want to recon / replace engine

Featured Replies

Hi, my 1.6 felicia is ever so slightly smokey (when you first boot it after coasting down hill particularly). It's actually a lot better than when I got it a couple of weeks ago by giving it a good run and trying to de coke it, but there is no denying that it's not all soot, some of it is a bit of oil smoke from general wear.

So I might change the engine for either a low mileage unit or possibly even recon it. The question is am I limited to just looking for a skoda 1.6 AEE engine or is the polo aee engine the same? I heard that the golf AEE is different to the polo AEE, and what about the Octavia AEE?, I want to fit my gearbox as it's just had a clutch, and am happy to transplant all my ancilleries.. I just need to know which AEE units are the same with regards to the main engine unit.

Thanks.

the actually main components of the engine are the same, it's only external components like the flywheel, mounting brackets and a few of the timing belt covers that are different...

it should be quite an easy job swapping the stuff over

Surely there's another answer to fixing the problem?

I seem to remember reading someone's post about the same problem on a 1.6 quite some time ago and it turned out to be the MAF sensor or something?

Phil

personally i would replace the oil seperator on the back of the engine block to see if that makes any difference
