LED sidelights

Featured Replies

Thankyou again kind sir.

Will take a peek at both the ones you've posted.

Had LED's for about 3 moths now. At first they worked fine, then they occasionally didn't work (one at a time), and a few days ago they both stopped working. Must have a look at what's wrong.

As has been said before, if youre running plastic LED's close to the main headlight bulb (fabia applies!) then they will fail pretty sharpish.

The only solution if you really want to run LED's, are metal cased ones from www.ultraleds.com - i had them for 1 1/2 years, and only now one has just failed.

At £16 for two they are reasonably priced but I dont know if i can be bothered anymore!

 WHAT!! £16 for two bulbs reasonable??

LOL well...... you're right, they are not. However i have seen some PIAA ones for about £30-40!!

I'm guessing this has almost certainly been asked before (so please just humour me)....

In a bulb set like this:

Can I assume that those sidelights won't actually emit "blue" light, but more of that icey-blue "white" light?

That's exactly right:thumbup:

They are blue to change the colour temperature to close to daylight white, rather than the yellowish light that normal bulbs emit

That's right i have these sidelights and the are alot better then standard and give off a nice colour

Blue and coloured bulbs may give a whiter or slight blue light, but will never produce more light than standard ones, even if PIAA say they may. See here: Daniel Stern Lighting - Superwhites

Thanks for the info.

Reason I asked was that on Ebay, there are also coloured LED sidelights for sale. Didn't want to get stuff mixed up.

iv got the cheep whit sidelights that cam with my ocky white H4s i bout in my vrs and has a very cool white with a very slight tinge of blue in them :D

I have Ultra LED bulbs as sidelights on my Rallye and they match the HID dipped beam perfectly.

Not cheap, but probably the best.

Led's need a stable voltage to work properly, exactly 12v. but a cars voltage varies between 10 & 14v. Newer cars that have led's as standard have voltage stability system fitted but older cars like ours don't.

I gave up with eBay LEDS long ago, theyd work for about a month, then intermittently, then fail altogther.

Just use normal Philips now.

On my Corsa the LED's lasted over 2 years.

I've got to say, I've had the free ones given away with any purchase from autobulbsdirect.co.uk in my car and the one before (VW Bora) with no probs at all. Haven't had to replace one so far, and while I've only had my Fabia a few months, no sign of problems at all. Two weeks ago I inadvertently left my sidelights on all day, and they still work fine... The ones in my Fabia give a nice blueish gentle illumination, they don't cast much light outwards but illuminate the lenses fine.
