03s equipped engine, they only become an actual benefit once a bigger turbo is fitted i'd say(having done all the above).

gt28rs £600

manifold £100

downpipe £300

odds and sods £200

injectors £250

mapping £500+

thats using the standard exhaust, inlet, maf, IC and will see you at 300bhp easily. you could spend the same doing remaps/exhausts/inlets/dv's blah blah blah and get a massive 230bhp or so.

the way i look at it is a remap alone takes you form 180bhp to around 210-215ish for about £400 +/- £100 depending on where you go but if you want you can gain an extra 10bhp or so by spending another £1500-2000 on little extra's like intakes, exhausts etc so its either remap only or go for the lot :D

during our heyford antics we did 3 or 4 full bore races over a couple miles or so hitting speeds of 120+ and never did my car(blueflame exhaust, fmic, samco tip, cai, remap, uprated dv etc etc) pull away from goochies octavia(generic remap only) apart form the start as i had 4x4 and he had FWD.

well worth the £1500+ over goochies

Yeah but your 4x4 will be giving you more drag, power to all four wheels.

Only f it has traction issues, if the ESP/Haldex system doesnt detect and wheel slip its 2WD.

not mine :P

Ahh ok, you learn something every day :o

Yes but what everyone running these big turbo 300bhp car forget to tell people is how many gearboxes you go through :o

Anyway I'm happy with my car for what I have spent on it :)

To spend 5K+ on a car that's not even worth 5K is madness IMO ;)

not mine :P

Nope, technically yours isn't even 2wd atm.

:D

but 5k on a 5k car to ge tthe performance of a 17k+ car is worth it ;)

Well i've total £440 worth of mods so far.. gulp, looking to get a FMIC fitted for around £150...don't laugh.

It really does not need to be top brand mods to get decent performance out of these cars.
