New Audi 211bhp engine in vRS?

Featured Replies

Audi are producing a new version of the 2.0 T engine with 211bhp and emissions of only 154gm for the A4. This will make the tax cheaper than the diesel version.

Anyone know if this will end up in the vRS sometime in the near future?

The new 2.0T is now in the Golf GTi, not sure if its 211bhp but it is a new engine, the 2.0 TFSI's are being run out.

Iirc it also produces something like 265lb/ft torque as standard too! :D

According to the VW web site, it is 189gm on the GTI, so it looks the same engine we already have.

You know why they are phasing it out?

Its a bad idea, never really worked as it should, our fuel isn't good enough for the FSI to switch into stratisfied mode. So the new 2.0 turbo which is chain driven does away with it all and is just a direct injection petrol.

Have you been getting these through yet Ross?

Our fuel isnt good enough, so what should they be run on then as i though they were all meant to run fine on SUL ie 97/98+ RON?

The new engine is supposed to be leagues ahead of the TFSI in terms of tunability....a lot better actually.

We'll have to wait and see.

Sounds an interesting new unit

Can't find any more info on it though, at the moment

We dont have a lot, seen one now. From what i'm guessing its a larger capacity version of the 1.8 TSi, but being as I havent seen one of them as yet it is just tha, guesswork.

Nothing like being informed on these things being as we have to work on them

The new 1.8T looked to be an impressive unit, especially in terms of economy. 40mpg combined on the A4 I believe. And a pretty useful 184lb/ft between 1500 & 4500.

Could be enough to tempt me out of a diesel at this rate :D

Steve

What do you need to know about them for Ross your only going to fix them.

Bit like me and my job really

The engine is an iron-block "world" engine with Audi's equivalent to BMW's Valvetronic i.e. it doesn't have a butterfly throttle. It produces 209bhp and 258lbs/ft (350Nm)

The engine is an iron-block "world" engine

eh ?

Audi call it their "World" engine designed for all markets and it has an iron block...

I think the "premium" 200ps version is intended only for Audi at the moment. It has variable valve timing and lift on the intake cam (as per auroans link in post #17 just above).

The version being put in US GTIs has stated outputs the same as the old (rubber belt driven cams) engine.

That TFSI engine sounds like a monster:

350Nm torque (more than most diesels, so all the "shove you love")

6.9s to 60

154 g/km

42.8mpg (so let's say 37 real-world)

I think diesel may have had its day :S

Audi are onto a winner with this. It's perfect for company car buyers. I can't wait for it to come on to the used market in 2/3 years time.

Me neither!... or rather for it to appear in a vRS. Who wants an audi badge anyway?! ;)

Following the "world" market comment, is it really UK high octane petrol not up to FSI quality or other parts of the world?

I think it is more to do with the amount of sulphur in the fuel, rather than the octane rating, that causes the issues with FSI.

I don't understand the comment about FSI. From audi's press release on the web it looks like the new 2.0T still has it.
