Folding update

Featured Replies

Well.. thought id check in because ive just found something "interesting" out.....

Firstly... i still have 2 CPUs folding for me.... which makes me laugh because its at the company i left over a year ago now

Secondly, a newer SMP client has been released that is apparently alot more stable.

Thirdly.. in a few days, there will be a way for us PC folk to catch up with the PS3 folding crowd that has been running away with things.... CUDA!

Basically, a beta will be out soon to allow folding to be done on the graphics card of your machine... and its going to be very very fast!.

Heres a chart i found:

bench15.gif

Once the beta client is released, i will be putting it on... along with my Q9450 should get me back up the charts a bit :D

So could you run the GPU and SMP client at the same time?

I'd be able to clock up some right points with my Q6600 and 8800GTX!!!

Phil

Yes, you can run both at the same time.

Holy smoke those are some good figures, if that chart's to be believed

I've had to cut down quite a lot, like so many others really, due to the continuing creep of energy costs :(

Steve

Have just looked into this... im downloading the CUDA drivers and also the actual BETA of the GPU2 client! Already available!

Will try it out tomorrow as i'm on the lappy at the mo!

That looks pretty good.

Had to uninstall all my folding clients when I left my last job. :(

Ive been running the gpu client and a single cpu instance, my average combined points per day is currently 3350!

thats 215points from the cpu, the rest from the gpu

I'm having issues installing the 177.35 drivers! It just come up with an error message before it even installs them saying something about it can't find drivers for my hardware!

Will just try it with normal drivers...

Phil

EDIT: Just installed and running fine now!

Will have completed this WU in 4 hours and 30 mins!!

The real-time display works too! Which i didn't think it did!

the realtime display will actually slowdown the gpu processing!

also the 177.35 drivers need a slight modification to go on geforce 8 and 9 series cards...

i use a program called fahmon to monitor the programs, it can do remote servers too if you can get onto it with UNC

Just set this running on one of my 8600GTS cards... says it will be done in 4hrs 30mins... :D

mmmwwaahhhh

I'll get the ps3 up and running later, plus the quad on 2 cores and the GX2 7950.:D

Should rack em with that lot although my electric bill will suffer. Just when I was starting to wind the folding down as well.

But i don't understand... if i don't have the visual display open it doesn't actually do anything!

I've just noticed that as well

Very strange... think i need to investigate!!!!

If I look in the log file it says it hasn't managed to download aa work unit as well.

Damn you new gfx card owners.

My plan is thwarted by my older hardware:grumpy:

Well you know what the answer to that is don't ya! UPGRADE, UPGRADE!!!!

Thing is my card is still very tasty just not DX10, It is the most powerful DX9 card they ever did :)

LOL!...

Look at the stats now!

CLICKY!

Fired my machine up this morning it downloaded and rattled through a WU in an hour and a half on the GPU:eek::thumbup:

Am i being stupid here or what!!??

Do you have to have the display open in order for it to run... byt this i mean the visualisation???

If i don't have this open it doesn't do anything and it resets it if i close it and re-open!

ignore the display, try viewing the logfile to see if its updating. click on the icon in the bottom by the clock and select view log, then look again about 1hr later to see if its done anything.

I got the ps3 on the case now. But the pc seems to be throwing errors ......"attempting to get work" or something ????

Have checked the log after i closed it and this is what it says at the end:
