Found my Perfect Car

Featured Replies

I was going to get a superb this year, then descided to maybe wait for the new octavia, but I have Fallen In love with a V plate Volkswagen Bora 1.9 TDI PD Automatic. It's automatic, like my fabia and it's basically a Golf Saloon. It could be a 100hp, 130hp or even a 150hp PD, but I don't know. It's got 38k on the clock and is priced at

I mean it is an octavia, only it doesent seem to cost much more, and what do you think about the replacement bit, would you buy an octavia today, knowing the new one is around soon?

It isn't an Octavia - the Octavia is a hatch, so has a more useful boot than the Bora... :)

I shouldn't imagine you'd pay anywhere near

Also the Bora's my friends have owned (about 3 or 4) seem to develop big problems once they hit that age gearboxes, electrical faults, rust etc so be very careful buying one.

I like the Bora. I looked at them before getting the Octavia. The best kept secret model is the ST, 150 bhp turbo but alot less pennies than the Golf GTi.

Sounds like a nice spec of motor - reasonably powered economical autos aren't that common. IMHO the Bora is a good looking car too.

An octy auto would either be the 90hp diesel, 2.0 or 1.8t petrol. I can vouch for the 1.8t as having reasonable performance and moderate mpg but, on paper anyway, the others are just too slow for my requirements. The Bora with the PD engine should have a good balance of performance and economy.

If only they did the octy in a PD130 Tiptronic...

Went In today, and what a fabulous car. Had a little sit-in, Very nice, blue dials and leather everywhere. I found out it is a 110 ps TDI SE BORA, what is PS, Horsepower?, and if so is that a PD engine? Seriously going to get it, he offered me

Sounds like the non PD engine as featured in the Octy :)

Yep its a TDI 110 (which is the same as the 90 but with variable vane turbo) but it is not pd.

The TDI 110 is a cracking engine that give very good refinement, economy and performance....ok then it goes like stick but only sips the juice.

So on the whole do you think I should go for it, thats a good Price for my car, and this car seems nice too?????????? Or shall i buy 39984939 Rolls of Charmin ultra? :)

Go with the Charmin.

Or, take the Bora for a test drive and see if you like it and if it's in good nick... :)

Yes, but Think just how many times you will need to wipe your bottom for the rest of your life, i think it's justifiable,

Ill take the Bora for a test drive, c what i think!

Have you had a decent test drive yet? If not any question as to whether to go for it or not is pointless.

You need to know you will like the auto box, and the slightly softer ride of the Bora, but then I always found the Jetta and Vento to be slightly more balanced than the Golf as well as slightly softer.

For a car of its size, the boot will be a fair size, but a saloon isnt as practical as a hatch.

But what ever opinions are fired at you, you need to test drive it, and not just round the block either. If the auto box is anything like the current non-tiptronics then it will be an adaptive box which adjust its change patterns to the planting of your foot..ie heavy and fuller plantings will result in higher revs and the box changing up much higher up the rev range, whereas softer foot plantings will result in early and gentle box changes giving a smoother, quieter and more economical drive.

Either way, test drive it.
