Running in petrol engine

Featured Replies

I have searched around a bit but been unable to come to any conclusion on this.

I have just got a Fabia 2 1.6 16v and I have done about a hundred miles so far, trying to vary the revs etc.

I understand that the manual says it is "pre-run in" but others say different.

Does anyone know what the protocol is when you buy a new petrol these days.

Thanks in advance.

the manual said to me that you drive carefully for do many miles (cant remember the miles now) but after speaking to various garages i was told just drive it normally.

i know my mate bought a new astra a few weeks back and his car was pre ran in too. so he could just drive it as normall. isnt it only TDI's that need to be ran in? :)

I was told my dealer that new car engines now adays don't need to be run in like they used to. However, he did say that it would be a good idea to keep uner 4,000 revs for the 1st 500 miles.

just drive it normally... I always run my cars in like that, and have never had a problem :)

I have read also that modern technology means that they don't have to be run in as they used to.

But its prob good advice to just drive normally so you get used its' little quirks etc.

Mines run in nicely and is running sweet at over 106k

Just don't thrash it until a few 100 miles have been covered.

It's not just the engine that needs to be run in :)

I always caned mine from cold starts, you end up with a faster motor, never had any problems.

hi..Ive covered 400 miles in my 1.9tdi and drive it normally.once its fully warmed up u can give it some beans.modern tdi units loosen up quite quickly.

nail it

Stick to the rules on manual...
