Alternator: Felicia 1.3 GLI Estate

Featured Replies

Dear Forum Members,

I currently own a 1999 registered Felicia 1.3 GLI Estate and for the last couple of days the alternator light has been illuminated on the dashboard whilst the vehicle is in motion; however this goes out occasionally when the engine is idling.

A mechanic has checked the alternator and the tension of the belt and both appear to be in order.

However I have been advised by another source to invest in a new alternator.

Can anyone tell me which model of alternator I need to purchase?

Many thanks

Symptoms fit in with faulty alternator, cf. this thread:

Seems as if the 1.3 Felicia came with at least three different alternators (55A, 70A, 90A). There should be a plate somewhere on it with type specifications?

After identifying the correct type it would probably be pretty easy for you to find a second hand alternator at your local scrappie.

Many thanks Swedishskoda,

Today I visited a local motor parts store in the search of a new alternator and they had some fun in matching up the correct one for the car.

They had a 55A in store, however when they placed it alongside the current one in my car, apparently the mountings were in reverse of each other.

A rather perplexed salesman then once again scrutinized his order catalogs and eventually found a match to my one.

It would appear the one installed is for also powering an air con unit even though there is no air con installed in my car.

Thanks for the tip on the scrapyard; however I intend to do my annual drive around Germany very soon and would prefer to have a new part to rely on.

Thanks
