iTunes

Anyone here used the Apple itunes download (legally) music site? Seems individual tracks can be downloaded for 79p each track, and albums

not used it myself. The files you download are in AAC format, and can only be played on an ipod or using the itunes application. You can however burn the tracks as an audio cd from within itunes, then re-rip the cd to mp3 format.

I've used iTunes. Got to say that quality is excellent. I've got no probs paying for tunes - MP3s are so much more convenient and if you want a tune you can get it in seconds rather than wait a few days for CD-WOW to deliver or whatever.

The only problem with iTunes is that the tunes are only ripped by Apple themselves and the selection is not very good. I beleive there is a way to request tunes specifically if they are not there but i cant find it as of yet. As the selection is not very good i will probably keep on using p2p software and check iTunes regularly.

I agree with you there Dave.

The main advantage of using iTunes instead of buying cheap albums is that you only pay for the tracks you want - not having to shell out for filler tracks is great.

Yep you've hit the nail on the head there bosnac. How can you tell what the filler tracks are on an album? Simple - you can preview tracks before you buy/download them!

iTunes is not just a download site but a libary jukebox, ripper and burner, If you have an iPod it is a must have. The Music Store is a doddle to set up and download.

The downloads are 128 MP3's not WMA as in mycokemusic and napster. At present mycokemusic is claiming 350,000+ songs, napster 250,000+ songs and iTunes 700,000+ songs. There is no subscription like napster, just register a card for one click downloads. Has all the tricks, like not downloading a track you already have in libary, 30sec sample of all songs.

After trying a few download sites, and not wishing to be a tea leaf, I have moved to iTunes music store. But even at 79p a track it is still ripoff UK compared to the USA.

To buy CD's I go for CD-WOW.com

PM Faye. She's using some russian site and swears by it.

I have just started using itunes too and must say that it is excelent. Handy being able to download just the songs you want, then play them in the provided jukebox. Easily able to convert to MP3 and rip to your very own compilation album too. :D

Use Direct Connect... its a lot cheaper!
