VRS TDI How to launch quickly?

Featured Replies

Pending GTI international this weekend() I thought I might give the strip ago for a laugh. The trouble is with cold tyres the VRS wants to slip in 1st and 2nd! Owing that Bruntingthorpe is no Santa pod I'm guessing the surface will not be that forgiving.

Now I wouldn't say I'm a numpty here as I've raced other cars/bikes but since changing to the VRS from a 150TDI FR I've got to say clutch feed in first on spirited launches always leads to wheel spins banging away on the tarmac:O

So apart from launch in 2nd gear (tried it with mucho clutch smell) what's the general concensus for best launch?

I used to get wheelspin in the wet in 3rd in mine ! Assuming its dry, I'd use moderate revs in 1st gear 2250- 2500 rpm max if you want to avoid wheel-banging.

Practice... :P

Where is your car these days ;)

You COULD use the crappy "Launch Control" feature that is standard, but as i just put, Crap.

Thread here - more discussion on "manual" launching there too

Thanks:) i read that first and it spurned me on to do the thread. I have to admit I haven't even noticed this 'feature' before. Experience tells me foot down in 1st = spin so and it is practice to stop yourself from 100% throttle I agree.

Has any one done a TDI 1/4 yet? I'd be interested in the times. I would definately think a 15 sec one is possible?

You would be suprised, the extra gearchange really hampers the diesels.

How? - 4x4...

It's the same for the TFSi, to hit 60mph you need to change up to 3rd gear unless you wish to rev past 7,000rpm in 2nd!! Best Qtr mile I got last year was mid 14's :o

Being absolutely fecking awesome. Well, as awesome as it can be without a gearbox...

It should go down in Skoda History for being so damn awesome

I'm basing my assumption on the comparison of the 16.1 I did at Pod in the FR. so I'm up 20 bhp a bit more torque and a better power delivery.

Still we all know what happens when you ***-u-me:rolleyes:

I had a go with the 'launch control' today and it wasn't that bad TBH :)

Just gives you the chance to concentrate on 1 less thing. Roll on sub 4 sec 0-60:dizzy:
