ŠkodaAuto News Release

UNDER STRICT EMBARGO UNTIL 10:00 ON TUESDAY 17 JUNE 2008

16 June 2008

ŠKODA ANNOUNCES PRICING FOR NEW SUPERB

Škoda UK today announced pricing for the all-new Superb. With a starting price of £15,490, the new Superb represents fantastic value for money. Customers will enjoy unrivalled levels of specification, no matter which of the three trim levels they choose.

Trim levels will be comprised of S, SE and Elegance, marking a shift away from the badging of other Škoda models. Each specification level provides customers with high levels of standard equipment valued between £1,500 and £2,000 more than the step in price between spec levels.

The complete list of prices and equipment follows at the end of this release. Highlights of specification for each level includes:

Superb S

  • Seven airbags
  • Alarm with interior monitoring and tilt sensor
  • Light Assistant (Coming home, tunnel and daylight functions)
  • Split folding rear seats
  • Remote central locking
  • Climatic air conditioning
  • Radio with single CD + MP3
  • Electric front and rear windows
  • Electrically adjustable and heated door mirrors
  • 16” ‘Spectrum’ alloy wheels
  • ESP
  • Twindoor
  • Front fog lights

Superb SE (over S)

  • Fog lights with cornering function
  • Four-spoke leather multi-function steering wheel (for radio)
  • Umbrella in rear door
  • Alcantara upholstery
  • Acoustic rear parking sensors
  • Cruise control
  • Dual-zone air conditioning
  • 17” ‘Trifid’ alloy wheels
  • Electrically folding door mirrors
  • Integrated 6CD touchscreen stereo

Superb Elegance (over SE)

  • Bi-xenon headlights
  • AFS (Adaptive Front-light System)
  • Tyre pressure monitor
  • Rain sensor windscreen wipers
  • GSM III telephone preparation with Bluetooth
  • Heated front seats
  • Full leather upholstery
  • Electrically adjustable diver and passenger seats
  • ‘Colombus’ colour touch screen satellite navigation
  • 18” ‘Themisto’ alloy wheels
  • 4 spoke leather multi-function steering wheel (radio and telephone)

These features and more make the new Superb one of the best equipped cars in the upper-medium sector. In addition to offering customers these very high levels of standard specification, the pricing is very competitive against the mainstream competition.

The Superb engine line-up is a comprehensive mix of petrol and diesel units that cater for the needs of every type of customer. These include the new 1.4 TSI petrol engine that offers an outstanding combination of greater fuel economy and low CO2 emissions while delivering 125bhp in a smaller, lighter engine than previously offered.

In addition, for the first time on Superb, there is a new CR (Common Rail) diesel engine with 170 bhp, a winning combination of great fuel economy, low CO2 emission and smooth diesel performance.

Also on offer are DSG gearboxes, with a six-speed DSG standard on the 3.6 V6 (at 260 bhp, it is the most powerful road-going vehicle Škoda has produced to date), and optional with the 2.0 TDI engines. For the first time, Škoda will offer a new seven-speed DSG gearbox with the 1.8 TSI engine.

The new Superb offers class-leading interior space, with more rear leg room than even an S-class Mercedes. Not only is the space for driver and passengers enormous, the boot volume of 565 litres (with rear seats up) is class leading.

Adding to the appeal of the new Superb is Twindoor, designed and patented by Škoda engineers and unique to Škoda. At the touch of a button, Twindoor enables Superb to be either a hatch or a saloon, thereby suiting the needs of a wider range of customers.

A large number of safety features are standard on the new Superb. All models have seven airbags: driver and passenger front and side airbags, curtain airbags and a driver’s knee airbag; ESP is standard across the range. This has helped Superb achieve five stars in EuroNCAP testing for driver and occupant protection.

Robert Hazelwood, Škoda UK Brand Director sums up the new Superb this way. “The Superb offers Škoda’s trademark value for money, interior spaciousness and engineering solutions designed with customers’ needs in mind in a fantastic package. Beautifully designed both inside and out, the new Superb will make a great choice for retail and fleet buyers.

“In today’s economic climate where value is king, the Superb offers a mainstream car that delivers value in every way. When I look at the pricing and equipment compared to Superb’s competition, I am especially pleased. It’s the right car for today’s challenges and will underscore yet again that Škoda is, indeed, the manufacturer of happy drivers.”

Editors’ Notes

Škoda is the Manufacturer of Happy Drivers:

  • The new Octavia is the 2008 Auto Express Driver Power survey ‘Car of the Year’
  • Škoda is ranked second overall in the 2008 J D Power Study of Customer Satisfaction, and has been in the top five for the past 13 years.

Škoda is an environmentally-friendly manufacturer:

  • Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders cites Roomster 1.4TDI (135g/km) as lowest emitting MPV in UK
  • Škoda is ranked as the fourth greenest make in the UK by Business Car.

What a tease! :( :P

Any mention of the CO2 tax ratings? The Elegance 2.0 TDi CR still seems pick of the bunch to me.

I wonder how many they'll sell with 4x4 transmissions, virtually none?

Elegance 1.8TSI manual for me please!

The specs certainly look interesting, even the lowest spec is pretty good. If I went for one, it would be an elegance as well. I would however have to get the fog light cornering disabled, its one function that seems pointless to me.

Some CO2 figures for us company car drivers are as follows:

1.4TSi - 157 g/km - 19% BIK

1.8TSi - 180 g/km - 24% BIK (same CO2 figure for manual and DSG, which is nice)

1.9TDi - 151 g/km - 21% BIK

2.0TDi 140 - 155 g/km (177 for DSG) - 22% / 26% BIK

2.0TDi 170 - 159 g/km (169 for DSG) - 22% / 24% BIK

3.2V6 - 238 g/km (DSG only) - 35% BIK

It's interesting to see that the new 7 speed DSG on the 1.8TSi incurs no CO2 penalty. I'm guessing this is something to do with the new dry clutch arrangement, and the petrol engine.

Personally, I'm going to go for the TDi 170 in Elegance trim, probably with DSG and park assist (just because I can't resist a new toy).

Bagpuss.

Looks great value for money - and as mentioned even the lower specs are pretty good.

Interesting to see that even on a new model they have launched with the 2.0 TDI PD (140HP) and the 2.0TDI CR (170HP), which seems to suggest they intend to run them in parallel rather than the CR being a replacement for the PD.

Would have been good to see them push the boundaries a little with a 200HP + diesel engine, but maybe thats to come.

Wonder how long it will be before someone starts a rumour that the 3.6 V6 with 260HP will be used in the new Fabia vRS

Some more details on options:

- Park assist will cost no more then £500 and will be an option on all models.

- 3-spoke steering wheel with DSG paddles will definitely be an option. No price yet.

Sadly, I got the MDI thing wrong. I've just doublechecked, as I was about to try and order the car, and MDI isn't going to be available on the car. Hopefully, they will add it at a later date.

The options list should be out in the next week or so, as soon as the prices have been confirmed.

Dealers are on a trip to Lisbon today and tomorrow for the official UK launch of the car, so expect more details on Thursday when they get back.

Bagpuss.

I wonder how badly the 4x4 option affects economy and emissions.

Wot! no heated rear seats?

Jenks

I wonder who will be the first to have a RHD model on their forecourt?

I think the SE 2.0 TDI CR (170) manual is incredible value for money when compared to its rivals, would be my choice as budget goes.

W.

The 2.0 CR 170 for me please in the estate version, does everyone think these are good value?

I'm tempted to say that the pricier models look very expensive for a Skoda. But then again, against the size for size and spec for spec rivals it is actually good for the money.

The 2.0 CR 170 for me please in the estate version, does everyone think these are good value?
I think a 170 bhp 4x4 TDi CR estate in Elegance trim will be an outstanding, if expensive (~£26k?) motor.

My Local dealer thinks there will be a very heavy V6 Diesel come out later in the year - 3.2ltr or something?

V6 4x4 hmmmmm - Could be awesome.

I do recall that a "flagship" Superb version is due. I can't imagine anyone buying it. At todays fuel price, CO2 tax rates, economic slump and huge depreciation in large cars, who would buy such a thing? Certainly not me.

if i could afford the top of the range with all the extra's id go for it......only got one shot on this mad planet......i know everyone has a budget....must be awful buying a new skoda knowing that for a few quid more and maybe you already have the dosh and dont need it..i personally would go for the top of the range........if i could afford it lol

No sign of the vRS yet then .....

a 4x4 Superb Scout Combi?? 3.6 v6 mmmm time to kick Audi's ****! haha:)

since when did the sware filter come back!

  • 2 weeks later...

has everyone else just got the email about booking test drives?

and if you look on website the stats suggest a top of range 6.6 secs to 62 and limited to 155. A proper exec express then.... with 260bhp

I don't think I'll see any of that model over here though...

Just had my email through

  • Author

Yes, I got the email this morning, but had to laugh as they've made an error towards the end where they have said :

'If you would like to send us a brochure or if you'd like to test drive the New Superb at your local retailer please click here. '

Surely it should read If you would like US to send YOU a brochure............

The 3.6 with that sort of performance should have some more so called 'prestige' marques quaking in their tyres, especially at such a low price for that sort of performance.

I'll think we'll see a few 3.6 Elegance models over here.

When the old Superb was launched there was quite a few 2.8 V6s down as dealer demos.

They are £26k so not what you'd call cheap it if you where looking at an Audi A6 3.2FSI Quattro Tiptronic for much more than that you might be quite happy with the Superb.

That said would the extra power and value be enough to tempt Audi drivers away from their four rings?

I still mantain that I reckon the biggest sellers are going to be the DSG variants of the 1.8TSFi and the 2.0TDi.

Got my email as well.

Still expensive compared to last model, but might manage a SE 1.8 Methinks petrol may now be a better option than diesel.

Better still duel fuel as per Vauxhall be sweet.

Can we have a Superb II thread as per Octavia 1 & 2.
